How to fix a modern training shoe
How to fix a modern training shoe
I spent £55 on a pair of black Nike trainers, it says trainer on the label and it is the model most like a football trainer used to be.
In the olden days they were leather and tough and then they were plastic and tough and now they are designed to last a few weeks.
They are covered in a black lacy fabric that I presumed to be some sort of high-tech carbon-fibre type stuff. However, they really do have the durability of the equivalent of thin black lacy fabric instead of tough leather.
After a month of moderate use, a small hole appeared. in the top. My toe nail had incised it.
Tip 1. Keep your toe nails trim and with no sharp edges to stop them knifing the trainer innards.
To stop the damage going any further, I glued with superglue a black bicycle tyre patch on the inside of the shoe and they've been OK since and the hole is no longer visible. I've saved £50 on a new pair of trainers.
It's a fiddly operation to have superglue on one side of the patch and to move it on a finger to the required place. The glue dries very quickly so I had to try it twice.
Hope this is of use.

Re: How to fix a modern training shoe
Thanks pstotto for this invaluable tip.
I had to throw away a pair of cheap trainers only yesterday.
My tip for trainers is this - buy two cheap pairs instead of one expensive pair. They're likely to cost half the price but will last twice as long. By having two identical pairs you can trick people into thinking your trainers are lasting longer than they actually are.
The only problem I have is whether to wear them alternately or to wear out a pair fully then switch?
Any advice on this matter will be gratefully received.

Why don't you wear the left from one pair A and the right from pair B?Rowls wrote:Thanks pstotto for this invaluable tip.

Then next time, wear the right from pair A and the left from pair B
That way each pair would last twice as long again

Thank you for this excellent idea wilks.
I'm designing a (quite literally) revolutionary shoe-rack to aid me in this endeavour.

Wear one pair for a year to induce a certain amount of knackeredness. Then wear one old trainer with one new trainer in a bid to convince people that you have a prosthetic leg.Rowls wrote:Thanks pstotto for this invaluable tip.

You can still get leather I use Pumas mainly because they seem to be the widest of all the makes I looked at when I bought them (my feet are a bit on the wide side).Pstotto wrote:I spent £55 on a pair of black Nike trainers, it says trainer on the label and it is the model most like a football trainer used to be.

It's also surprising that some people still don't know that if you buy cheap you usually end up buying twice, and before any smart arse says anything about that Pumas because they are made of leather do take a wile to soften up and mould to your feet.
Re: How to fix a modern training shoe
I bought Primark slippers for £4 and they lasted literally a day. I was going to kick them around outside the shop but it's all security managed. Instead I bought a pair in M & S for £28 and they are still going strong six months later, so Rowls is a bit of a false economist.
What Puma trainers did you buy and where from? I haven't seen that in SD or the trendy trainer shops.

Why don't you select hopping as your preferred mode of transport ?Rowls wrote:Thanks pstotto for this invaluable tip.

For example, left leg hop for two hours... Then right leg hop for two hours and so on.
Your trainers will last twice as long.
Or even better... Learn to walk doing hand-stands. Your trainers will be in pristine condition and last forever more.

. always checks the bottom of trainers before purchase to look at the tread. He is still horrified from an incident over 20 years ago when he was trying to get dog **** off the bottom of a Puma King trainer.

1. I would suggest getting a tough pair of socks if you have toe nails going through your trainers.
2. I believe Dave Burnley knows a bit about keeping trainers going! As well as denim jackets.

Anybody over the age of 20 who wears trainers as casual wear is a sad gherkin jerker, FACT.

Once of a day trainers were worn to play sport now they are ridiculous overpriced fashion statements. Trainers in those days wouldnt be breeched by a four inch round head nail let alone a big toe.

Re: How to fix a modern training shoe
Buy just one pair, and one of the walking machines from the footwear research place in Northampton.
Simply wear the pair for everything, and on retiring to bed attach them to the lasts on the walking simulater and set it to a fast heavy walking pace.
on rising switch the machine off and put the trainers back on your feet, and go about your business.
Today's flimsy trainers will disintegrate after 2 weeks of this regime, after which you return them to the shop along with receipt indicating date of purchase.
Receive your replacement pair and repeat the procedure.

I think this topic in the future may become an exhibit of the early Pstotto period, a bit like Leonardo da Vinci with his interest in all kinds of practical things. Obviously LDV did not encounter rubber moulded footwear.

There were plans for a conduit to be built in Israel, taking water from the Mediterranean down to the Dead Sea. The idea is to use hydro power plants to generate electricity and then use it to purify the water to be used for drinking water. I don't know if it ever happened.Pstotto wrote:Hydro-electric drains, that's my next big idea.
Re: How to fix a modern training shoe
Not sure how household etc. waste disposal works, flushing water etc. but if there's a force involved then it's energy v. transit and where that would taker place, either in the home or further on, drain pipes on a house for instance in all that northern rainy weather. In equatorial climates there's a deluge once a day that could generate electricity also by surface pressure, monsoon pressure pads etc. Alpine snow as well.

Moving on from our agreement in so many words, I'm sure you're interested in the third world having new blue technology and also the developed nations.
