Seems once you're in and around the setup you'll get first dibs.
Strange considering his seasons offerings, whereas when we were flying a lot of our English contingent barely got a sniff.

I still say that if he'd had Tarky & Mee in front of him then he'd have been a better keeper

Common sense from an England perspective. There isn't really anyone else available and not many would be particularly thankful for a last minute call-up to be third choice for a friendly anyway. Give your under 21 goalie the experience.

I'd like to see him with 4 quality experienced defenders in front of him.

If true that should boost his confidence. Thrown in the deep end far too soon, without a life belt by VK.

In the unlikely event that he got on, guess it would cost us a few million in add ons to City.

Maybe, just maybe, those who have worked closely with him believe in him and are willing to overlook a tough first season in the Prem to give him a chance to be around the senior squad.
What a fantastic opportunity for a young Burnley footballer.

The U21s have a qualifier on Tuesday night playing at Bolton .. seems a strange move to take him out of a qualifier to sit on the bench

I read this earlier this week, an argument that he may be going to the Euros this summer - for the experience

It’d give u21’s chance to look at another keeper as Traff is 21 now and also gives him experience of senior squad.

It basically underlines what a top prospect we have on our hands regardless of how this season has panned out and, if nothing else, helps add value to an important asset.

They are merely filling up a slot in the seniors at short notice with a lad from the juniors. It is normal practice
Re: James Trafford England call up
Clearly and unsurprisingly, your first and primary thought was to question his selection without any reference to being pleased about it.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 8:08 pmWhen have I said that I'm not? Great opportunity for JT. I just said I think the England selection process is strange.

For those of you who hate Trafford, think of this as a positive…. And if you can’t feel positive FOR him, then take solace from the fact that GS has increased his value simply by having him in the squad.
Win, win right?
Sorted.
You’re welcome.
And well done JT, a nice end to a difficult season.

Great for Traff let's hope he gets on
As long as he doesn't replace Aro I don't mind
It shows with Southgate if your face fits your are in.Tarks is an example of a great cb who for some reason gets ignored

Wonder if an England cap is an add on in his contract? Could it cost us a few quid? Always great to see a Claret in an England shirt.

Well done, Traff, big moment for him and only helps us really.
And re other choices, who actually is there? Steele? What's the point? Makes sense if a position becomes available to give the U21 first choice experience with the senior squad.

Or the flip side it demonstrates just how short England are in the goalkeeping department.

Makes you wonder what Muric has done to p1ss Southgate off so much.

Re: James Trafford England call up
They have a slot to fill on the bench in the seniors. So they just take one up from the juniors. So they gain experience around a first team squad. Its not that difficult to understand and very common in football
Not a big deal
Great for his experience and great to have a Claret in the national team.... just as long as this nice opportunity does not push him ahead of Muric again. That is the main thing for the success of our club

Re: James Trafford England call up
Probably scarcity in the position and some familiarity with prior involvement in the England U21 setup.
Certainly not merit.
Butland is flying (albeit) north of the border - come tournament time if we had an injury to Pickford + another I'd prefer Butland sat on the bench rather than Trafford.
Just my opinion.

Re: James Trafford England call up
Congratulations to him. It certainly won't do him any harm.
As poor as he's been this season, I've said all along that I think he could be sold this summer to a Premier League club should we go down and I always thought it wouldn't be long before he was in the full England squad whilst Southgate was in charge. Southgate does tend to promote from within (the u21 set up). A bit like Connor Gallagher - not really up to it at that level but being given plenty of opportunities to step up. Also, I think Trafford has a good reputation within the game and seems well rated....just not entirely by the fan base that watch him every week.
