Finishing above Forest

Post by MT03ALG » Sun Apr 14, 2024 1:02 am

Assuming we beat Forest in the last game we may well have a good chance of finishing above them but will we still be in the bottom three ?

This.

We might beat Sheffield but we will struggle to get points from any other games and will already be down when they rock up for the last game

A massive ask after having our woeful finishing yesterday in a game where we threw away 2 points Why Tressor was played instead of Benny was a complete mystery and again poor substitution by our management team cost us points.

We're gone.
When we were winning yesterday we were 4 points behind Forest, then came Muric's Monty Python moment.
Six points in our situation is one hell of a gap.
And as said above, some extraordinary decisions regarding players and subs has been one of the hallmarks of our season.
Looking at the table, us and Sheff U will go, and there may well be a shoot out between Luton and Forest.

How many points have we now dropped from winning positions ?

That stat will explain why we are almost certainly relegated

Goalkeeper blunders ?, VAR decisions ?

The table shows the outcome of all 38 games at the end, not just isolated incidents - that happen to most teams throughout the season

I’m absolutely convinced we will not only finish below Forest, we’ll finish below Sheff Utd as well.

How you can complain at Tresor when he literally played 5 minutes, I would argue benson and Tresor should have come on for foster and Odobert as soon as the equaliser went in, Larsen and Jay up top Tresor and benson wide

Tressor has been an awful signing and playing him at all as VK knows how poor he's been is nonsense

We are 6 plus 1 for goals behind. Massive ask. Win all ours, when we can't score a proper goal, only world's and Forest fall apart...

Tough ask when we can't score tap-ins (or other types of goals for that matter), coupled with a desire to gift the opposition at least one goal a game :D

The bigger issue is do we choose to try to relegate them in the final game or do we let Luton come down with us?

Personally, I’d take Forest, payback for the owner and well deserved for Luton. No guarantee they will romp the Championship next season. They lose Gibbs White and Akinyi for a start.

Unfortunately cock-ups, mistakes, blunders, etc seem to be systemic and not just the odd one-off. I don't understan it.

The only thing left for Burnley to play for is trying to avoid the wooden spoon, and the game this weekend could well determine as to which manager will be left holding that at the end of May.

No chance we’re staying up now.

Hope we beat Sheffield United and potentially catch Luton, although even that’s unlikely as they have an easier run now.

We and Sheff Utd have the same teams to play, plus they have Everton……I really don’t want us to finish bottom and so fingers crossed we can avoid that, but in this house we have resigned ourselves to the fact we will be playing Championship football next season……..

After today we will finish above Sheffield United and may well finish above Forest if we beat them on the final day of the season. Luton also seem to be at the start of a bad spell. Watch this space !!

We're 3 behind Forest and our goal difference is worse. So we need more points from our next 3 games than Forest get from their next 4. And one of those 4 is against Sheffield United. (And Forest will probably get a penalty point back on appeal.)

So to answer the question, no we won't.

(Everton have to play Forest, Luton, Brentford and Sheffield United. Even Everton can win one of them. So we won't catch them either.)

The galling thing is a change of keeper has led to six games and 9 points with goals conceded of 7 and that with our keeper costing us 3 points or maybe more
Even if we lose the next 4 games that is 9 from 10 as opposed to 14 from 28. It is hard for me to believe a change of keeper sooner would not have helped our chances of survival and the reason for that is the stubbornness of VK
Trafford had a promising career ahead of him apparently. Has VK ruined the young lad?

He might’ve ruined our chances of staying up but there’s no way he’s ruined Trafford.

I agree, Traffords confidence must be shot at. Shoild have been brought in for cup games to ease him in, not throw him in the deep end.

We need 7 PTS minimum and Forest to only get points against Sheff Utd, can't see it myself but stranger things have happened.

Those four points dropped by not being clinical v Wolves and Brighton are now looking massive.

Forest are only team we could possibly catch.
Last game against them will be meaningless. How many points do we think we can get away to united home to Newcastle away to spurs. Very few in my opinion.

We need an unexpected win against either Man U, spurs or Newcastle. Sadly I can’t see it. Forest will have bribed all the officials on the last game if we have a chance so not looking likely and they may get one point back is the thinking from their appeal.

I think they should be docked 2 more points for a frivolous appeal.

Agree with this, I don’t think there will be many

A freak result at home to Newcastle will be our best chance of any.

We’re going to need:

- Everton win today (a draw or Forest win is no good at all)

- Everton to beat Luton next week

- A freak result somewhere in our three games

- Forest and Luton to lose their other 3 before we play

- An unsuccessful appeal by Forest

Fancy us getting something at Old Trafford. United play today and Wednesday before Saturday, and they are pretty shite.

Hope is what keeps us going as football fans. I still have in the back of my head what Huddersfield did when they won 3 on the bounce beating Chelsea etc

Utd have been terrible this season. Nothing stopping us getting 3 points there.

Newcastle have been very hit and miss.

Spurs have been inconsistent and defend like us.

Forest - enough said.

You could make a case for us being 12 points better off by the end of the season just as easily as making a case for us getting 0. Admittedly the former scenario would depend on smoking more crack - but I’d rather be crack pipe half full than half empty

We need our passing play to create chances, which are taken and our defence to start playing from the get go. Then we will be OK. Otherwise, not.

We should have got something against United last time, and we’re now putting in better performances. No reason we can’t get something there if we avoid silly mistakes. Haven’t they conceded the most shots in the league other than Sheff Utd?

I’m pretty sure the damage has been done but it’s nice to finally be in a position where we have teams within our reach. The picture will look almost impossible if Forest win this afternoon though.
