Thats what you get for having 4 defenders take your penalties
Dyche will be rubbing his hands now ready for a bid for players not even good enuf for championship

Re: Bid for Jay then?
Not sure why people would be against Jay. He’s scored 20+ in the league lower, he’s versatile in that he can play on the left or slightly deeper and he would be affordable.
I imagine WBA will need to sell him this summer, we will clearly be interested. Vydra might be something we could offer in exchange.

I'd take Jay, but the price would have to be right.

I'd rather give Vydra a chance than sign Jay Rod

Re: Bid for Jay then?
In my opinion he wouldn’t be worth while signing . A couple of years ago yes, but he struggled yesterday with the intensity and with the way we play he wouldn’t last. We need better and younger . Vydra has to be used next season much more. Pre-season will be ideal to use a few new shapes in order to change a game etc, Hope Vydra proves his worth. But as for Jay - ship has sailed

No from me, be we invariably will end up making bids for both.

Re: Bid for Jay then?
With the emergence of McNeil plus Brady, we no longer need another left sided player
McNeil has saved us whatever Jrod would have cost, allowing us to use that money in other areas.

Stick a bid in of 4m day the window opens, normally gets the bedwetters frothing if nothing else, and with no World cup this summer they can pass as entertainment.

Re: Bid for Jay then?
After what West Brom have done to us over the years in regards to transfers, I'd offer them £1 and a king size twix...
Shame for Jay Rod though, he's past his best in terms of what he could have offered us - 2 season back - yes; now - no.

I’d say no, though still only 29 maybe 2 good seasons left . It would have to be a very good price, though don’t think he offers a lot more than Ash Barnes

Re: Bid for Jay then?
He had a very serious injury which is possibly one of the reasons why Southampton shipped him out. If I remember rightly for a mere £12 million.
If the club do sign him it should be for around that fee and a short two year deal.

Re: Bid for Jay then?
Depends what Dyche wants.
If he wants a replacement for Vokes as an alternative target man option who could play with either Wood or Barnes and add a bit more subtlety, then Jay is as good an option this summer as he was last.
If Dyche wants a totally different option to the main two, then Jay won't be that man.
History suggests Dyche will want a genuine target man option on the bench who is taller than Barnes and better at the link up game than Wood. However, our problem is going to be that Jay like most established options will want game time - which we can't guarantee given the performances of Barnes and Wood. Which is why Dyche is probably tempted to retain Crouch to play that role.

Re: Bid for Jay then?
Jay would be an decent squad player IF we could get him cheap enough (won't happen) and provided Crouch leaves.
IF Vydra remains and is in the plans though then I'd prefer to see a younger player brought into the squad as 4th striker whether that be a purchase or from our youth setup.

Not for me. He'll probably cost around the same as Che Adams and I'd much sooner have him instead.

Not seen Jay play in a while, he looked on the heavy side and a bit cumbersome last night.

Re: Bid for Jay then?
If the manager wants one or both of them, then fine. Prices will have come down, due to a year of contracts having elapsed. Go in with a first, and final offer. If they accept, great. If not, move swiftly on.
Re: Bid for Jay then?
It looks to me like Jay has had a very decent if not spectacular season given his Premiership credentials. There are a fair few penalties in his overall goal count and hasn't Dwight Gayle outscored him overall?
It looks to me like we might be after a younger and quicker option - one that fits a profile of potential sell on value, for which I do not think there would be for Jay if we went for him.

Re: Bid for Jay then?
I just don’t see how at present either player fits in. Age is against both of them- we need to decrease our average squad age not maintain/increase it. We have plenty of PL experience now so that isn’t relevant to them. We have both of their positions covered already with the formation we currently play.
If Dyche is looking to change the formation somewhat (3-5-2) then perhaps you can make a case for Dawson on the ground that we need another right footed CB- this allows us to get Dune out for another year on loan at Championship level and develop there and not risk us being short there (especially if we get a silly money offer for Tarkowski; which i suspect we will).
Similarly for Jay; a change of formation might allow us to fit him into a front three and he is different to what we currently have.
I don’t think that we can spend (1) too much time and (2) too much money on trying to pry them from West Brom if we are going to attempt to sign them. We have to simply tell West Brom how much we’re prepared to pay and then be willing to walk away if they don’t want to play ball. The only things in our favour are that West Brom haven’t come back up this year, they’re definitely a club in transition and will find it hard to come back up next season, and that both Jay and Dawson may wish to force a move to a PL club (especially a NW based club as they’re both local lads) rather than wasting another season in the Championship.

Re: Bid for Jay then?
I think it will happen. £10 million bid with J Rod accepting a reduction in wages to 50k a week. Good player at that price.
Re: Bid for Jay then?
Sadly, I think the timeframe has passed. Would have loved him back, for Europe.

Re: Bid for Jay then?
He’s had very few poor matches, whenever I’ve watched Baggies.
He still moves better than Wood or Barnes and he has a better first touch.
You can’t compare him to Gayle, as he has been their line leading CF and Jay has done the donkey work around him.
If Crouch gets another year it’s not happening. If not it's a no-brainer if the figures make sense.

Re: Bid for Jay then?
unless Rigg has experience of dealing with the Baggies suits then they aren't worth dealing with! didn't they change their chief exec but was this after our last bid or not?
Re: Bid for Jay then?
Seems to be a weird misconception that it’s West Brom who aren’t worth dealing with.
Last summer it’s my understanding that they set a very clear fee that they would allow Rodriguez to leave for, and they stuck by it.
It wasn’t them, it was us. We’re the ones who aren’t worth dealing with

Wonder what the odds are on SGr being able to find a way to blame us for just about everything

Think Birmingham also did the same with AdamsSGr wrote:Seems to be a weird misconception that it’s West Brom who aren’t worth dealing with.

Why won't these clubs , let us have their better players on the cheap?
It's just not fair!
Think Dyche has it right when he said, its our club/board that maybe need to stretch the parameters a little more...

Other than Grealish who is way outside our budget the only player on the pitch last night that I thought was very good was Holgate who was on loan to WBA from Everton, played right back........

Re: Bid for Jay then?
Wouldn't want Jay back at Burnley, Dwight Gale would be a much better option, and i would deffo go after Matt Phillips if the price wasn't too extortionate, Dawson isn't that good so i would leave well alone.
