Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
No point watching Premier league football as a burnley fan. The refereeing is clearly biased toward the big clubs. Neither of those would be bookings for Chelsea. It's a scandalous decision.
I'm close to bing done with football now. Its so clearly rigged against smaller teams and the introduction of FFP if anything has reinforced that. It's now impossible for us to even hope to compete with the top clubs, we would just get a points deduction if we tried.

I've never truly believed that there's any sort of agenda to get us out of the league, but my god this season I'm having a hard time truly believing that there isn't anymore...

Anyway, let's hope that feisty so and so Cucurella gets himself sent off too
Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
It really is completely pointless. Not a chance we get that decision. This league is dog shite plain and simple.

Absolutely stunned at that penalty decision. Didn't even appear to be anyone asking for it, you could tell from the reaction of all the players it was an complete nothing of a challenge

Naivity can be a good thing. Trust me, I mean it as a compliment.
There clearly is, at minimum, a subconscious bias.

Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
If England consistently gives penalties for that ( and a yellow ) every game he refs will end up with at least half a dozen pens each side & it would end up 8 a side.
He's a bloody awful referee.
Shocking!

Surely the club have got to make an official complaint now to the Premier League.
We’re going out of the league anyway, let’s see the club have some balls to say what we’re all thinking.

EVEN if the penalty stands (which it shouldn't have), how the hell is that a second bookable offence?

It's a soft penalty at best, but the fact he couldn't wait to then send him off tells you all you need to know about big club bias.SouthamptonClaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 3:51 pmAbsolutely stunned at that penalty decision. Comms on stream I am watching cannot believe what has happened. Obviously game over. Is Foster ok ? He just looks out of it as does Amdouni. Muric outstanding again.

Doesn't matter about the penalty we'll get a 'sorry' letter and it'll all be forgotten!
Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
So it took them 4 minutes to decide it wasn’t a clear and obvious error
Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
I don't even think the first was a yellow, it'd be a harsh yellow putting both together let alone a red for two yellowsCoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 3:53 pmEVEN if the penalty stands (which it shouldn't have), how the hell is that a second bookable offence?

Neither of Assignon's were bookings. The second one is outrageous and beyond belief.

Embarrassing officiating.
Not only is it not a penalty, but it's clearly not a yellow.
It's more frustrating because we were doing well and competing well and now they have killed the game.

Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
Sadly, it's essentially the narrative. The world expects Chelsea to win. The ref gives decsions based on the expectation. The papers, the TV channels want it and pursue it. Objectively or not, the refs fall into the trap. We watched it for a decade.
I've said it man times, VAR just gives 2 goes at giving the big clubs their decision.
We have been done over today. We got a little lucky for a couple of games but normal VAR service has resumed. Laughable.

It is about time that an investigative journalist took a look at the bizarre decisions being made by corrupt Officials in the so-called Premier League. Although no action would be taken when corruption would inevitably be discovered, it would at least give us peace of mind.

Sky Sports Score Centre App describing Assignon having 'hauled' down Mudryk.
Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
I'm less frustrated with the penalty than I am the second yellow. Firstly their player slows down and stops infront of Assignon. Then there is absolutely minimal contact because he's effectively "brake-checked" him. The first yellow was harsh, the second is a joke. Ref needs his bank accounts inspecting.

Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
This supporting the on field decision rule is ridiculous
Easier to give a pen for a big club especially at home so the ref gives a pen
Easier not to give a pen for a small team especially away from home so the ref wouldn’t give a pen
VAR supports the inequality

It's genuinely insane how much money is in this game and how many eyeballs are on it and you get a useless c*nt like Darren England paid handsomely to officiate the game.
Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
The biggest thing they get away with is the obvious dodgy yellow cards they give to smaller clubs. It gives them an easy opportunity to give second yellows later on in the game. I use to think it was just incompetence but not anymore, it happens too often.
Assignon himself has had about 4 very harsh bookings himself since joining.

Mark Halsey spoke about corruption in the premier league and how he was told to say he 'missed' incidents but now with VAR it's easier than ever to be corrupt because 'it wasn't clear and obvious' andMT03ALG wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 3:56 pmIt is about time that an investigative journalist took a look at the bizarre decisions being made by corrupt Officials in the so-called Premier League. Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
I've asked this all along, but what is the point of VAR?
I keep hearing that they don't want to re-referee games but tomorrow an identical situation will see it checked and no penalty given.
Technology should be implemented to give consistency in decisions but all it does is rubber stamp poor refereeing, I think refereeing has been worse since VAR was introduced.
There's no way in the City vs Arsenal game tomorrow that that is given as a penalty, by either the onfield ref or VAR but that will be because of the enormity of the game, there's no jeopardy in a penalty against little old Burnley.

Oh well another disappointing decision and I guess that will be that....!
Ultimately, if you get the wrong side of players in the box of the quality, both footballing and theatrical, of Mudryk then you give referees a decision to make. And giving referees decisions to make in the box is a game of Russian roulette.

It's rare that I lose my rag but f*ck me
I'm f*cking furious at that, not a penalty and definitely not a yellow anywhere on the pitch and nevermind in the box, absolutely f*cking disgusting
The ref even f*cked up one of the most deliberate handball you'll see for a goal and had to rely on VAR to help him out. F*cking useless f*cking tw@t

Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
Say what you will about the "umpire's call" approach in cricket, at least it's clearly defined. I don't know if VAR can even overturn a yellow, clearly Assignon wasn't sure either. A first half red card is much more significant than a penalty (not that I'm on board with that either). We seem to have this ridiculous system of flags not going up straight away, how about refs not dipping into their filofaxes so impulsively?

The Premier league isn’t a football league any more it’s like Ancient Rome… the peons ritually brought out for the slaughter to the glory in the amphitheatres of the Premier league empire.
Re: Clarets vs Chelsea Match Thread
Can VAR despite it not being 'clear and obvious' not just recommend the referee reviews it to check he's still happy with his original decision when it's a penalty and a man down?
