penalty decision
Just seen the penalty given to Man Ure. Why do we NEVER get a decision like that??
The decision today was embarrassing. Again. The Premier League absolutely stinks.
MASSIVE big club bias.

Totally agree
Re: penalty decision
What was he meant to do with his arm in that instance? Once of a day it would have just been ignored and play on

I thought Man Utd’s was a penalty though? Even Adam Smith knew he messed up raising his arm.

Re: penalty decision
No, we're clearly talking about a different match, I'm talking about the one where his arm is by his side and the ball hits him.
Never a penalty for any smaller club.
The Premier League is awful. The dollar talks...

Although I also agree that we wouldn’t get it. The right decision is penalty for any team though. IMO of course

Bournemouth denied a penalty in last minute as well. Another dodgy VAR decision

Not when they showed it from other side ,it was on the line and that's a penalty. Big club get another dodgy VAR call

Thought this was going to be about the Odobert penalty call today?
Not watched that back but it looked a pen to me live. Assuming it wasn’t given lack of discussion on it…

Re: penalty decision
If it had been at the other end for United they would have trotted out the "No clear and obvious error as it continued into the area" line and agreed with the on field decision.
Re: penalty decision
Watched the game on TV, in normal time without replays for me no penalty then on replays it was a penalty and then watching another angle maybe a pen and then another thought I’m not sure. I guess it wasn’t clear and obvious.
Re: penalty decision
Apparently Craig Bellemy is A-ok with penalty no-call.

I’ll have to try and watch it back. At first watch it looked like another 50:50 that went against us!

Re: penalty decision
Fair enough. Feel we’ve had some quite straight answers from Bellamy when he’s been filling in.
Re: penalty decision
According to the BBC, Bellamy said the below.
"On possible penalty: "I don't think it was a penalty personally. I thought it was a good decision by the referee."
Edit: Misread post I was responding to.

Bellamy is just taking the pi55. It was a sending off offence in rugby. I can forgive the ref but Jones on var - inexcusable.

Well having seen it from 20 different angles on the screens at halftime, and again on MoTD, I have to say Bellamy is wrong.

Re: penalty decision
I was working so only heard the game in Radio Lancs and Steve Thompson on co-comms was quite quick to dismiss the penalty call, saying Estupinan had played the ball.
Watching match of the day with the VAR footage, it's as clear a pen as you'll ever see.
He completely clatters Odobert....... then his right shin makes contact with the ball.

Re: penalty decision
The lack of any real chatter about the Odobert incident yesterday, left me assuming that those who’d had the benefit of seeing a replay had decided it wasn’t a penalty.
Having now watched it back myself, it’s a penalty. He crashes into Odobert before he clumsily gets contact on the ball. Completely takes Odobert out.

Re: penalty decision
Clear penalty and most galllingly Hooper spent the rest of the afternoon giving that sort of clumsy man-then-ball tackle as a foul without fail. Brighton nearly scored directly from one such free kick at the end of the half when Muric made a decent save.

It was 100% a free kick anywhere else on the pitch, I thought it was a poor decision.

Re: penalty decision
I said straight away that it was a penalty and everything I have seen since then on my return home has confirmed that. As spice said, to add insult to injury, he gave free kicks all afternoon for that sort of tackle. I have given up trying to understand refereeing decisions these days.
The problem is that IFAB will probably dream up more adjustments to the Laws of the Game and their interpretation just to keep the confusion going.

Re: penalty decision
The penalty decision was diabolical. The defender didn't get the ball before he took the Burnley player down. Imagine that decision at the Kop End at Anfield or the Stretford End at Utd. It would have been given in an instant with a yellow card shown to the defender and VAR would have given the OK in seconds. We're not playing in a fair world unfortunately.

Looked a penalty in live action and it’s a penalty on the repeat viewing. We’ve been poor this season and very much the architects of our own downfall in a lot of ways but my god we’ve had some shite decisions

Managed to watch it back now and cannot work out for the life of me why that wasn’t given or how Bellamy could be okay with it.
Unless there’s an angle where he makes contact with the ball before he collides in to Odobert it’s as nailed on pen as I’ve seen.
I’m still angry about the Kruhl one on Vyds. That was GBH in the street and ultimately played a role in sending us down. As you say, we’ve conspired to send ourselves down this year but there’s no doubt in my mind we’d be out of the relegation zone without all the awful decisions given against us.

Pretty sure Bellamy is just not wasting his time and getting into trouble giving refs grief. His post-game interviews have been all about saying the right things and being as non-controversial as possible.

It will probably feature on 'Ref Watch' on Sky Sports News @ 11:30.
I think the panel and Dermot Gallagher will agree it should have been given.

Re: penalty decision
Gallagher and Sue something said definitely a penalty and he was very lucky, Warnock said there's a case the defender stepped across his man shielding the ball with good defending therefore in control of the ballgawthorpe_view wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 11:12 amIt will probably feature on 'Ref Watch' on Sky Sports News @ 11:30.

Never heard anything as stupid in my life, stepping across is one thing but who steps across with their leg across the forwards hip so high up?
Re: penalty decision
I don't know why we even bother discussing these decisions. VAR is as corrupt as the game and nothing will change. I can no longer watch matches streamed live because I get so wound up with VAR and poor refs. I'm protecting my health before I have a heart attack.

Re: penalty decision
No doubts. And that is even relative to other sides, who must also get some tough decisions. But as Luton and Forest have both directly benefitted from ref’s errors against us, I find it hard to believe their impact is as great as it is on us.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 11:41 pmAgree entirely with this.

We’ve shot ourselves in both feet often, and been robbed, often both in the same game.

- JBL miss an open net
- Fofana miss an open net
- Muric score the worst og of all time
… and yet also…
- a stonewall penalty turned down that’d have bagged us 2 additional points.
We’ve been **** at times but also good enough to survive if decisions had been fair.
