His link up play just before the penalty shout was top class too

Had I give ratings today it would have been a 5 or 6.
If we score three goals from those crosses he's getting 8s and 9s.
I think people get frustrated with his contribution outside of the odd cross. Weak in the challenge, over does things a lot and makes bad decisions.
No doubt he'll improve on the latter two things with experience but his age is irrelevant in terms of criticism.
If he's considered too young he shouldn't be starting every single game.
Then again, Haaland can do absolutely nothing in game except put the ball in the back of the net twice and get 9s every week.
Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
Muric 5 - an 8 for 89 minutes, a striker can miss a sitter but a keeper cannot throw one in
Assignon 6 - energy but out of position often
Ekdal 8 - marshalled Wellbeck extremely well
Estève 8 MOTM - super, pace, height, composure and reasonable passing
Vitinho 5 - inexplicable by VK to play him out of position after two MOTM right wing
Odobert 8 - some wonderful crosses, nearly got a pen, was energetic throughout, and some nice dribbles
Cullen 7 - neat and tidy
Berge 6 - couple of errors unusual for him
Bruun Larsen 6 - OK but faded
Foster 4 - OK first half but moved out of position second half and faded
Fofana 4 - three stinkers on the trot, was a passenger today
Taylor 6 - some woeful crossing
Rodriguez 6 - put himself about but no real chances
Brownhill 7 - showed desire for the goal
Just a gutting performance, strong on the whole, had wobbles where they threatened, got what we just about deserved, and threw it away like Sunday League. Inexplicable selections. Too late substitutes. Inconsistent refereeing. Annoying VAR checks. This league is so frustratting.
Anyway, we can criticise Vinny, but he cannot conjure up missing 2 open goals and a Throw One Inn candidate, Really, it comes down to our players not being quite good enough as a unit.

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
Muric 3 - sone fairly decent but regulation saves, poor distribution and calamitous error 2nd week in a row
Vithino 6 - out of position but no idea why he was hooked over either of the front 2 or jBL
Esteve 8 mom - thought he and ekdal handled Brighton pretty well
Ekdal 8 - see above
Assignon 6 - at times looks good but often a disaster waiting to happen
Odobert 5 - usual - flatters and doesn't deceive - no end product
Berge 7 - steady away
Cullen 7 - decent enough
JBL 4 - no product at all. Shocking miss
Foster 4 - awful
Fifana 4 - why is he starting?
Taylor 6 - did ok
Brownhill 7 - effort and co.mitment - pay attention forwards
Rodriguez 6 - tried to get involved
Yet again we play some really bizarre people I bizarre positions and the subs again are just confusing. This management team don't seem to really know what we are trying to do (or the players dont). Utter dogger going forward again inability game we need 3 points

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
Don't agree. We make schoolboy errors tine and tine aging under no pressure. We continually overplay stuff. We take forever to get the ball forward when breaking the press (which surely is what we invite the press for?) We are nit Man City and he needs to stop thinking we are. Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
First of all, lots of people who seem to can't wait to give Muric a 3. Bit sad IMO.
Of course it was a massive error, but it's like giving a striker who's had a good game missing an open goal a 3 just out of pure spite.
Overall I thought we played ok, there were positives, Esteve and Ekdal very good. Extremely pleased for Ekdal who had been written off by many on here. Looked a top defender today.
Really let down by the front two, I'm not sure I've seen as lazy an effort from two strikers in a long time. It was disgraceful in my view.
Muric 5 - as above, would have been a 7 but for his cock up. People giving him 3's, give your head a wobble
Assignon 6 - Seems to care, but he's still too much of a loose cannon for me
Ekdal 8 - Excellent. Lost count of his defensive wins 1v1
Estève 8 Improving all the time, looks a player now.
Vitinho 5 - They targeted him, rightly hooked, felt sorry for him, not his fault.
Odobert 7 - Mixed bag, end product lacking at times
Cullen 7 - neat and tidy
Berge 6 - Looked off it today
Bruun Larsen 6 - Missed an absolute sitter, shall I give him a 3?
Foster 3 - Disgraceful lack of effort, and any form of skill.
Fofana 3 - Just ****. Don't want to see him in a claret shirt again, he's clearly downed tools.
Taylor 6 - Did ok
Rodriguez 6 - as above
Brownhill 7 - Where has this Brownhill been? Energy and fight. Would give him an extra year if he wants it.
Summed up our season, missed sitters, comical own goal, really poor in the final third.
On a positive note, we looked pretty comfortable against a really good Brighton unit.
As for Brighton, I've always had a dislike for them as a club. Never won anything of note. They are only in the prem because they have a rich chairman. They would be a league 2 side if it wasn't for him. Their fans spent the entire game slagging Burnley off, strange bunch.
Oh and João Pedro is a massive crybaby

