He is a top top player..no doubt at all about that and has been wherever he has played. Won the game singlehanded today.
Relegation battle Suffering a crisis of confidence..not a crisis of class...as much as you would like to think it that way. Don't kid yourself..Smit won that. Rammy will win the league though in my opinion.

Isn't that what you pay your pro for? To win you the game?Somethingfishy wrote:He is a top top player..no doubt at all about that and has been wherever he has played. Won the game singlehanded today.

What is all this "your" nonsense. Here's me thinking it is a team game. Money well paid today though admittedly.Local cricketer wrote:Isn't that what you pay your pro for? To win you the game?

Re: Lowerhouse v Burnley Cricket Rivalry
I didn't read Matt Walkers tweets last night, but the spat will of started from Reads chairman AT congratulating a Lowerhouse batsman on scoring a ton in the two's, and making it out that they would like to sign him next year.
Lowerhouse's mob will of been upset that they tweeted if from the official club account and it's not the done thing. They will insult the club and mention pie and pea league. (Standard response from the last 100 years).
AT isn't bothered and will try to sign him again and anyone else from Lowerhouse he can speak to.

Re: Lowerhouse v Burnley Cricket Rivalry
Pretty much that haha. It crossed a line a little for me with the open expression of wanting to sign the player from a club account. Personal account, fair enough, but official accounts shouldn't be posting that imo.Quickenthetempo wrote:I didn't read Matt Walkers tweets last night, but the spat will of started from Reads chairman AT congratulating a Lowerhouse batsman on scoring a ton in the two's, and making it out that they would like to sign him next year.

If a lad is only making the 2nds down the house and Read are offering him 1st team cricket surely it's in the lads interests to think about it. You never know a couple off years down the line lowerhouse sign him back and he is a better player for the experience

No argument there, in theory at least, however such a tweet from an official club account? Not the right way of doing things for me.Local cricketer wrote:If a lad is only making the 2nds down the house and Read are offering him 1st team cricket surely it's in the lads interests to think about it. Let’s hope the House players took defeat better than those of Burnley CC after last season,s Worsley defeat when a few of them put their trophies in the bin.

I’ve put runners up medals in the bin in the past, I wouldn’t do it in front of everyone though.Lord Rothbury wrote:Let’s hope the House players took defeat better than those of Burnley CC after last season,s Worsley defeat when a few of them put their trophies in the bin.

Matt Walker has hit a half century for the Ribb league 20/20 side in the Inter league competition.
He's probably the best player Lowerhouse have produced from their famous youth set up in recent times.

He demoted Matt Walker from pro to captain so he could bring a Zimbabwe international player in as pro.
Citing an injury that will prevent him bowling to his full potential.
Matt has since bowled more than other player in the team, including the new pro.
More front than Blackpool.
He does a lot for Read though to be fair.

That's fine and a very valid point, but surely it shouldn't be being done "in public". I think that's the issue tbh.Local cricketer wrote:If a lad is only making the 2nds down the house and Read are offering him 1st team cricket surely it's in the lads interests to think about it. Re: Lowerhouse v Burnley Cricket Rivalry
Bit late posting on this I know (been away for a few days). But couldn't resist!
Yes, there was some rivalry, certainly at the time I played for the House (early 1970s). Looking back we weren't the best of teams and to be honest, I didn't add much either. But I can clearly remember the game in May 1971 at the Turf when we beat Burnley by 4 wickets. They went from 61 for 5 to 61 all out. Their pro was Harold 'Chucker' Rhodes. Not often did we have 'bragging rights' but this was one to cherish!!

Stott then, bats 11 and wicket less so fits the "didn't improve them" much admission.

Re: Lowerhouse v Burnley Cricket Rivalry
Played more games for the first team than I thought during 1970/71/72. Jack Stott shared the opening bowling. Always a number 11 batsman - he came out with his bat on his shoulder as if it was going to club everyone.

Re: Lowerhouse v Burnley Cricket Rivalry
Jack Stott became a director at Burnley Cricket Club but he passed away a good number of years ago. His grandson Dean Stott was in our youth team just over a decade or so ago.
I think I've worked it who it is just from looking at the list of names and knowing who it can't be.
