POLL: If we were a Premier League Club - question about playing a game abroad…
Very hypothetical, as we’re already all but relegated. However, if we were to return to the top flight at some point and with news of the ‘39th Game’ starting to resurface, please consider the question below.
Would you be okay with BFC playing a HOME game in the USA, if it made £20,000,000 for the club and potentially got us more publicity and even a new fanbase from over the pond?

I might possibly consider it if we were the only club to get the chance and we were the only club to get the £20m. If all clubs do it and all get the £20m, then it just increases player wages and ruins the game of football yet further.

Anything like that needs continued opposition from supporters

I think even for the people who imagine our club can meaningfully increase its revenue abroad via Pace and JJ Watt, a 39th game abroad should be seen as a leveller in that field and not an opportunity.

Agree. Apparently, Barcelona and Girona had been asked to play a game in Miami (I think). UEFA quashed it, saying that it was in their rulings that a national league within the organisation were not permitted to play outside of the country. That apparently has been taken to court and the ruling thrown out. It’s concerning (in my opinion) that our game could just get lifted into another nation for a week or so. Yet, I know several people who tap into the NFL when it lands in our shores. You could argue that the setup of such a franchise is very different though.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 1:31 pmAnything like that needs continued opposition from supporters

No but the club is based in Burnley and that's where we should be playing our home games.Oshkoshclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 1:38 pmAre the only valid supporters ones that live in the UK?

I wouldn't mind too be honest.
As long as kick off time was between 9am and 10pm uk time for TV coverage.
The club planned early enough for UK supporters to go and had club official travel. Maybe at subsidised cost.

Nope.... the continued franchising of sports, does nothing for me. I only attended a couple of Lancashire games per season, but that's stopped now with the Manchester Monster Munch hundred nonsense.
There's a big wide world of exciting things out there, if I don't find that the activity aligns with core beliefs I have, then I move on and find the next thing that does.

I'd like to see one home game and one away game played abroad each season. Football has come on leaps and bounds over the last 30 years but we can't stand still and need to keep innovating and expanding the brand.
This idea would be a good start and would love to see competitive Premier League football played in places like New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Wyoming.

Currently this is prevented by FIFA statutes, which have been repeatedly challenged by football promoter Relevent through a series of court cases in the US spanning the last 5 years and which are still ongoing. Critically FIFA has been a co-defendant with the MLS in all these cases - now following an out pf court agreement FIFA have agreed to no longer be a co-defendant and abide by the final outcome

However we have finally seen a change - it appears from an out of court agreement that FIFA have been persuaded to consider the rule about in season league games being played in alternative countries that have their own leagues. We can only assume that FIFA now see some $$ signs in this for themselves.

FIFA reaches agreement in lawsuit seeking to allow domestic club games in foreign countries

Just think, 19 home games with £20 million income per game, £380 million per season... but, still not much more than half the revenue of City.
What does the away team get for playing in USA? I'd assume that would also need to be £20 million per game. (Remember, "£20 [million] is plenty").

Probably the same way that I would if I was personally offered £20m for BFC to play a league game abroad.
