Thursday night games
Thursday night games
Anyone watching Villa? Lille looked to have been denied a clear penalty, VAR and officials say it came of the Villa defenders chest.
Re: Thursday night games
My mistake, Ref was pointing at his chest as if it hit there but he was actually making the 'arm was close to his body' gesture. Anyway, penalties.

Re: Thursday night games
Well there's a rule I never knew existed, a yellow card in normal time doesn't carry into the shootout. Martinez, booked twice ends up the hero for Villa.

Re: Thursday night games
Villa’s captain didn’t appear to know either with the way he ran over.

Re: Thursday night games
Would have been harsh anyway as he did appear to to be asking where the ball was that Bentaleb boomed into the crowd after Martinez saved his pen

Re: Thursday night games
Bayer Leverkusen win the tie, but also avoid being beaten on the night to go, I think, 45 games unbeaten. 45 games!
Going undefeated all season, winning the league, domestic cup and a european cup, is all on the cards. It's pretty mind-blowing really, and would set you up nicely had you bet on it at the start of the season.

Re: Thursday night games
So, 4 of the 5 teams who play in the "best league in the world " exit European competition in 24 hours. Hilarious. Methinks the EPL is overhyped.
Re: Thursday night games
Why is it hilarious?
In your opinion which is the best league in the world?
Arsenal, Man City and West Ham were knocked out by 3 of Europes current top teams.
West Ham's opponents haven't lost a single game all season, league or cup, either in European competition or in one of Europes top leagues.
14 times European champions Real Madrid are currently several points better off than Barcelona at the top of the Spanish League.
Arsenal's opponents Bayern, although currently lagging behind Leverkusen, are an excellent, experienced European team.
Liverpool's 1st leg performance against Atalanta was woeful and they deserved to be knocked out. They are on a bit of a slump at present with their form and it wasn't really that big of a surprise losing to Atalanta, particularly as Klopp left out 6 of his regular starting X1.
Have you been at Turf Moor this season? If so you will have noticed the incredibly skillfull players that England's top teams have at their disposal.
So I will ask again....which other European country has a tougher league than the Premier League?
Re: Thursday night games
OK, perhaps I was being a bit silly. But I'm sick and tired of getting told how wonderful the Premier League is week in week out. I've seen every game at Turf Moor this season and have been treated to diving, cheating, appalling refereeing and bizarre VAR decisions. I could go on. And yes, it is funny in my opinion.Targetman wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 9:36 amWhy is it hilarious?

You may be right. But it doesn't make what I see every other week more palatable. On another note entirely, I think we may have met when I bought tickets to see Rick Wakeman perform in Bamford many years ago. Would that be you Dave?
