I've not seen this lad play. I just googled him and what I wrote is what came up on Transfermarkt.

Re: Shurandy Sambo
Got to be honest, I've not seen much from Assignon that makes me think he's much if any better in either defence or attack than Vitinho. I didn't think there was much between Vitinho and Roberts last season, and I do think Vitinho has more scope to develop into a better player. He passes the ball better and is quicker than Roberts. And as I say, I was impressed by Vitinho defensively on Tuesday - I think he's improved a lot in those basics.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 9:24 pmNot doing at all badly, but I'd take Assignon and even Roberts to be ahead of him as specialised RBs
I'd hope that we sell Roberts and have Assignon and Sambo as RBs next season.
Vitinho will be a regular in the 1st team squad next season, at RM.

But both Vinny an I rate Assignon a better right back than Vitinho and Roberts

Even if that is correct it is moot because we're not spending £8m on Assignon if we go down.

TBF, how many Championship clubs spend £8m on a full back?claretspice wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 10:21 pmEven if that is correct it is moot because we're not spending £8m on Assignon if we go down.
And it's very unlikely that Assignon would want to play 2nd tier football regardless of whether we would stump up that sort of fee.

Football really is all about opinions isn't it, and it's interesting how people can see things so differently.
For what it's worth, I'm not convinced with Vitinho at right back and I'm including at Championship level. Granted it was a year ago and he may have developed, but Roberts showed he was much better at understanding the role than Vitinho was. That statement though relies on the assumption Kompany will want his right back to play similarly to how they did last season ie often tucking in to make a back three. He could flip it and make the left back invert, asking them to have a similar role Maatsen had on the other side. In that case, Vitinho could be useful because has the legs but not particularly the discipline or instinct. But hey, it's all a lot of guesswork admittedly.

9 league appearances for a team walking the league this season, can’t be too shabby. Mostly played for their “Jong PSV” who play in the league below.
Like many I read this as Sambo starting, Roberts sold and Vitinho continuing to fill in everywhere/challenge Sambo.

Re: Shurandy Sambo
Yes agree, still time for him to bring that to the table, just think he needs to compose himself when attempting the final pass or cross. But still one of our most improved players this season, and there could well be other's looking at him thinking that they could just add that final piece when coaching him.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 4:15 pmHis final ball is often terrible....I think he gets over excited, such a shame. If he could cross or make an incisive final pass he'd be a diamond.
Re: Shurandy Sambo
I still miss his big curlers down the line which 9 times out 10 he'd curl out of play before even reaching the half way line.

No doubt he’s improved and can’t question his work rate but he’s not a defender and his use of the ball is ordinary at best.

Re: Shurandy Sambo
His passing to prompt moves is good and his pass accuracy is general very good, especially as he's not someone who can generally be accused of playing safe. His final ball is hit and miss but that's a slightly different point (and will improve with game time snd confidence)Alan Young wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 11:35 amI’ll accept he’s quicker but passes the ball better?!

I actually think there's a good player in Vitinho, I've read on here plenty of times that he can't cross, pass, or take on a man- but I've seen him do all of those things. However he's just inconsistent with it. If anything at times he seems like a player that is better with very little space than when he's got a lot infront of him. But I think that's more of a consistency/composure point and I think he'll improve in that. I think he fits the system well too, he carries the ball inside or down the line well and his movement is superb.

1. Defend.
2. Give the ball to Glen Little.
3. Run up and down the wing all day long acting as a decoy while Little did the fancy work.
Ideal player for the job.

He nearly costs us a goal with a wayward square or backwards pass that takes the whole team out of the game pretty much every game.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 12:00 pmHis passing to prompt moves is good and his pass accuracy is general very good, especially as he's not someone who can generally be accused of playing safe. Re: Shurandy Sambo
In what way?
Re: Shurandy Sambo
Bonkers that people are praising Vitinho's passing. Pace, stamina and graft we cannot grumble about but his passing is way off.
Re: Shurandy Sambo
That's not supported by the stats though.
He actually attempts a lot of passes and his pass accuracy is not considerably worse than anyone else, it's better than some and worse than others.
I would agree with you that he gives the odd very sloppy pass away, and when he does so he's generally not under pressure and it can be in a dangerous area- but that's a completely different thing to his "passing" being way off. Which is the point that has been made.
People have it in for him though so when he gives a couple of dodgy ones away they forget the other 8 that came off.
As I've said above he needs to work on consistency/composure and eliminating those errors, but in terms of carrying the ball and his use of it it's no where near as bad as people make out. Just to further illustrate that point he's got a better pass accuracy than Odobert for example.

Re: Shurandy Sambo
That has been an issue at times I agree but that's been part of his learning curve. I don't think it's especially been a feature in the last 3 months and in any event we have to accept that the odd pass will go astray if we play the way Kompany wants us to play. That hasn't been unique to to Vitinho.

You can’t have watched much of Burnley over the last 3 months if that’s your opinion (or certainly not watched close enough). His passing is often sloppy and I can’t remember a game he’s played where he hasn’t put the team in trouble with a poor pass.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 2:16 pmI don't think it's especially been a feature in the last 3 months

Re: Shurandy Sambo
If it was only Vitinho with the misplaced passing I could maybe understand what sometimes seems like an agenda by some on here, but it isn't just him is it.
Vitinho in full flow can have you on the edge of your seat and I for one can forgive the odd misplaced pass.

That's not how it works. Players, agents and clubs will have moves sorted way before they can be "officially" announced to the mere punters and plebs.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 6:08 pmWe might have agreed a deal, but nothing can be completed outside of a transfer window.

I'm sure that's right. It's only two or three years back that Leicester signed someone 14 seconds after the Summer window closed, if I remember rightly. They had to pay him for 4 months until he could be registered.

Re: Welcome Sambo?
Our signing of Samba is different though as it is a pre-contract agreement.
He will remain a PSV player until his contract expires on 30th June 2024 and then the pre-agreed contract with us will kick in from 1st July 2024.

I'm guessing there's been a couple of occasions but I always brace myself for him shanking it behind for a goal kick whenever he gets in a good position.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 12:00 pmHis passing to prompt moves is good and his pass accuracy is general very good, especially as he's not someone who can generally be accused of playing safe.
