Re: Danny Baker sacked
Think is was incredibly stupid and thoughtless, and a seconds thought would have stopped him. BBC had to be all over it t be fair, but severe reprimand because there is no history or sign that Baker is a racist. I’m not his biggest fan but do feel he has been hung out to dry for utter thoughtlessness.
Suspect the fact that the Royals demanded serious action swayed it. Maybe the BBC regretted giving him such a high paying contract too, though this is pure supposition on my part.

I always turned him off when he was on talksport because he's an annoying, celebrity type football fan (his rant about no longer being able to walk into the Everton boardroom being a case in point) but he's apparently a man of the people according to Ringo.
There must be two Mike Grahams I guess.

If there's an arena that allows millions of the residents of the metropolitan London Borough of Ivory Towers to get angry over the rise of the Brexit Party. Complain about having to pay more for their aupairs and tradesmen cos the supply of cheap foreign labour is drying up. Whine on about their favourite Michelin started restaurant strugging to recruit fresh zero hour , minimum wage staff. Tell each other how incredibly inclusive they are, while living on exclusively middle to upper class areas, and have their echo chamber all supervised by the champagne socialist with starrf. Then good luck to em.

"“I hated stepping down from Newsnight and could have stayed with simple changes to my modus operandi outside the Beeb. The decision makes me look decent so they claim I was axed.” James obrian.
So there you have it. He claims he left. They said they got rid. ( due to his lack of ability to be impartial )
Unsurprisingly, you choose to believe the former.
Fact is, like Baker, his bigoted, biased and idiotic comments, means he's no longer employed by the BBC.

I'd like to think so. A presenter that doesn't just claim to love diversity but, actually encourages diversity of opinion. I mean, the only two decent presenters on at 10-1 are Emma Barnett and James O'Brien.

Re: Danny Baker sacked
It was massively misjudged, but the only plausible explanation is that he didn't realise the racial connotations when he posted it. If he was a racist, which I don't believe for a second he is, the motivation to post a joke with that intent would've been massively overshadowed by the reaction he knew it would get.
It's not a good joke, but the circus around revealing the baby does render his motivation plausible in my opinion. Racism in any form is abhorrent, but so is destroying someone for an innocent mistake. The world of social media is brilliant at pedalling both.

Re: Danny Baker sacked
A lazy and rather illogical attempt at being droll. Over the decades since such abuse and intolerance was apparently quite common, the BBC - like many other organisations - has evolved into a far more stringent outfit. Ironic that some punters on here criticise it for being "PC" and only being interested in quotas and box-ticking.DustyBawls wrote:Today's BBC statement:

The police and, to some extent I must add, the Church seem to be doing the same.
Back on topic, Baker's arrogant attempt to portray himself as the victim in all this merely compounds his prickishness. I suspect even a tool like DB couldn't argue with that.

There's a real lack of effort in Danny Baker's sackings these days.
At least when he called a referee "a worm in the heart of football" you knew that he *meant* to be insulting.

You will obviously come back with the BBC statement that he has been dismissed.
There is no disputing that he left because he didn’t want to be censored or limited in his ability to be critical but your analogy was wrong.
But seeing how you've still not come to terms with me proving you wrong when I asked you "did the majority of Labour MPs vote for an EU referendum?" To which you said, " No" .
You had to treat the remark as though it had been made in a court of law!
I didn't in any way come out in support of Baker. Quite the opposite. I even described his remarks as "biased bigoted garbage."
But no, you chose to go on a "my source is bigger than your source" conversational cul de sac.
I quoted Obrian himself who revealingly admitted the BBC would say they sacked him as he, like you once again, tried to save face.
You say my analogy was wrong. I wouldn't expect anything else.
What I said I, said it in jest. However, both Baker and Obrian were sacked due to comments they'd made while "off duty" so to speak, not while broadcasting or presenting on the BBC. Both motormouths more than capable of coming out with divisive, controversial and in the case of Baker, offensive language that the BBC could no longer tolerate.
I had literally months of fun watching you tying yourself in knots in the vain attempt of trying backtrack on getting a simple question wrong.
It's obviously eaten away at you. You were wrong previously, you're wrong now and the odds are you'll be wrong in the future.
The weekend is upon us , as is the summer hopefully. The prospect of spending hours arguing whether obrian was or was not sacked really does come a second best to having a life. So you'll forgive me if I don't indulge you in your trying to even up the score.
You'll reply, no doubt, you can have the last word, by all means fill your boots. But if you're expecting a reply you'll be sorely disappointed.

Oh bless you it was all a bit of “Bants”, a little quip! Haha, the evidence, another unfamiliar concept, together with research, proof and procedure is an unknown to you. Very nice of you to concede, that’s probably unfamiliar as well but at least you seem to have learnt when to stop digging so I do feel, as this this season comes to a close, that I’ve done my bit in trying to educate you.RingoMcCartney wrote:I made the quip about about obrian as an off the cuff remark.

Danny Baker has been living on borrowed time - and reputation - for years -IMHO, of course.
Wasn’t he supposed to be emigrating to Australia a couple of years ago, after his early exit from IACGMOOH?
I see that part of his “defence” was that he didn’t know which Royal had had a baby. Really? He hadn’t seen a newspaper, or a website, or heard a radio show, or seen a TV report that Meghan was pregnant? Must have been the only sentient creature in England that didn’t know.
Not a great loss.
Give me Liza Tarbuck any day.
