Police officers on this case need to be named and shamed. Seems a young person took his life because the people he should’ve been trusting were working against him.

A good few years ago my Uncle was accused of indecent expositor.
he was actually being harassed by local youths.
2 girls whose statements never matched accused him of indecent expositor.

1. Due to a medial condition this was impossible
2. Their stories were so different.
3. His neighbours told the Police of his harassment from, not only the girls but local youths.
4. He then had to move away from his home, and go into rental accommodation.
5. Press named and shamed him.
On the day of his Funeral Police, rang to say all charges were to be dropped.
Fortunately I took the Call and gave them what for.

They're already making changes to how rape allegations are investigated, with access to the mobile phones of the accusers.
If they don't hand their phone over then there's a chance the police won't forward the case to the CPS in some instances.

20yrs ago a friend of mine was accused of rape, which eventually the woman admitted she had lied about.
He had to change his name and move house to the other side of town to get away from the aggro.
A number of morons were adamant he'd done it, even after she admitted lying.
We had a few moments where things were very very close to getting out of hand with people wanting to hurt him.
Oddly after the truth came out, we were told we couldn't go near her, her place of work etc or we would be charged with harassment or intimidation.
Not really sure how that's fair, but she was never punished for making false allegations.

Any changes to help improve how rape allegations are investigated is welcome.

Any woman, or man, found making false accusations of rape should be named and shamed. This would make people aware that any consensual contact might lead to an allegation of rape.

Anyone found guilty of making blatantly obvious false accusations should face the prison sentence that the accused would have faced, had they been guilty.

No they shouldn’t. The two crimes are in no way comparable.

Mud sticks, especially from false rape allegations.

Also innocent people are being jailed, having their lives ruined and some people have killed themselves.

Yeah they aren't comparable, but they certainly need to be punished severely for a false rape allegation, including jail time.

There should absolutely be punishment for false accusations but to compare it on a par with statutory rape is absurd.

IMO neither party should be named until it has gone to trial and been investigated thoroughly. Unfortunately, the accused are guilty until proven innocent, especially in the media and on social media. This leads, as one poster has already pointed out, to lives being ruined for no reason. What irks me is that, even if found not guilty the acusers name is supressed in the media.....WRONG!