Muric 6 - The blip should be -1 (not -3 or -4) imo
Assignon 6- The effort is there at least
Ekdal 7 - good performance after 2 months out
Esteve 8 MoM - Quite commanding today
Vitinho 5 - fine at right back, not left
Odobert 6 - Two wonderful crosses, not much else
Cullen 7- Neat and tidy as usual
Berge 6 Plays well within himself, almost in 2nd gear
Larsen 4 - end product?
Foster 3 Started to imitate Fofana?
Fofana 3 Get shut, lazy beggar with a bad attitude
Taylor 5 - OK defending but poor crossing
Rodriguez 5 - did ok in the time he was on
Brownhill 7 - great close down on goal

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
Muric - 5 We are a stronger unit when he is in goal but just unfortunate to have 2 massive howlers in consecutive Saturdays.
Assignon - 5 Without being nasty I’m glad he will be going back after this season. Don’t like his theatrics and he’s not a great full back.
Ekdal - 7 Obviously not match fit but he had a good game but sometimes got too tight to his player and was turned.
Esteve - 8 His best performance for us. Strong, committed and defended excellently.
Vitinho - 5 Full of heart but a square peg in a round hole in the game.
Odobert - 5 Started well but his performance dropped off and started losing the ball in poor positions.
Cullen - 6 Typical Josh picking up deep and trying to probe but not a lot worked out.
Berge - 5 Not as dynamic and still ponderous in possession. He takes most of the blame for the goal from me. You are taught at a very young age not to pass the ball back between the sticks for exactly the reason that happened.
JBL - 5 Shocking miss and didn’t produce anything of note.
Foster - 4 Lethargic and lackadaisical. Looks unfit and was labouring for most of the second half.
Fofana - 3 He’s young and raw but his running with the ball at feet and when he ACTUALLY passes the ball he looks like Bambi on ice. Selfish, not a team player and actually not very good.
Jay Rod - 5 He obviously loves his hometown club but is not a force at this level anymore. Loved his passion but it’s now time for him to move on.
Brownhill - 6 Added a little spice and we eventually got some luck with his goal.
Taylor - 5 They are obviously being careful with Chas because he must have a niggle. Didn’t get forward as much today but when he did his balls in were woeful.
Slept on it and woke up still shaking my head. The only way we were going to score was the fortunate way that we did. Even after yesterday’s amateurish mess up Muric is still the number 1. I feel more comfortable when crosses come in and more confident that he will save good chances against us. In a must win game, against a side that have a plethora of injuries to first teamers, we lacked intensity and quality to open up the opponents. Apart from the fortunate goal we never tested their keeper and he won’t have many easier games. It’s still a mathematical possibility of staying up but we are so short on all aspects of our game and make inexcusable errors on a game to game basis.

Defensively I thought we looked decent and never really look in danger of conceding until an absolute howler from Muric.
That said I think we were lucky to be 1-0 up in the first place. If they hadn't gifted us a goal we wouldn't have scored.
A draw was probably a fair result in the end. One team looked like it couldn't really be arsed while the other team did but was just low on confidence and short of quality.

Muric 5 - howler but we are better with him in goal than the other option.
Assignon 6 couldn’t fault his effort but he isn’t good enough
Vithinio 4 not a left back but let’s keep trying him there.
Ekdal 8 very good
Esteve 8 looks a good defender
Cullen 6 got around the pitch but the booking nullified his game.
Berge 6 thought he looked a bit off it today.
Oddobert 5 thought he was poor today.
Bruun Larsen 5 as above
Foster 3 woeful not a right winger but let’s keep trying him there.
Forfona 3 dreadful again.
Taylor 4 two passes out of play and another woeful cross into the keepers arms summed him up.
Brownhill 7 brought some energy in the middle.
Jay Rod 6 shame he can’t transfer his passion to the likes of Foster and Forfona.
Another game which sums our season up. Bright approach play no end product and always a mistake away from gifting the opposition a goal. And from the bench another tactically inept effort from Kompany and co in terms of tactics and substitutions. Shame we can’t just forfeit the remaining games.

Could Odobert be physically stronger? Yes.
Could he be more switched on to his defensive duties? Yes.
Is his end product excellent for his age and was it yesterday, particularly in the front half? Absolutely yes.

