So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
Personally I think he has added a massive amount of confidence to our team and approach (1 win 3 draws 1 loss) but they were massive uck ups!
I still feel far more comfortable with Muric than Trafford but those uck ups have cost us massively.
Should Laurence be given a chance given there is not too much jeopardy/

Also what has been Benson's crime?
How has he offended VK so badly that he would bring on on Tresor in front of him when we need to score???

I think I'd keep him in, he took some dangerous crosses very well today so, yeah, keep him in for next week against Sheff U.

Re: So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
I was one that wanted Muric back in ahead of Trafford. Hand up.
I do think he suits our overall play better than Trafford and I think he's better at crosses and corners.
All that said, the prime role is to keep the ball out the net and twice in two weeks he's single-handedly been responsible for it going in. It's cost us 4 points and maybe our Premier League status.
If we hold Muric to the same standards as Trafford then yes he should be dropped. One F-Up might be excused but 2 in 2 weeks is a problem.
We do have a 3rd goalkeeper who has highly regarded. Based on what's happening I'm not sure why his name shouldn't now at least enter the conversation.

To keep foster on when he was offering nothing second half, and not putting on Benson is really poor. It seems like the Burnley management have lost the plot.
Muric keeps his place in the hope that stupid mistakes don't happen again, his vision for a good pass or throw is the best we've got

Absolutely remains. He is a better goalkeeper than Trafford. Trafford will improve over time and go on to be a very good keeper but I’d sit him out for the remainder of the season.

You play your best players and Muric is the best keeper at the club by some distance.

Huge, costly error but he’s still the better of the two keepers. I mean, there’s Vigouroux too but it would be a bit of a curveball to throw him in.

Re: So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
I don't think you can make two mistakes of that magnitude in your first five Premier League games (especially back to back) and seriously hope to make it as a Premier League goalie. Seems rash and possibly unfair to write him off so quickly but you just can't do it.
Don't really care who plays as the results don't matter but unfortunately as far as Muric is concerned the dream is over.

Cost us more in the space of a week than Trafford has all season. I had worries about him last season but we were so dominant he wasn’t exposed to any great degree.
It’s a difficult call now because do you bring Trafford back in and potentially shatter Muric’s confidence? (that will take some coming back from today)

No I’d stick with him and show him some loyalty. It’s easy to remember the howlers and forget the saves, the passing and the ones where he has taken control of the high balls in his box.

On the basis we have lost only one in 5/ 6 games ?? I would give him a last chance. We dont look as exposed with him from corners and free kicks, and his distribution is far better. Having said that we must have the two worst keepers in the PL if you take the first and second choice of all 20 clubs

Bring Vigouroux in and send both Trafford and Muric to Everton to work with Billy Mercer for a month or so

Re: So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
In general I'm a bit uncomfortable with the clamour for Benson. Equally I questioned the clamour for Muric.
On balance I just think as fans it's very easy to pick holes when things aren't going well. You listen to a lot of people on here, and at the games, and it's presumably obvious the changes that need making. Easy to now make pretty significant claims with the benefit of hindsight... 'we'd be safe now if muric and Benson had been playing all season'.
Your average Joe clearly has a better idea than our management team....you'd think.
I genuinely don't believe the team from last year would have faired any better. Where I feel the issue is, is that potentially the system required to just survive as a newly promoted team at this level, does not really align itself with (what I actually believe to be a sensible longer term approach) the system that Kompany and Pace are trying to implement.
I just think grit and experience are pretty much a pre requisite for competing effectively at the bottom end of the Premier league. In preparation for this season we clearly have focused on bringing in players that fit the long term model. The downside of that is the lack of experience.
We've also had some rotten luck. Arguably if we had got the rub of the green more, Kompany would potentially be being lauded as a genius. We really haven't though. Arguably we haven't done enough to deserve it.
Ultimately I'm disappointed and frustrated.
What I really hope for though, is a positive end to the season. This team, and our system, i do believe, will be strong in the championship. But I'd like to see some significant tweaks to the strategy as we go along, that will set us up for a much better attempt next time (assuming we get promoted).
As much as i completely appreciate that people are uncomfortable having our club ran as a business, by businessmen who are ultimately motivated by the potential financial rewards..... well that's modern day football. Ultimately our aspirations as fans, probably are pretty aligned with the owners. We want success and to compete at the highest level..... they want a return on investment.... which only really comes with the club achieving success and competing at the highest level.
Anyway.... I need a lie down now!

Re: So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
Whilst I think Muric has a calamity in him, if he starts the season as number one then he doesn't make either of those most recent mistakes, IMO.
He did make mistakes last season - Blackpool and Watford at home were mistakes, and he had a torrid time at Sheffield United - but overall he was excellent, especially once the fans started trusting him and stopped cheering when he went long.
I think we're on +5 points over the season had Muric started every game - using no science or maths whatsoever to justify that number.
But I don't think either goalkeeper is solely responsible for our shortcomings - we have a young, naive manager who may be too stubborn; we have a young, naive team who can't take their chances; and we've had some shocking decisions go against us and I can't think of a shocker going for us, and the quality of the league has seemingly jumped a few notches in the one season we were out of it.

Re: So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
I think a last chance is sensible, there is enough support for him still. If Trafford came back in now. he would suffer from the clowns that like to shout abuse at him. I think either way Trafford will be the starting keeper the first game of next season.
I think it’s pretty clear why teams weren’t queuing up to sign Muric last year. He’s always had that lack of concentration/moments of madness in him. Trafford is the more valuable asset by a mile.

He’s the best keeper at the club for the way we want to play. He’s made 2 mistakes in consecutive games, and I guarantee that he won’t make the same mistakes again. Of course he keeps his place.

So far the decision to not play Muric and Anass looks justified given one is throwing goals into our own net and the other can’t even get in the Hull side.
The fans who have spent all season clamouring for these players have been made to look a little stupid.

If he’d have come in at Christmas he wouldn’t be under the unbelievable pressure we are now under. Stop playing around at the back might be an idea but old habits die hard especially when it seems the management want the players to do that 90% of the time.

Another meaningless stat (we have only lost one in 5/6 games) when they have mainly been against teams in the bottom half of the PL Table and none against teams in the top 6. We even played Wolves when they were toothless without the injured pair of Neto and Cunha.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 6:13 pmOn the basis we have lost only one in 5/ 6 games ?? Because people are able to see that while Muric has made two awful mistakes in consecutive games which have lost us points, he also enhances our play. Trafford has made mistakes and has less redeeming qualities to keep him in the side despite those mistakes. It's really not too difficult.

I would get rid of both Trafford and Muric before next season. Surely one of them is going to be the first £100 million player we sell.
Re: So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
Right now he's a far better keeper and the team look more confident playing out from the back than we do with Trafford. I thought he had a decent game again today apart from the massive mistake. Even Alison and Ederson have made bad mistakes, the difference is they playing in sides that are scoring goals and taking their chances.
