I noticed Leicester’s Ngidi playing earlier for SA. Is he the first top flight footballer in a cricket WC?

I think the last player to achieve that was Arthur Lipton who played cricket for Gloucestershire and football for Arsenal.

Brian McKechie and Jeff Wilson, in the 1980's & 1990's played for both the All Black's and New Zealand cricket ...
McKechnie was the recipient of the famous " underarm " ball, bowled by Trevor Chappell in 1981 .....

Alan Wharton (former Colne amateur cricketer) played professional rugby league (Salford, I think) and cricket (Lancashire and Leicestershire; also one Test Match).

Did the lad Keith Barker from Enfield not manage it?
He was on Rovers books and maybe Preston and played cricket for Warwickshire recently.

Nearest I've seen in recent years is Leighton James playing for Burnley CC at Lowerhouse. Naturally we gave him some stick.

Re: Last top flight footballer to play in Cricket World Cup?
Steve Ogrizovic played for Shropshire (Minor Counties) and obviously Coventry and Liverpool, etc.
Simon Grayson's brothers were a professional rugby player and a pro cricketer. Think his dad might have been a pro cricketer too... my dad played with him for the Yorkshire CC Over 50's.
Joe Hart is apparently a pretty good cricketer. I won't make the joke about him just needing to be a pro footballer too... actually think he's a good goalkeeper (just not as good as Tom!)
