Re: Heads up for those going tonight
We had been searched at the CF end of the UpLo for 3 games but they were for Bournemouth or Brentford.
I thought they had seen sense.

My view is that if it's used as a derogatory description of travellers then it is a racist term

Those coming on M65, turn off at junction 10 and not junction 9, roadworks at bottom of Rossendale Road traffic lights at Accrington Road causing long traffic queues.
Re: Heads up for those going tonight
Don’t know where we Burnley fans get a reputation for being a bunch of knuckle-dragging shite-spewing racist morons from.

So he can't call them pikeys but you feel its OK to call him a knuckle dragging moron for one misguided comment, what a weird world we live in

Why are they adding more checks? Nothings happened to make it necessary has it?

Re: Heads up for those going tonight
Yep it's part of a wider debate really but for me with the amount of nuisance it's likely to cause its really not worth it.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 6:13 pmSure, but the moment something did happen, they'd be dragged over the coals for not searching. You can't win as an event organiser
And from what I've seen from other checks like this, I could probably walk in with an AK47 in a bag and they'd somehow miss it anyway whilst they were telling someone to chuck his plastic bottle away

I got stuck in that took ages coming from Accrington/Harwood.claretburns wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 5:16 pmThose coming on M65, turn off at junction 10 and not junction 9, roadworks at bottom of Rossendale Road traffic lights at Accrington Road causing long traffic queues.
What work are they doing? There constantly seems to be roadworks on that stretch.

Burnley Express reported a new housing estate is being built in Hapton so the works being done now are gas and electric works for the new houses.TommyPicks wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 6:37 pmI got stuck in that took ages coming from Accrington/Harwood.

Reported it is hoped to be completed by 7th June.

The traffic getting to and from the ground is ridiculous
It’s taken us 50mins to get to Brierfield.

Re: Heads up for those going tonight
To be honest the quality of the searches every game is scandalously futile. The stewards have no idea how to search and it is a pointless exercise. They’d be better off just taking random samples of supporters and searching them properly.

Agree 100%. They asked to look in my wife’s rucksack, she unzipped it, they saw her bobble hat at the top, didn’t look further in it and said “okay” and put a sticker on it. Re: Heads up for those going tonight
I am an EU citizen and here in France, it is not a derogatory term. The correct term for a gypsy is gitane, hence the term thieving git.pushpinpussy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 5:12 pmMy view is that if it's used as a derogatory description of travellers then it is a racist term

Re: Heads up for those going tonight
The most accepted etymology of the word “git” is that it is an alteration word from the word “get” dating back to the 14th century. It is a shortening of the word “beget” and the word “get” insinuates that the recipient is someone’s misbegotten offspring, I.e. a *******. In parts of Northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland “get” is still used in preference to “git”, as in “you stupid get”.

Re: Heads up for those going tonight
I went in at the Janes Hargreaves far right hand turnstile at about 7:15 on Tuesday night. A steward had his back to the wall and was giving me a really intense Paddington bear hard stare. I stopped and awkwardly looked back. This went on for about 2 minutes then he looked away and I then went through the turnstile.
