Re: Tarks out of England Squad
Yet Gomez is? Its an absolute joke.
Re: Tarks out of England Squad
Why does Ben Mee never get called up?
Re: Tarks out of England Squad
Might help keep him at BFC for a bit longer.

Some of Southgate’s decisions are baffling at times.

Re: Tarks out of England Squad
We have conceded far too many goals to have an international in the defence.

Re: Tarks out of England Squad
Southgate must think Gomez has deserved his call up, based on his 1 start (Barca 3-0) and five substitute appearances since returning - in which he came on in the 66th, 86th, 88th, 85th and 84th minutes.

Re: Tarks out of England Squad
Think it's fair to say Tarks hasn't been as consistent this season. He's had good spells in most games but not over 90 minutes. Certainly better last season IMO.

Heaton has done alright but England are poor for keepers at the moment.claretonthecoast1882 wrote:Yet happy enough to pick the goalkeeper ?
Butland getting picked from middle of the championship proves that.

So Tarks is down to better defenders then not goals conceded ?

Re: Tarks out of England Squad
When I've seen Gomez which hasn't obviously been a lot this season I haven't seen whatever Gareth has seen. I'm not sure I rate him. Tarks may have been inconsistent at times this season but how the hell do you pick someone who's hardly played over Tarks. If someone had been hugely consistent and/or had a good season then fair enough.

Does Southgate know that Ben Mee is English?

I might be in the minority here but i don't think Tarks is anywhere near England class.

Re: Tarks out of England Squad
For Maddison not to be picked after the season he has had seems very odd. As we all know, it’s not how you play of even if you play, it’s who you play for.
Re: Tarks out of England Squad
Hasn't hit the heights he did last season but was a massive player for us post boxing day, as were all the back four/five and Heaton. Hopefully he'll still be around in August to start our new season alongside Mee, Taylor and Lowts/Bards/New signing

Re: Tarks out of England Squad
Not been as consistent this season and his distribution has been off especially those 40yd crossfield balls that usually ended up in the stands
Southgate has been watching him enough this season to make a reasoned decision.
Gomez was of course attacked whilst on the pitch by Mee , so can understand Southgate wanting to see more of him this summer
Delph and Dier are way off the standard required

He hasn't been picked because the under 21s have a tournament this summer.thelaughingclaret wrote:For Maddison not to be picked after the season he has had seems very odd. As we all know, it’s not how you play of even if you play, it’s who you play for.

Gomez has hardly played this season, to pick him above Tarky is a joke on that basis alone.

I thought Gomez was pretty impressive playing alongside Van Dijk. He seemed to work better then Matip and much better then Lovren.

If Tarks and Mee were called up, we'd have folk asking `what about Taylor?'
Re: Tarks out of England Squad
I'd disagree, not seen enough of him to make a valid argument though.jrgbfc wrote:But football wise he's head and shoulders above Tarkowski.
Re: Tarks out of England Squad
I'd say Gomez slotting into the Liverpool and England teams at such a young age and not putting a foot wrong suggests he's far better than Tarkowski. If Mee and Tarks were playing for say, Southampton would people on here still be calling for them to be in the England squad?
Re: Tarks out of England Squad
A fully fit Gomez is so much better than Tarks.

Tarks is a class defender and far better than Gomez.
But the media pick England teams and love Liverpool players.Henderson is awful but gets selected for every squad

Re: Tarks out of England Squad
I mean based on your reasoning Alexander-Arnold is better than Kyle Walker? I rate AA but he had an absolute shocker in the game against us later this season so I guess how do you judge the form of a youngster? My point with Gomez missing a large portion of the season is the only valid point really, based on number of games I'd have taken Tarky over Gomez.

England play out from the back, whilst Ben Mee is a brilliant defender, watching him in possession is absolutely excruciating - he's woeful with the ball.karatekid wrote:Does Southgate know that Ben Mee is English?

The centre halves selected are better than ours. I’m still glad we’ve got them though.

Odd selections throughout - Winks, Wilson, Rice - not sure any of are International class.

Delph is a very good player who, when fit, is often picked by one of the best managers in the world to play in one of the best teams in the world.

Re: Tarks out of England Squad
From a Burnley point of view I'm happy to hear this, selfish I know.
Taking into account his playing time with us Tarks has been on the go for a long time. He played the majority of last season ( including the Europa ), before that he was involved in the England set up and had an operation, prior to that he played another full season.
The lad could do with a rest to recharge his batteries and enjoy his life outside of football in the company of his family and friends. We will benefit from that next season.
I would have liked Mee to get a look in though. After a slow start he has been excellent for us, especially in the last few games. His distribution is also showing improvement.

probably because he is a liability with all his diving and cheating. Re: Tarks out of England Squad
Rice, Winks and Gomez are all excellent young players who he wants to take a look at clearly, and given their ability I don't see why it's such a baffling decision at all. Will Gomez start in the middle or will Stones, Maguire/Keane and Walker? Is it that weird to have a 21 year old breaking through at Liverpool in the squad?
He's had a good look at Tarkowski and for now doesn't think he's quite up to it at that level. I tend to agree.

Re: Tarks out of England Squad
I wouldn't be that dissapointed if I was JT. Southgate is looking at all options which I think he should be doing as England Manager so there's plenty of opportunity for James to get back in the squad. He's not been consistent enough this season but he'll know that himself. He can now get a well earned rest and come back feeIing stronger than ever.
