Booing the knee

Post by helmclaret » Sat Apr 13, 2024 7:21 pm

We must be the only club in the football league who still boo this. It’s pathetic, embarrassing and awkward for fans, players and staff.

Fortunately I only heard clapping where we were apart from a couple of jeers … which soon stopped

Definitely some in the Longside upper.

Ben Mee spoke really eloquently about why they do it. Turf Moor should be a place where everyone feels welcome.

Whilst I agree to a degree, I dont want to feel "Welcome" at Ewood or Deepdale.

I think not feeling welcome due to the colour of your skin is a bit different to not feeling welcome because you support the visiting team.

More or less embarrassing than taking it? I wouldn't boo it myself, but post Qatar and the Saudi money grab I'm afraid signalling virtue by a group so morally bankrupt doesn't carry much weight.

so.... was it actually for OJ? :o I remember the trial back then but I really thought he was guilty until he struggled to get his hand in the glove and proved it wasn't him. Maybe we should've all brought a tight glove with us to wave in the air during the knee ceremony.

I don't agree and wouldn't boo but respect that people have a different opinion. They have every right to express their opinion by booing.

As for the knee it's all just become a bit pointless, I don't even notice it happening anymore.

This thread won't last long. Like it or not it has connotations with BLM from when people held up the logo while taking the knee, and also the footballers wore the shirts with this logo and had the BLM banner on sky sports. Now we know it was a very militant movement and there were some very unscrupulous characters involved with managing the finances, I've not heard of one thing that money was used in terms of helping people. Maybe that explains the booing?

I've said countless times on here before if the players just stand together shoulder to shoulder next to a banner of kick racism out, I'm willing to bet no one would boo.

Not hard to see why Burnley has the reputation it does with people on here so against an anti-racism gesture. The mental gymnastics folk go through to justify it is funny though. Just admit you’re racist, it’s fine nowadays!

Fair enough but it’s pretentious twaddle. If I go to a gig, or a farmers market or the cinema, nobody takes the knee to signal inclusion before the main event starts. People just go for the event. Rascist tw@ts are rascist tw@ts of whatvever race. You ain’t going to change them by signalling. A pig is a pig. It doesn’t care what you call it.

I think he/they said they was booing it because they don't agree with the nonsense.
If somebody feels that something is nonsensical then they should probably have the right to express their opinion in a non violent manner. I suppose if it was a more organised form of non agreeance a group of people could have started a chant someting like "We don't agree with that, weee dooon't agree with that" to the tune of "You're support is f*ckin shi*t.."etc

its idiotic to expect a huge body of fans to adhere to a campaign foisted upon them. we all have individual opinions, we all see how things are panning out through the news networks and social media outlets. It should not be expected that somehow as a mass we will coalesce into one unified group simply because some group or individuals want to organise a rallying point for a political issue. The whole BLM issue has had numerous critics for a myriad of reasons. As with other campaigns it can be divisive. I for one think these sort of things should be kept well away from sport.

If players are going to make overt political gestures they need to accept the fans also have a right to voice their disapproval.

It's clear as day why fans find it distasteful for the players to be making a BLM gesture. Claiming it isn't anything to do with BLM is disingenuous and everybody knows the gesture was brought in to support BLM. The PFA issued a press release saying this was the case.

The easiest way to stop the booing is for the FA and PDA to stop making their BLM gesture.
