Not really. It's called capitalism. You may be someone who puts his hard earned cash into a non-profit organisation and doesn't expect any returns or interest but most people expect a return on their investment and this is what happened to the privatised utility companies. If you take time to read who the investors are you'll discover they are mostly pension funds who are skilled at investing in companies that have a steady stream of revenue. The fact that insufficient money has been reinvested is down to the human trait of greed. It has though, killed the golden goose.
