Loan player situations upon relegation (or survival!)

Post by ArmchairDetective » Wed Apr 10, 2024 11:47 am

Just wanting to clarify what we know/feel about the situation with our loan players upon relegation (or survival if you're still optimistic!).

Assignon - understand we can buy if we stay up otherwise he goes back to parent club

Esteve - seem to recall we have an agreement to buy regardless of division, could be wrong? Did Matt Williams comment on this?

Tresor - heard conflicting things on this one. If we've agreed to buy him already can see him being loaned out somewhere for a fee similar to Weghorst situation

JBL - understand we have an agreement to buy? Don't know about how relegation impacts this. Recall a fairly low fee so would like to keep him.

Fofana - understand we've no chance and no agreement?

Anyone have any further info?

My understanding from what I’ve read is as follows:

Esteve and Larsen are to sign permanently because their loans included the obligation to buy.

Tresor has already signed permanently, but there does now appear to some doubt about this, although it seems to stem from the fact he’s been dropped from the first team picture recently.

Assignon and Fofana will return to their clubs.

Out of all of those I’d have only kept only Larsen. The rest we can do better.

Really shocked at that.

I think Esteve has been outstanding and certainly possesses the physical attributes that make me feel he will be a big player for us and able to cope in the Premier League.

AD - Matt Williams did indeed confirm Esteve will sign permanently regardless of division.

Glad to hear that JBL and Esteve look to be signing.

Not overly fussed if we lose the rest, though you'd like to think all three of them would be decent enough to perform well in the Championship. Big money though. We can probably find cheaper hence signing Sambo instead of Assignon.

Esteve can’t turn quick enough for me and he’s not quick enough. Just my opinion of course.

I’m more worried about the numerous players VK has signed and how we might struggle to offload some of them without taking a massive hit on them.

Looking forward to seeing Tresor in the championship, buy accept it's a lot of money for a championship player.

All the rest could go back for me.

All of them would be OK in the championship but I'm not seeing prem players in them for the season after.

theres nothing to say we couldnt sign assignon while in the championship, whether we could afford or if he would want to come is a different story

It was mentioned in numerous places he’d only be available if we weren’t relegated. Like Fofana, he’ll be gone in May.

I think Matt said he'll be here next season no matter which division we are in - that could be a permanent signing or another agreed loan

A couple of weeks ago I’d have been well and truly against Esteve staying but he’s won me around a little. Assignon is no better than what we’ve got. Bruun Larsen I think would be worthwhile if we are not having to break the bank for him although I’d love Zaroury to be back in and give us another season in the Championship on that left side.

Unlike some on here I think Esteve has started well, and will only improve. A year in the Championship will be his making. Lost faith in Al Dakhill after his appearances this year, and Delcroix can be a useful defence stand by/squad player .particularly if Taylor goes. Ekdal can easily play in the Championship maybe alongside Beyer (fitness dependent) or O shea if one is injured . We need 4 centre halves and have them in OShea, Esteve, Ekdal and Delcroix

Matt Williams definitely said that Esteve will be with us again next season regardless of which division we are in.

He didn't say that we will be signing him on a permanent deal though.
