Thought he had an OK game, by his standards, and refused to be conned by Ashley Barnes who had one of those "I'll fall down and claim a foul" days!

Not so sure what happened in the incident that saw Barnes carded but other than that, no problems at all.

The incident that saw Barnes carded was pretty shabby from Dean. For whatever reason Leno ran into the back of Barnes and barged him over. Dean clearly didn't see it, turned round and decided it must have been Barnes's fault and booked him.
The commentators were amazed that it wasn't a booking for Leno and a penalty.

Did he award us a free kick in the first half? Not sure how he yellow carded Barnes given he was running back to half way and looking the wrong way.

Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Arsenal
Very poor. He should have punished Leno but doesn’t have the bottle to do anything against a big six clubs. He just guessed and that’s one thing a ref should never do and decided to favour the bigger side because that will appease the FA and the people who run football (Sky). Shows how poor the standard of referring in this country is when they don’t see things so just randomly book random players.
Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Arsenal
The assistants conveniently never see these incidents either, or should I say they love to pretend they haven't. I'd like too see it on tv first but it looked like a clear push by their keeper.aggi wrote:The incident that saw Barnes carded was pretty shabby from Dean. Happy to book Clarets only. No pen for Burnley.
Just another referee.

Just seen the replay of the Barnes booking. Presumably next season with VAR that would result in a penalty?

Total shite as were his linos.Ignored a blatant penalty when Ash was hauled down and then booked Ash.
Multiple Arsenal fouls went unpunished.
Allround a very weak performance l

Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Arsenal
After Heatons yellow cars a guy came down from the directors box with an IPad and showed something to the 4th official.
4th official straight away touched his headphone and began I assume to speak to the Ref.
Clearly I have no idea what it was about, positive or negative for Burnley but surely that’s not right. Whatever it was would influence the referee for just 1 incident in the game.

Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Arsenal
Barnes was targeted by Arsenal, they presumed that he was going to rough them up, so decided to rough him up first.
They were very clever and did it when Dean had a poor view, or blind sided, but the linesman on the Longside should have seen them as clearly as we did. He was shocking.

Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Arsenal
Dean the "Big I am" show .
Leno at the very least yellow - could argue for a straight red as he assaulted Ashley who rightly complained and their defender also should have gone in the book for manhandling Ashley too. Definite penalty - not given so every Burnley fan knew we wouldn't see anything like fair reffing Join the long line of refs Dean who don't apply the rules unless its against Burnley.
Fluffy head got a booking for an obscene gesture. So easy to give once Arsenal had scored.

Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Arsenal
It was a clear penalty but Dean would have had to rely on his linesman who conveniently disappeared entirely for the duration of the incident instead of flagging for a penalty.
Penalty and yellow card for their keeper is the only possible decision for anyone who saw the incident properly.

Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Arsenal
If the ball was not in play and I thought the ball was out for a GK then no penalty could be awarded. Red and yellow cards yes but free kicks and penalties -they cannot be awarded is my interpretation of the laws of the game.

The ball was in play, the keeper had it in his hands.mdd2 wrote:If the ball was not in play and I thought the ball was out for a GK then no penalty could be awarded. Red and yellow cards yes but free kicks and penalties -they cannot be awarded is my interpretation of the laws of the game.

Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Arsenal
That's not how the commentators saw it. The ball was in play throughout the incident. To be fair, Dean couldn't have seen Leno shove Barnes. Presumably he blew up for a "foul" by Barnes in the incident that ensued, and at that point the ball was "out of play".mdd2 wrote:If the ball was not in play and I thought the ball was out for a GK then no penalty could be awarded. It's possible that Dean booked Barnes for dissent. If he booked him for the "handbags" that followed Leno's shove then it was a pretty poor decision, because there were several players jostling.
4th official could probably have helped Dean out, but it was Lee Mason!

Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Arsenal
Think it has all been explained that Dean didn't see it and went off the advice of the assistant who got it all horribly wrong. Quite how the flag waver didn't see the pen is beyond me.nil_desperandum wrote:That's not how the commentators saw it. The ball was in play throughout the incident.
