My wife just found this underneath her car (Peugeot Partner)
Heavy, metal, finished at one end, oily smell.
What is it?

Like bean tins, paint tins should be stored upside down so that you don't get a skin on the top (Dulux recommend this).Vincent'sCap wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 12:44 pmMy wife has just “caught” me vacuuming the garage floor. Quote: “no other man would vacuum his garage floor”. Please prove her wrong

Indeed he would have the same set of clothes so he doesn't have to think about what he has to wear each day - a sort of uniform if you like. In that way he can spend more time on other dull matters.
Mind you, I'm a pretty exciting fellow. I have a list in my kitchen for monthly activities in my flat, like cleaning kettle and washing machine, testing smoke alarm, moving various taps so they don't freeze up etc.. I'm not dull at all.
Re: Dull man's club.
I always keep my receipts for petrol for 2 reasons, first reason is if anything that goes wrong with my car that might be down to faulty petrol I can take it back to the petrol station and demand compensation, I've been driving for 42 years but haven't had to complain yet so it works, secondly I have a very large map of the UK in my garage and I pin the receipts to the town where I bought my petrol, it's fascinating to see the geographical spread of where you have either topped up or indeed filled up. There are numerous ones in Burnley so when the six inch nail that I use to push the receipts onto to keep them in place is full these are transferred to a box and the number counted and recorded on my spreadsheet.
There are quite a few from Scotland, (business ones had a blue tick on them so I didn't get confused whilst whiling away the hours looking at the map. There are a few from Cornwall but not many ( 5) business related, Yorkshire and Lancashire are heavily represented as would be expected .Yorkshire is mainly represented around the Leeds area ,I think the notorious one way system in Leeds contributed to my average UMPG dropping to an average of 26 across a range of 7 cars varying from the Mondeo to Vauxhall Vectra, colours grey. Wales is a bit hit and miss TBH so much so that I use a one inch panel pin to pin the receipts to in the most visited area which isn't the tourist areas of the North but mainly Cardiff.
I did start another map for motoring consumables such as bulbs, oils, air fresheners, gloves, de-icer, scraper, screen wash, coolant and brake fluids etc. However the stress brought me out in a rash and I was prescribed beta blockers and other medication to calm me down so I replaced the map with a montage of wall paper samples from B&Q for future reference.

Something I’ve noticed whilst looking for an extension lead
Why do they all have the cord coming out of the unit from the right?
When the socket it is being plugged into is located to the left it looks untied when the lead is having to be “doubled back”

I bought six identical pairs thinking just that but it hasn't proved successful: As some pairs have been worn and washed more than others those have faded more than others, as a result I now have 12 socks in six slightly differing shades, the pairing-up of which is more difficult/time consuming than if the socks had been in six different colours/styles

I retired a while back and like a lot of other people , started to complain and get angry at the amount of litter on the streets and also angry about how people were parking their cars.
So, in an effort to take my mind off these and other important stuff, I decided to take up astronomy, but as we all know it's been raining for 9 months and I wear glasses.
Stamp collecting sounds fun but where do you start ? British or Foreign? Pre decimal or post ? I've been trying to find a local stamp collectors club but to no avail. I thought about going to the post office for advice.

Add a splash of ketchup to the second serving. It will be better than the first.cblantfanclub wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 1:05 pmRowls I have had the same problem with beans as you appear to have.
First is this with large or small cans?
I have little experience of small cans but it's certainly a problem with large ones. If you decide to only eat half a large can and save half then as you have obviously found out sauce viscosity becomes a major problem as it radically changes as you go down the tin.
You end up with over sauced beans with your first meal and under sauced beans with your second because of the higher sauce viscosity at the bottom of the tin.
I have tried your solution, marking up the tins to note the period of inversion from 1 to 6 weeks yet still have had a viscosity problem.
To help with my research I would ask do you shake prior to inversion and if so for how long and do you have any tips. My experience is only with Heinz beans but a solution would help obtain two satisfactory meals out of a tin instead of two slightly compromised ones.
Hope this isn't too interesting.

Re: Dull man's club.
Your post reminded me of something that has long troubled.
Why do wall sockets always have the earth socket on top when the cable comes out the bottom of the plug. It is most frustrating to be 3” short of reach when many electrical items aren’t used at floor level.
I’d reverse all my wall sockets but I’m far too lazy.
Re: Dull man's club.
At risk of stating the bleeding obvious, you need to empty the tin, stir the beans, and put half of them back into the tin. Thus ensuring consistently consistent consistency.cblantfanclub wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 1:05 pmRowls I have had the same problem with beans as you appear to have.

Counting the beans is, of course, optional. It depends how concerned you are that the tin should be split exactly in half, or whether you follow the modern, sloppy trend of "near enough". (Surely you wouldn't.)

Collecting foreign would be far too interesting for a thread like this,so I'd recommend that you pick a commonwealth country - preferably one that doesn't exist any more so that you don't need to worry about getting new issues. Try aden, newfoundland or zanzibar.
You might also like to collect postmark of different towns in that country, or Postcards, but Postcards of those three countries would be outside the scope of this thread. If outside Lancashire, try collecting "Postcards of burnley" otherwise just pick a random place like "Postcards of Walsall 1925-1938". You could later branch out with "the postal history of Walsall 1925-1938", which would be every bit as interesting to everyone at the club but with no pictures.

I always keep my lawn weed free and have been using "Verdone" the lawn weedkiller for donkeys years. It's a growth hormone that doesn't affect grass so weeds just outgrow themselves and die. However I noticed that there were some weeds that seem to have developed a resistance and it required a second, more concentrated dose to kill the little blighters. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Dull man's club.
Would it be remiss of me to mention that I ventured into the attic to recover an old atlas (I knew it would come in handy one day, so I'm overjoyed that I decided not to recycle it). Anyway, enough of such distractions, I spent some time examining the old atlas and then compared it to a newer version, and am able to confirm that Aden, Newfoundland and Zanzibar still exist, but now they have different names. I considered quoting the current names but couldn't really decide whether to or not, so as a compromise decided on just the one - Zanzibar is now part of Tanzania.timshorts wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 7:58 amThere's a stamp club in Burnley that meets at the Central methodist church twice a month, but you might not be in Burnley of course.

I hope you don't mind that I have capitalised the names of the former countries, but the absence of capital letters for country names is one of my pet hates.