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
I don't agree with this re distribution. Yesterday as the weather worsened there was a need to play the conditions and stop trying to be so precise and play out a bit more pragmatically, playing to space and to set up duels rather than lofting balls intended to go specifically to a player in a given spot. Quite regularly attempting to be over precise, and the impact of the wind blowing more or less than expected, caused us a problem.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 9:08 amSorry but Foster and especially Fofana for missing an open net (yet again) cost us the point's, the final ball into the box is terrible like all season and that's cost us point's today and all season not Muric

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
What do you want people to give him? You gave him 5 which is below average. I believe a goalkeeper who for a second successive week has potentially cost us points with a catastrophic error cannot be rated at below average.

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
To be fair you could argue the balls out to the full back had a hint of pragmatism to them, in the sense that he was overhitting them which mean they just went out of play. It didn't put us in any danger.claretspice wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 9:29 amI don't agree with this re distribution. This is a ratings thread - people give a rating based on their opinion. There’s been many examples on this board of irrational and agenda based ratings on individual players - this one isn’t one of those examples. Most of the people who rated Muric lowly are the same ones who were calling for him to be picked ahead of Trafford.

No but it killed our momentum and that was a feature of the game.

How can most of those be worse than yesterday when the opposition does not even have to do anything ?

Muric 3 - Was on course for my MOM, but you can't make that mistake at this level. All for giving Vigeroux a go now, don't want to see Trafford again until next season.
Assignon 7 ran his socks off
Ekdal 7 Boy in his right position, streets ahead of O'shea, shame he hasn't been fit enough to claim the shirt
Esteve 8 MOM He is improving hope we get him perm, took some punishment battering from Brighton
Vitinho 6 for effert
Berge 7 should he really be passing back to the goalie on his line
Cullen 7
Odobert 7 Should have had a pen, great cross for Fofana that was missed, prefer him on the left
Bruun Larsen 5 good first half, faded 2nd
Foster 4 not the same as earlier in the season
Fofana 4 sadly not good.
Taylor 6 should have started
Brownhill 8 great goal and effort
Rodriguez 6
Apart from Taylor, there should have been another centre back on the bench rather than Berge go back to replace Ekdal

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
Muric 5 - difficult for me to score, 'cos he adds composure to the side and commanded his area well. Distribution some what mixed but when good, it was very good, but that was probably the worst own goal I've ever seen; shame the forwards hadn't spurned the chances earlier and this would be quickly brushed aside.
Assignon 7 - he's quick and ran his socks off and was laughably assaulted, by a lad who got a polite request not to do it a again.
Ekdal 8 - thought he had a top game today. Positioning and challenging very good, just short of pace. Not fully fit yet.
Estève 7 - another good game, not quite as assured as others on the ball. Exceptional recovery in the 2nd half to get back and dispossess their forward in the box, took a nasty foul at the end of the 1st half, which earned their player a disapproving look from the ref..
Vitinho 6 - decent enough for me, gives us a bit more going forward and effort undoubted.
Odobert 5 - not involved enough, nevertheless set up a sitter for Fofana
Cullen 6 - OK, took a booking for the team when his runner was getting away from him. Will do for me.
Berge 6 - tried to get forward a bit more in this game but no end product
Bruun Larsen 5 - from the start he seemed to have his full back on toast, and looked just too good for their lad; disappointingly didn't impact the game and missed a sitter
Foster 5 - worked as hard as he could, of that I don't doubt, but not sure of his fitness.
Fofana 3 - missed a sitter, hangs on to the ball too much and attitude stunk, ignored Foster when subbed.
Taylor 6 - a defensive fullback who simply doesn't suit our system
Rodriguez 6 - not at his best but wise and miles better than the lad he replaced.
Brownhill 7 - intercepts and reading of the game are his strengths, not the possession based quick passing football to which we aspire, yet his tireless approach and willingness to chase down lost causes gave him the goal.

Ah I gotcha Tony, everytime a goalie makes a clanger, it's an automatic 3, despite playing well for the rest of the game.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 9:43 amWhat do you want people to give him? Does this apply to strikers who miss open goals and defenders who back pass to the opposition? Give them automatic 3's as well.
In my view there were two other people on the pitch who were an absolute disgrace to the shirt, and the only ones deserving of a 3
But it's all about opinions

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
Muric (5) - Did OK until the error. Which is like saying the Titanic's maiden voyage was going fine until the iceberg. You just can't make mistakes like that.
Assignon (6) - Not entirely sure how he managed to get away without a booking.
Ekdal (8) - Looked good until he had to go off.
Esteve (8) - Looked good, full stop.
Vitinho (6) - Not a PL left-back but we all knew that already.
Odobert (7) - Should have had a penalty and a couple of assists in the first half. Nothing like as dangerous in the second.
Cullen (6) - OK.
Berge (6) - Just launch it next time, yeah?
Brunn Larsen (5) - You just can't miss chances like that.
Foster (4) - Pretty anonymous until he was moved out to the wing, after which he completely disappeared.
Fofana (3) - Pick the best-performing striker from our U21s and give them a go for the rest of the season. There's no way they could be worse.
Brownhill (6) - Deserved his goal for his perseverance, if nothing else.
Taylor (5) - Doesn't fit into this team.
Rodriguez (5) - No impact on the game.
Pretty much our season in one match. Slow, laboured, ponderous, lacking in tempo and urgency, unable to press effectively, unable to deal with another team’s press, players out of position, witless substitutions, game-changing errors with nowhere near enough quality in attack to make up for them.
And more worrying, very few signs that we're learning any of the ample lessons that have been handed to us.

