Let's have it!!

Got a good feeling about this. But it's the hope that kills you.

Feel for Vitinho but best X1 for me.
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
That's a very attacking team away from home

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Bring it on. This is THE season defining game.
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Disappointed with the line up.
Foster is a not a right winger and Odebert is not an AMC. I also think Vitinho has been one of the stand out performers in recent weeks and is unlucky to drop out.

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Foster AND Fofana was a commendable experiment which nobody really thought worked on Tuesday. I've no problem with the rest of the team bearing in mind availability, but Benson (or Vitihno in a genuine winger role) for Foster would have made more sense (Maybe?)

Think Vitinho might just have been rotated. He's done a huge amount of work in the last 7 days.

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Maybe we’ll see Odobert out wide and Foster through the middle this time . We’ll have to wait and see.
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Really surprised with Vitinho on the bench
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Quite possibly. The rest is just frustrating really though, we're in April and still playing square pegs in round holes. Kompany hasn't found the right side all year.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 2:09 pmThink Vitinho might just have been rotated. He's dome a huge amount of work in the last 7 days.

No Trafford on bench. Must have a bad illness. Possibly Benchitus ?

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Fofana / Foster did not work v Wolves so why go for it again when away
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
No way is Foster winger. 100% I would prefer Benson Or Vitinho wide right
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Would not be surprised if he has been given some time off for a break - he deserves it
Left out to dry by VK when he clearly wasn't up to this standard and it would have been hurtful to read all the criticism that came his way from the fans
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
I think you could argue that Odobert is a bit of a square peg in the number 10 spot at the moment. He could well transition into a number 10 but I see him as a better fit out wide currently. That being said you could make the same argument (I.E not being quite suited to the position) for the majority of players we've tried there, be it Amdouni, Brownhill or whoever.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 2:15 pmThere's only one real square peg in a round hole and that's Foster.
I'd have liked to see Odobert up against Coleman today though, so maybe I'd have moved Odobert out left, Vitinho or JBL out right and maybe I'd have added Brownhill to the middle with one of Foster or Fofana up top.

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
It’s very gracious of us to nullify our biggest threat by playing Foster from the right, if indeed that’s what we’re doing again.
Kompany has a habit of not learning lessons until it’s too late this season but surely he could see on Tuesday that Foster is absolutely not a wide right.

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Well, without thinking its the right set up, I can think of two obvious reasons:
- they've had 2 extra days to work on it in training;
- it adds physicality to the team.
The other point is that Fofana had a poor game on Tuesday, and can play better, so perhaps Tuesday wasn't a fair comparison. It's also possible he'll juggle the formation (even if he wants to play Odobert as a 10, I'd prefer to see Foster wide left and JBL on the right).
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
That makes sense
Pity it's been lacking from the manager's lineups this season

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
I see that argument (and one reason I'd play Foster on the left if that is the choice is to have a go against Coleman as you suggest), but personally I think Odobert has done OK at 10 and it does suit the team better defensively.boyyanno wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 2:24 pmI think you could argue that Odobert is a bit of a square peg in the number 10 spot at the moment. Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Odobert would rip holes in Coleman. Not sure manager sees that.

We'll see how they actually line up.

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Dyche will love putting one of the las nails in our coffin. Can’t blame him to be honest although I would love it if we can put even more pressure on Dyche and more importantly Everton. Let’s see if we can deal with Tarks on the end of Dwight’s crosses
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
He's probably the best option there at the moment but I think it depends what you want from your 10- Personally I like to see more of a technician in that slot who picks out good/key passes and uses the ball well. If I'm honest I don't think that suits any of the options we have and that's part of our problem.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 2:29 pmI see that argument (and one reason I'd play Foster on the left if that is the choice is to have a go against Coleman as you suggest), but personally I think Odobert has done OK at 10 and it does suit the team better defensively.
One thing I would say is that because of the way Dyche lines up across the pitch I always felt players like Odobert who could take a man on and beat the lines in the centre of the park were very dangerous against us, so it could work in our favour.

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Suspect Vitineo is not playing because of the height advantage Everton have.
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Perhaps beating us three times in a season might end the Dyche love in at last , and also the pub can go back to its old name again ending that particular continuing source of embarrassment.
Silver linings, should it happen...

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Exactly this
Just because the graphics have it as Foster wide and Odobert central, that doesn’t mean that’s how they will line up
They just place them as a “best guess” based on previous. Doesn’t mean it’s going to be like that

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
To me, that looks like a variable 4-2-2-2, morphing into 4-4-2.
Don't see why you would give up on Fofana and Foster after 1 game. Just looked they were playing in each other's boots against Wolves. Today they will be better as a pair. Might even play better away from home with more space around them. I'm sure Odobert will be wide left at times during the game especially if he's given service that plays him wide. The rest of the team pretty much picks itself. Vitinho will get minutes during the game. Game on. I think we'll give them a good game. Let's see how it goes. COYC

Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
Glad he’s gone for an attacking line up as there is no point blocking out for a draw today. The pre match stats show that Everton have a long run of failing to win after conceding the first goal.
Also if we don’t beat Everton and Forest there really is very little chance of reeling either of them in.
I would have liked to have seen Vitinho and Benson involved but maybe defending set pieces is a consideration in team selection.

I'm not embarrassed by it. Most reasonable people understand what Dyche did for our club.

Fofana would be on the bench for me.
Vitinho out wide and Foster down the middle.

Muric doing exactly what Trafford should be doing from corners, pushing the attackers away from him
Re: Toffees vs Clarets Match Thread
O'Shea intercepts. Half an hour later, Calverton Lewin trips over his leg and gets fk!!!!

God Muric is a joy to watch with the ball. What VK (and some on here) was thinking I'll never know.
