Staff at Turnstiles

Post by damo_whitehead » Wed May 15, 2019 2:36 pm

Just wondering why when I go through the turnstiles, I have to hand my card to someone to scan it for me... am I not capable of doing it myself? Don't they trust us?

Not for one second am I trying to get people out of a job, but couldn't they become "supervisors" where they maybe have someone each side of the turnstile (1 per section) to help people who appear to be struggling etc?

Just seems a waste of resources when they could probably be more useful elsewhere?

Especially when they dont cross reference the name or sex of the person entering.

I think that was established early on to be irrelevant as long as the correct category of season card was being used

I don't think the card readers are linked to the turnstiles. It seems that the person behind the turnstile still has to press a peddle to unlock the turnstile once the card reader says 'ENTER'.

I do not go to a football match to be sexually cross referenced, I'll have you know. It sounds disgusting .

They would benefit from some basic customer service training.

I think it’s just for the counting of the attendance to be done by computer instead if using the braindead population of Burnley to count.

Really?? My nephew (8 years old) got stopped from entering the ground on Sunday using his Grandad's card who was unwell and couldn't attend. Both concessions...

We can afford to employ one operator per turnstile since the profit on the sale of each twix employs one person for the afternoon. :D

Yes, so the incorrect category - unless you missed a 0 after the 8 in your nephews age.

I don't think they would have a legal basis for stopping anyone based on their apparent physical sexuality.
If you want to continue going on dressed as a man, then they have no right to challenge you.

I think that’s the case so there has to be someone there. Still not sure why you can’t scan your own card though.

It was confirmed by the club ages ago that season ticket cards can be used by another person who would fall within the same pricing category. So my missus could use my season ticket legitimately and without any questions being asked.

My sister uses my season when I am on Holiday she is actually a senior and has never been questioned.

I don’t think they would be that bothered about concessions (seniors/children) using an adult ticket.

My 4yo nephew has used mine a few times this season with know issues

It would be more of an issue and adult using a concessions ticket

Even though he was in a different category to his Grandad seems a bit tight to refuse him entry when they are both concessions anyway :-(

Without the clunking turnstiles it just wouldn’t be the same walking in for me. It’s very satisfying going through them.

A simple smile would be a pleasant start, perhaps a brief "enjoy the game".

Is that too much to ask?

I've had a "thanks, enjoy the game" off the turnstile staff a few times to be fair, but maybe they were just being polite to their elders :)

Have heard of a season card holder not been admitted as it said the card had already been used for that game (JHU) but in the end he was just let through as in reality it would be quite tricky to use a card and then get it back outside. Saw it myself before the city game . I always give my card with barcode face up so this shouldn't happen.

As mentioned above I still think it needs a foot on the pedal to allow access through the turnstiles. This season the staff on the turnstiles have been polite and actually put there foot on the pedal rather than let you slam into the locked metal bars.

So reading through the reason, the only reason is so they can press the button to allow the turnstile to move?

I haven't noticed, but I assume fully automated stadiums are automatically unlocked when the ticket is scanned? We aren't going to do that though are we! Similar to my recent post about contactless payment

I may be wrong, but I think they do have contactless payment in the CF stand, at the outside catering kiosk.

There was a big thread about this a while back that I started. They did that as a trial apparently and said it didn't work so end of that

Hi Vintage, yes they did let him in. But only after the turnstile operator closed his turnstile and got his supervisor. Luckily, his supervisor saw sense.

We nearly always get a "thank you and enjoy the game" at the Bob Lord turnstiles.

No complaints from me in that regard.

Normally on entering the CFS you get some banter or "enjoy the game" comment with the operatives.

This Sunday however my 18 yr. old son was name and sex checked whilst using his 21 yr. old sister's card.
Same surname as both myself and his sister.

Why?
Why not just make everyone feel welcome? As long as the correct price for entry appears to have been paid.

also get that in the CFS, very polite in turnstile 46, and it's a different person nearly everytime.
although it's usually, "thank you and enjoy the game, with your soggy feet" ( joke )

As far as i'm aware you can pass the card on to someone else as long as they are the same pricing category or lower.

So an Adult using an Adult card is fine, as is a Junior (U16) using a Senior Citizen's card but not an Adult using a child's etc etc.

So he shouldn't have been stopped.

The issue with that is a 6ft 15 year old using an OAP ticket when he looks about 20. He has every right to expect the steward/turnstile operator to question the fact.

I think the electronic turnstile system is a premier league ground requirement. Obviously we took the view that the mechanical turk option was cheaper than full automation.

Ive had a " Thanks , enjoy the game " a time or two. It always makes me cast my mind back to the 80s when such a comment would have been construed as somewhat sarcastic
