POLL: Which former player would improve our current side the most?
Assuming fully-fit and in the case of Robbie Blake, available in his Burnley prime...

YOU HAVE TWO VOTES EACH.

Robbie wouldn't be a dyche type player though.
He liked to play football.

This is fun.
IMHO the best footballer on that list would not improve the team as we set up now, odd though that may seem.

I'd have Austin back any time, terrific striker; and when you don't create many chances you need a natural finisher like him.

I had a list of ten but after thought and for a number of reasons, left the likes of Little, Cahill, Ings etc out.

Re: POLL: Which former player would improve our current side the most?
None of them would be a great deal better than what we've got and certainly wouldn't effect the dynamics of the side significantly. Ings would he is the only class player of recent vintage.
Blake is too slow, Trippier defensively vulnerable at this level, Jay not as good as he was,Shackell and Jones inferior, Austin on a par with Gray.

I thought loads of people have been asking for a decent tricky winger for months and months....therefore
Dave Thomas
Ralph Coates
Leighton James
John Connelly
Chris Waddle..
- failing that
...non wingers..
Trevor Steven
Brian O Neill
Gazza [at his best]
Will that do...sorry.. I suggested more than one.

Re: POLL: Which former player would improve our current side the most?
I voted Trippier as we need an attacking outlet and I assume defensively he would be up to standard.
My second choice (I can't see how to vote for a second time?) would be Jason Shackell to replace Ben Mee! Shackell was one of the big plusses the last time we were here.

For me Blake but even then would be a bit part role or off the bench. That isnt a criticism of Dyche more the system.
Austin is the best finisher I have seen for us but that all went to pot in Dyches system. So as good as he is that wouldnt necissarily work.
Blake from the bench for flair, creativity and set pieces.

Robbie Blake probably. Sometimes you need that little bit of magic to unlock opposition defences and he was great for that.
Definitely not a Dyche player though!

Re: POLL: Which former player would improve our current side the most?
In all honesty I'd love to have seen Alexander in front of the back four with Defour and Marney bossing the midfield. The other obvious option of Gazza in his prime - of course that would win hands down.

Re: POLL: Which former player would improve our current side the most?
Tripps. Our strikers need better service and he was the best crosser of a ball we had since Wade Elliott. I like Lowton, but Tripps would be a huge upgrade. Blake would be fantastic, but I don't think he'd get in a Dyche team.

I thought we should have much longer list to choose from than in the poll. Based on the poll choices I would have picked Tripps - for his right wing attacking contributions, plus defensive capabilities. (Is he injured, btw - not in Spurs squad tonight)?
Based on what the team needs and picking from all the players I've seen play for Burnley, Brian O'Neil would be top of my picks. Ralph Coates, Dave Thomas and Trevor Steven would also be in and around, plus Martin Dobson. (Gazza was never "at his best" for Burnley, nor Wrighty or Chrissie Waddle).
I guess me and Hampstead are similar generation. Not like the old guys who come on here and were lucky enough to see the Clarets with the 1959/60 "Prem."

Oh well. Too late then!
I can understand the wish for Blake but what has he actually achieved in the Premier League? According to this chart he scored 2 and got 4 assists. Patterson and Nugent did better for similar appearances and Thompson scored more.

We've never replaced John Deary !!

Re: POLL: Which former player would improve our current side the most?
Tripps would undoubtedly have the biggest effect. His ability to get the ball into a good area of the box from deeper would have suited our current game style and we would have had more attempts on target away from home.
Austin was the best finisher of the attacking options and has proven that he can get bags of goals in this league for a team near the bottom.
Blake is probably the most skillful but not as consistently influential as the two above. His game didn't suit the tracking back and pressing that would also be sometimes required in our current team.

Austin & Gray up front. Trippier & Keane at back right. Heaton. Barton & Defour. Vokes & Ings on the wings. Mee.

Little and Blake. When they had the ball no matter where on the pitch you sat up, moved to the edge of your seat in anticipation of something magical.

Re: POLL: Which former player would improve our current side the most?
I voted Trippier and Blake. I still don't think we've truly adapted to losing Trippier. We still work the ball to the right-back and get ready for a cross from deep, but while Lowton is decent, he doesn't really have that in his locker. Trippier would give us greater attacking threat.
I went Blake over Austin cos I reckon Gray will score goals in the PL with the right service, while Blake could do something nobody in our squad can - create something out of nothing. Blake and Gray up front would be seriously worth watching.

Blake was out of his depth at the highest level.
Re: POLL: Which former player would improve our current side the most?
I don't think he had a fair crack at it to be honest, was usually used from the bench. Blake towards the end of his first spell with us was certainly good enough for the PL.

Re: POLL: Which former player would improve our current side the most?
Austin and Trippier definitely!! Lowton just isn't good enough and Gray's good games are going to be few and far between this year with his awful first touch.
