Safe standing at the Turf

Gotta say the safe standing at Spurs was excellent . While that’s state of the art stadia it certainly “ works “ the only negative is that it’s actually so safe you’re a bit spread out capacity wise .

Yeah, it’s a bit dull to be honest.

Though the first time I experienced it we were being battered 5-0, and most were sat down.

It amazes me that they haven’t decided to do a natural seating partition between the away fans and the home fans. It makes sense to have all blocks adjacent to the away fans as seated, and allow the rest of the stand to stand. It would make stewarding the area much easier as they could enforce fans to sit which would go a long way to stopping the idiots who run at the away fans every time we score.

This is Chelsea’s SS area ( or part of it ) while it’s definitely way better to have this in all grounds in a dedicated section than not , if anything it encourages people to sit down and lean on the bar I think .

We added the extra fence to prevent the running towards away fans and some fans were still hopping over it so they made it higher to prevent people doing it full stop. I think on the one section can move a few feet across now?

On trial on Saturday

We have just had a call from NUFC to ask people travelling to Burnley on Saturday to arrive early at Turf Moor. They’re trialling safe standing for the first time & there will be 2-3 blocks allocated in the away end for this. Those in this section will be allocated wristbands on arrival to avoid congestion in these areas.

Already disliking safe standing based on those Chelsea pictures, Looks horrid, people of a certain height especially kids may have their view blocked (either by standing in front, or a rail in front if sitting), and very tall blokes may crack their head on the rail behind.

The reality may be better than that, but that is how it looks. I do like the idea of the woman in the white t shirt on the right hand side for watching Chelsea games though, it may catch on, looks a full Darth Vader mask that one with no view of the pitch

I’m not moaning about it because better atmosphere is sorely needed, but in full stadiums there will be a lot of people who decide it is not for them but have nowhere to move to. It thus needs planning carefully.

Oh okay, I thought that section was for use when in cup games we are required to allocate 15% to away supporters, the reason I had that in my mind was it was first installed before Lincoln came to town. Obviously the 'no mans land' gap between the fans has been widened which has taken some seats away.

Seems odd they don’t just convert the whole stand ? It’s always standing in there anyway ? As for an “ emotional “ meeting about a few rows of safe standing ?? I know the FAB are hardly alpha male chest thumping boneheads but ffs !

The first fence that the arrow points to was the original divide. Then the club put plastic seats in the away end, which enabled the club to gain another section and had to put another dividing wall up to leave 2.
The section behind the goal had gated access when I was in there.

The point of safe standing is to stand, not sit down, but with a seat for half time, etc.

I love its reintroduction. For whatever reason watching football sat down has never felt right to me. I much prefer away days when I’m stood up - it just feels how football should be watched. I much prefer the safety of not having people pile over seats as has happened a few times to me and my boys before though.

Agree it should be carefully rolled out but I see no reason why the CFS shouldn’t immediately become safe standing, maybe with parts of the longside in time. Providing there’s enough seating for those who want to sit, it should be fine.

Annoyingly for me, it stops one row short of where I sit! I am sure they will do the whole stand over the summer though. Just to get rid of the wooden seats if nothing else.

Safe standing is great but not so for children or people of smaller height or even for some elderly.

Nobody sits in the CF Stand anyway, so no-one will get a worse view than they had before. I'm 70 and I still stand for most of the game even with a BIG step in front of me because my seat has the traverse aisle in front of it. It is one of the reasons I love being in the stand. I am glad the club has stated that has never forced people to sit, and will not, in that stand.
