North a separate country
North a separate country
I think the North of England should be a separate country. How much does the tax man get and how much does he use the cash in the north? The south has a different mandate, they don't care for the north.
If I were politically motivated I would pursue the matter further. Where to draw the line? Under Licolnshire, Staffs,, Shropshire and Notts.?"

There is a lot to be said for proper regional government.Pstotto wrote:I think the North of England should be a separate country. How much does the tax man get and how much does he use the cash in the north? The south has a different mandate, they don't care for the north.

It would assist Ireland, Wales and Scotland, too.
It is England which has the issues, which need addressing and this could be the way.

Being northern isn’t to do with geography, it’s a state of mind.

Very much like Bohemia and Moravia here. (There is also Czech Silesia but that's basically Moria so we leave them to it)

I think England could easily be divided into 4 regions:
The 'rich as f***' Region (London and the home counties + East Anglia),
The 'doing OK thank you very much' Region (Midlands + South),
The 'Oooo Arrr' Region (South West + Southern Marches)
The 'We get knocked down but we get up again' Region (Anywhere not included above)

Of course if you visit London you will see those driving round in Bentleys and Ferraris, and see the affluence in Chelsea and Knightsbridge and Hampstead.
But there is real poverty in many parts of London and the surrounding areas. Property prices and rents mean many are living hand to mouth. Credit card debt is keeping many people afloat....for the moment.
The North has much to be enjoyed. We’re surrounded by incredible countryside...the Pennines, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

Spot on....though TBH I've seen more Ferraris in Brierfield and nelsonLoveCurryPies wrote:Of course if you visit London you will see those driving round in Bentleys and Ferraris, and see the affluence in Chelsea and Knightsbridge and Hampstead.

The Magnificent Seven gather a posse against the Pstotto!
I HATE POLITICS. I HATE RELIGION. I HATE ANY DISCOURSE TO DO WITH RACE, GENDER AND SEXUALITY.
If the country were run properly and sorted I WOULDN'T HAVE TO MAKE THE POST.
I'd rather do other things to be honest...

Re: North a separate country
We can have our very own Game of thrones type relationships. Dyche can be the warden of the north, we can let the mackems and the geordies protect us as the nights watch to make sure None of those pesky battered sausage eating White Walkers make it down here. Then when we get a bit bored, March down on to the capital on the back of our dragons and blast the living **** out of them. That what you had in mind?

Re: North a separate country
As a resident of the City of Bristol within the South West quarter of England, I must stress that collectively, as well as individually, we are anything but the same as Londoners in your derogatory use of the term "Southerners".
I would suggest that the Westcountry has more in common with the North than the South East of England.
Yours,
Foshiznik
South West England Spokesperson.
