Re: ARTICLE: Find our best players from the last decade
I think some of the votes will have clear cut winners, some of the others won't.
I think I've decided to go for 4-4-2 and have subsequent votes for:
1. Right Back
2. Left Back
3. Central Defenders (2 votes each)
4. Central Midfield (2 votes each)
5. Wide Midfield (2 votes each)
6. Strikers (2 votes each)

---------------------------------- Grant -----------------------------
Eckersley ------------ Edgar -------- Bikey --------------- Easton
Hines -------- Bartley ----------------- McDonald --------- McQuoid
----------------- Delfounso ---------------- Nimani -------------------
There's a team that could strike fear into most out there.

TBH, I was surprised at how difficult it was to think of "bad" players.
Even those I've listed above, most had successful professional careers at some level of the game. Centre back and goalkeepers was particularly difficult - we've been very blessed in these positions.

I can confirm that only five of those players will feature, the other six didn't play (or turn out) often enough.Rowls wrote:---------------------------------- Grant -----------------------------

Surprised it is such the 1 horse race it is.
Not seen a goal keeper have such a great debut season at such a high level, turning in many great displays ending in our best season in generations.
Evidently Tom's consistency and length of time between the sticks , will trump Nick's wonder season.
I thought Itd not even be that result, never mind by such a distance.

Heaton gets the vote as he has done it for longer, but Pope performed at a higher level for me.
He was outstanding.

Re: ARTICLE: Find our best players from the last decade
This was exactly my thought. Although Pope was amazing and I would like to see him back in next season (if he can reproduce that form), Tom has consistently performed at a fantastic level for a long period and is also a leader.Quickenthetempo wrote:Heaton gets the vote as he has done it for longer, but Pope performed at a higher level for me.

Yes, I agree , but surprised it's not even close.Quickenthetempo wrote:Heaton gets the vote as he has done it for longer, but Pope performed at a higher level for me.

I went with Pope as believe he is and will be the better GK, and his displays last season were the best single season I've seen from any on that list. With all things considered it's very impressive.
Re: ARTICLE: Find our best players from the last decade
I don't think it is going to be easy this. We've had some great player in the last 10 years.
The central defenders could be difficult, but as for strikers/forwards, we've had some crackers over the last 10 years.

I always expected it to be Tom in front but surprised it’s by such a margin.

Re: ARTICLE: Find our best players from the last decade
Heaton was an obvious choice for me when you take into account he has done it for 4 or 5 seasons whereas Pope has only had 1 good season.
Re: ARTICLE: Find our best players from the last decade
And where are you putting Ben mee?
We could have a squad of 10 with Mee at CH and LB!!!!!!!

CT, as this thread is going to keep bumping to the top could you put the position after “decade” in the thread title. Unless you are opening a fresh thread for each position?
