O'Shea suspended?
I'm hearing rumours that we appealed the red card.
Will we know before 2pm Saturday if he can play?

I can't see how they will over rule that one - it's harsh but it ticks enough boxes for it to uphold the decision for me

Re: O'Shea suspended?
If it's true he was carded for dogsa, then that is clearly wrong. The ball is collected by muric 30 yards away about a second after the foul. I also don't think the foul is particularly dangerous. Yellow card definitely but not red for me.

Re: O'Shea suspended?
If it's for dogso, it's a one match ban. (Denial of a goal scoring opportunity)
What if we appeal that and instead they judge it to be a dangerous tackle and give him a 3 match ban instead?
(Can they do that?)
Personally I think there's no chance of it being overturned on either count so dogso and a one match ban would be a good outcome.

Denial of a goalscoring opportunity?
Nonsense Dwight was 45yrds from goal he'd have tripped over his feet before reaching the goal
Yellow yes for a blunder by Dara but never red

Re: O'Shea suspended?
Im glad we’re appealing it, the tackle is only worthy of a yellow imo.

Re: O'Shea suspended?
It would mean overruling the referee and that definitely ain't going to happen, especially when it's somewhat a "judgemental" decision which some would see one way and others would see differently.

Referred to every week by Dermot Gallagher but it's a term used by PGMOL.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 2:00 pmLiterally the first time Ive heard the term Dogso, had to google it.

It was a horrendous challenge that deserved a sending off. He could have broken the bloke's leg.

He should be suspended for going into the tackle with the wrong foot.

How come at no point has Oliver declared whether it was for DOGSO or endangering an opponent?
Extremely relevant in terms of the ban.

The match report in the Sunday Times states:
The defender was sent off by the referee, Michael Oliver, who deemed it a goalscoring opportunity.

Re: O'Shea suspended?
It was suggested in the ESPN VAR review on Monday, which is written with input from PGMOL, that we were likely to appeal and the article stated the VAR should have told Oliver to downgrade it to a yellow, which implies PGMOL would be sympathetic to an appeal. It also stated it was for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
Our disciplinary record this season is lamentable but there's no question we've been very unfortunate with the last two of them.

He will have done so in his report. But Dermot Gallagher, who represents PGMOL, said it was DOGSO.dougcollins wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 8:27 pmHow come at no point has Oliver declared whether it was for DOGSO or endangering an opponent?

It seems like a no brainer. It's a factually incorrect decision, there's surely nothing they could do but overturn it.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 9:31 pmCan only be if we appeal but we haven’t suggested that we have

Re: O'Shea suspended?
Probably the appropriate time to do my usual thing and remind us that the VAR was from Nottingham, and it is one of their clubs we are trying to catch. It was obvious in real time watching it on US TV that Muric, already 30 yards outside his goal, would be there first, and I out that on the match thread at the time. It simply had to be obvious to Coote.
(I wouldn’t keep rattling on about refs from, or who support, Liverpool, Nottingham or Luton clubs, if we hadn’t been stiffed about 10 times by them this season, which is way, way too many to be a coincidence)

Always thought Attwell, who is from Nuneaton, was a Coventry fan. Coote is definitely a Notts County fan.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 9:40 pmProbably the appropriate time to do my usual thing and remind us that the VAR was from Nottingham, and it is one of their clubs we are trying to catch. PGMOL are very careful with this stuff though.

Re: O'Shea suspended?
If you think people have been receiving bribes to see that Burnley get relegated, then perhaps you ought to look at the players first?
There are Sheffield United fans who have the same idea - that the league is conspiring to send them down. Seriously. It seems obvious to me that if the league want Burnley and Sheffield United to get relegated, all they have to do is sit back and enjoy the show. No point risking their jobs and reputation by rigging it so that we are the worst sides in the division; we have managed that for ourselves.

Re: O'Shea suspended?
The DOGSO rule isn't about whether the player would score, it looks at the number of defenders between the incident and a direct path to goal, if it is just the keeper then it is a DOGSO and thus worthy of a straight red. It doesn't matter that the keeper would reach the ball 1st, or another defender has red hot pace, nor that the attacker may run like they have concrete boots on, the positioning at the time of the incident is what is interpreted.
Re: O'Shea suspended?
They don't look at the relative skills or speed of the players, that's right. But they certainly do look at the position of the ball. If the forward isn't going to reach the ball, or if he is going to reach the ball but it's by the corner flag, then it isn't (in theory if not in practice!) a goalscoring opportunity and hence not a red card.bfcmik wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 2:43 pmThe DOGSO rule isn't about whether the player would score, it looks at the number of defenders between the incident and a direct path to goal, if it is just the keeper then it is a DOGSO and thus worthy of a straight red. Re: O'Shea suspended?
Yes, it is denial of the opportunity to score a goal. that is why they use the direct line from incident to the goal. If you are out wide then the chances that another player wasn't in a position to easily get involved are very slim. I'm not sure that refs aren't advised to take a cone from the posts to the corners of the penalty area to judge whether there was a DoGSO. It isn't denial of an opportunity to set up a teammate.dsr wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 5:08 pmThey don't look at the relative skills or speed of the players, that's right.
