Uni research on football's response to military conflict

Post by theacademic » Mon Apr 15, 2024 6:40 am

Dear all,

Leading up to the Euro tournament in June this year, I am conducting some research looking at fans’ views towards the role of football in response to military conflict. For those interested in this topic, I have created a short survey that should not take up too much of your time: https://doit.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form ... JfShOSBDDw

I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on this topic.

I'll fill in the survey but I'd just like to ask a question, please.

You write:

"Football, like other sports, has become more involved in social and political issues, especially Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ+ rights. But it hasn’t engaged with war: is this the moment?"

What is your definition of "engaged (with war)"?

UEFA have shown "Peace" signs in a lot of stadiums often in Ukranian. Not knowing how you define "engaged", maybe you don't feel doing this is significant. However, I can't recall UEFA doing anything similar before.

It has kicked Russia and Russian clubs out of its competition which, rightly or wrongly, is a political act.

It kicked Yugoslavia out of the 1992 Euro Tournament which was a political act.

Premier league footballers wouldn't be very good at warfare.

They might be able to dive out the way of bullets though.

Racing Universitaire Algerios (RUA) camus is their keeper

Genuine question here. What is the purpose of the survey and what do you aim to get out of the replies?

Because he is doing what the university tells him to and probably hasn’t got a clue himself.

He doesn't answer because contextualising the questions prejudices the research an dhis subsequent coding of answers
This questionnaire has been posted on every English football forum in Europe, I believe.

I've reported him to the Research Ethics Board at the University of South Australia.

Yes, I do have other things to do but the bloke is using this forum in an unethical manner.
