Scott Carson
According to Nixon, we fancy Carson if we offload Hart it Pope.

Fine as a backup.
Re: Scott Carson
It tells me they expect both Hart and Pope to leave. There's no way Carson comes as 3rd choice.FactualFrank wrote:Fine as a backup.

Re: Scott Carson
I'd be happy with Hart leaving and would understand Pope leaving as he'll want first team football. It would free up another squad space and lower the wage bill.
I'd expect a sell-on clause though with Pope. 20% should do it.

Nixon’s certainly using our goalkeeping “issue” to fill some column inches.

Re: Scott Carson
Absolutely fine backup, and exactly what’s needed.
I like Pope but he’s too valuable to let depreciate, I’d be offloading him if we can get £15m or so. Hart can go for free if someone will take his contract over, MLS or similar.
Time to get back to having a dedicated, de facto number one and an obvious (but capable) number two.

If this is going to happen, then the sooner the better, as we have more pressing issues elsewhere on the field.

Re: Scott Carson
I don’t like reading this one bit. Scott Carson is a goalkeeper that I have never rated. I recall him having a run of good games for Charlton. He then got England international recognition on from there, in my opinion, went rapidly downhill.
If we have to offload Pope, I’d be having a look at Max O'Leary at Bristol City. He’s out of their academy and as third choice keeper, was thrown in at the deep end against Aston Villa a few weeks ago. Despite losing the game, he was absolutely magnificent. Looks a real player for the future. I would much rather have someone like this in the wings then Carson

Re: Scott Carson
I think someone young would be best as 3rd choice. Two keepers with experience, and one coming through learning the trade from the other two, and being placed on the 'conveyor belt' ready to grow into a first choice option.

Agreed, we need a young keeper with great potential like Nick Pope when he signed for us.

You do understand the concept of a back up I take it?

Re: Scott Carson
In terms of the keeper pecking order, surely an incoming SC wouldn't be third choice, but go straight to no. two behind Tom, above the other two?

Legzdins and Lindegaard to leave and Carson to come in. Leaving us with 4 England goalkeepers.

Carson?!?! Is someone having a laugh?
Re: Scott Carson
Ledzkins (spelling) is not OOC until 2020 so he would stay as number 3. Where is Mitchell in the pecking order now as he is over 21 so wouldn’t be able to play unless in the 25 and surely we are not naming 4 keepers?

Re: Scott Carson
He’s had a different Burnley goalkeeper story virtually every week recently. I think the only certainty we have is that Lindegaard is the only one out of contract.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Nixon’s certainly using our goalkeeping “issue” to fill some column inches.

A more than decent career with nearly 500 professional games at championship and above.
If we get a good fee for (or a very good loan deal) Pope. Get Hart off the wage bill and maybe even a fee. He would be fine.

Re: Scott Carson
Sounds like a complete crackpot plan to me, if it is true.
We sell two perfectly good keepers. Hart who did okay for us and Nick who is arguably the top young keeper in the country. Nick has the potential to significantly increase in value and he has a complete understanding of what we are about and how we play. The squad did well with him between the sticks. Hart has had a full season with us to gain a level of understanding.
So the cracker jack idea is to dispense with all that valuable understanding and bring in a keeper who didn't seem happy playing second fiddle to Roos at Derby and couldn't do enough to displace him. A player who is one of the highest wage earners at Derby with a season left on his contract, meaning that we would have to pay a healthy sum to sign him up. Not forgetting that he isn't anywhere near as good as Nick or Joe which would weaken us.
So if the plan is successful we start the season with a keeper that is unfamiliar to us, not as good as the ones who have left, unhappy at playing second fiddle to Tom, on high wages and Derby are the recipients of a healthy cash boost. Not to mention that the value of Carson will only go down.
I'm with jdrobbo in thinking that keeping Nick and bringing in a younger understudy is a far better idea. Max O'Leary could do well for us or Joe Lumley from cash strapped QPR.
We could possibly get Lumley and Eze in some form of part exchange for Nahki.
No, wait a minute, I've just had a ridiculous and completely crazy idea. Why don't we get Kelle Roos from Derby instead.
You know, the bloke who kept Carson out of the Derby squad. If he doesn't sign a new contract with Derby then he will be available on a free contract. Should they fail to win promotion in the second leg of the playoofs I dare say we would have a very good chance of prising him away from them.
Lets sign Carson FFS, I'm hoping Nixon is whistling in the wind and he has completely lost the plot. If it's serious then we are going to have to put aside some of our transfer funds to buy ammunition. An ongoing strategy of shooting ourselves in the foot is going to take plenty of shotgun shells.

Tom out of contract end of next season and will be 34, doesn't make sense with Carson....keep Pope for me.

Nick Pope is 27. Forget the "he is a young keeper", he needs to be playing every week. If it isn't here, it must be somewhere else.Long Time Lurker wrote:Nick who is arguably the top young keeper in the country.

I may have missed something, but do we know why Pope hasn't at least featured on the bench as opposed to Hart who is supposedly definitely going?