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
From tv
Muric 6 -2 for ridiculous mistake
Assignon 6 good in bits, bad in bits
Ekdal 7 good to see him back, he and Esteve played well together
Esteve 8 just pips Ekdal for mom
Vitinho 5 I will repeat what I have said on here tens of times....he is not a full back and certainly not a lb. I cannot understand VK continuing to pick him there
Odobert 6 still very young, but there is a lot of potential
Cullen 6 not his usual self
Berge 7 still our best midfielder
Larson 6 should have scored
Fofans 4 not gelling with Foster
Foster 4 not gelling with Fofana
Taylor 6 still our best left back
Brownhill 7 brings energy and there for his goal
Jayrod 6 I assume these games are his swan song
To much huffing and puffing up front without hurting Brighton at all. Muric would have got an eight off me but for his inexcusable, ridiculous cock-up. He really has to get this out of his game otherwise he is a laughing stock. I really have no idea what our starting line up will be next season in the Championship, more worrying is that VK and his team don’t know either.

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
Goalkeepers do operate on a different basis from outfield players when it comes to errors..You simply cannot do what Muric did yesterday - it's a stinker and anything else done in the game is irrelevant.
The goalkeeper debate has become very political for some and it seems the side those people picked requires a defensive of their chosen keeper that's skewing opinions of game to game performance. Not surprising really and ultimately a consequence of Kompany's odd team selections for most of the season.

Muric 6 - I can only dock him 1 point for his cock up.
Assignon 6
Ekdal 7
Esteve 8**
Vitinho 6
Berge 7
Cullen 6
Bruun Larsen 6
Odobert 5
Foster 5
Fofana 4
Taylor 6
Rodriguez 5
I really can't understand why Fofana has displaced Foster in the centre. Odobert should be wide and Taylor should have started.

Also could have gained us 1 point. For all we know Brighton could have scored from the corners where Muric claimed the ball, if it were Trafford in goal. He was very tidy in those instances.Hapag Lloyd wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 9:23 amWhichever ever way you try to dress it up there’s no getting away from the fact that Muric has lost us 2 points.
I get it. Building up expectation then being let down (including by the manager) has been the story of our season. But we cannot lay the whole thing at Muric’s door. Though clearly many are (including Brownhill judging by the easy lip reading of f***** t*** as the game ended).

Re: Burnley v Brighton - Player Ratings
Muric 3 Other than the schoolboy error, which I will never understand, he was actually having a fantastic game... minus 4 or 5 for the error.
Assignon 6 solid. Will still be playing in the Prem next year. With or without us IMO
Ekdal 7 Excellent. Very poised. If he can overcome his injury curse, he will form a great back two pairing with Esteve next season.
Esteve 7 Love his leadership. The first to talk to Muric after the clanger.
Vitinho 4 poor as always. Stupid to play him at LB with Taylor on the bench.
Foster 5 Another out of position.
Berge 8* Our best player overall this season. Another who will stay in the Prem next season.
Cullen 6 Decent. Still making the team tick.
Odobert 6 two best crosses of the game. Both should have been tucked away. Too wasteful at times.
BL 5 Minus one for the terrible miss. Otherwise, decent.
Fofana 4 Another whose finishing has been rank. So much potential. Could have kept us up.
Taylor 6 Limited and played some awful crosses in. But 100 times better than Vitinho at LB.
Brownhill 7 Excellent when he came on. Lots of energy and silenced the critics.
Jay Rod 5 Puts the effort in but spent at this level.
Tresor 4 Barely touch the ball or looked like he wanted to.
A lot of stupid comments as usual on here. If was a very good performance, only scuppered by a comedy show moment from Muric. It's funny that the loudest whiners now, were the one's baying for his to start for 6 months. He's played well except for two awful errors. One a season maybe... but two in 6 games is criminal.

Re: Hanover above.
Tresor actually had more touches in added time than any player on the pitch apart from Dunk.
Just saying, for the benefit of those not present. Agree on Muric though.
