Will Maguire push up Tarkowski's value?

Post by Spijed » Mon Jun 10, 2019 5:30 pm

If reports are to be believed Leicester city want £90 million for Maguire.

If that's the case then surely we could ask more for Tarkowski than the £30 million that he seems to be currently valued at, if and when he gets sold.

As for Magure's value, it shows what an absolute bargain VVD is turning out to be at Liverpool for £75 million as he is a class above any of England's centre-halves.

If anyone pays 90 million for Maguire the world has gone mad. Leicester can afford to ask for silly money because they've no need to sell. Only problem is if Maguire has his head turned and threatens to down tools.
But to answer your original question no, I can't see anyone paying more than 30 million tops for Tarkowski.

Who is it that's valued Tarky at £30m?

Harry Maguire isn’t worth £90m in this market, whether that be an inflated one or not. Even with the English premium, there are some much better centre halves on the market for the top clubs.

Think it's just people plucking a figure out of the air tbh. Or using the fee Keane went to Everton for, I personally think Tarks is nowhere near as good as Keane, but that's just my humble opinion.

The value of any player nowadays is dictated not by ability, but by who wants to buy him. Bonkers, innit?

If Maguire goes for £90m, then we should be asking for £50m for Tarky as a minimum.

I think he's completely overrated. Like myself and a poster agreed on the other day, he's brilliant when attacking set-pieces, but dodgy af when defending. Not convinced at all. It's almost like his performance for England last summer is the only reason for that fee.

Watch Gomez at Liverpool when he gets more games. He'll be an England starter soon enough. A brilliant defender.

If they even thinking of spending that much on big head, then I would switch n buy de Ligt instead, miles better defender, quicker n only 19..

I'm not sure how true it is, but I heard his release fee is 50m with his new deal that he signed.

Brentford are asking 30 million for one of their wingers if the gossip columns are correct so Tarks with England caps and a few years in the PL must be worth 50 in the crapshoot nonsense that is football

I'd put Keane way above him but that Keane deal was two years ago and prices have gone up a lot since then.

Gibson is ready and waiting if/when he does leave. Someone I rate and will fit in with ease, just as Keane did and just as T did.

Personally, I think it's a myth. If you're a good defender you can use both feet.

Tarkowski is better than Keane was when he left and the market is even more ridiculous now than it was then.

I agree with others, Tarkowski is a better defender than Keane. Does anyone remember how long Keane had left on his deal with us when he left? in the current market, £40M sounds fair for Tark.

We already have our replacement, in Gibson. We don't need a replacement for Tarks, we need a replacement for Gibson.

Two small left footed centre halves? not sure that would work tbh, I'm pretty sure Dyche used Long ahead of Gibson for that reason last season although I can't remember the exact game.

If Tarks stays I can see him having another purple patch in the run up to Christmas, constantly being called upon to defend and getting a lot of column inches written about him again. Roll on the 50m+ pricetag. But he's got to keep his head though, sometimes his temperament is his own worst enemy.

Well, he's 6ft 1. If you think that's small we'll agree to disagree.

It appears I rate people a lot of other people don't. :D

Not convinced with the left/right foot and central defenders. Sure, it could possibly come into account if you're splitting hairs, but a good defender can at least pass with their 'weaker' foot.

Either way, Frank, if we have £40million to spend, that money would likely only buy a player nearly as good as Tarkowski, not an improvement on him.

Something tells me our window is nearer £20 million than £40 million, but Gibson could very well be as good as Tarkowski. This is groundhog day as rewind and people were saying Tarkowski wasn't as good as Keane.

I rate Gibson, was delighted with the signing, he appears smaller than 6ft 1. It's weird I wouldn't even consider the strong foot argument with two right footers, it's just something about two left footers I don't think would work.

Difficult for a "wrong-footed" defender to show a player outside, KR.

I'm not convinced with the idea that Ben Mee can only play on the left side because of his silky skills with his left foot. I reckon he tackle anyone, anywhere, his positioning is fine, and he doesn't have Stones-like overconfidence so he knows how to play the ball to safety with either foot.

As for Gibson, I wouldn't know. But the idea of paying £15m for a player so precious that he can't move 15 yards to the right? Doesn't sound like Dyche to me. I think he'll be OK.

It's not just a matter of tackling and playing the ball with the wrong foot. It's also adjusting positioning from what you've been used to for the past ten years. Look at how Tarkowski struggles when he plays on the left.

Back to the original question, "will Maguire push up Tarkowski's value ?"

Most certainly if Maguire goes for big, big, money, and Leicester come sniffing, then of course we would be saying, "well you've just sold yours for £80M, and you think ours is good enough to replace him, so it's going to cost you at least £50M"

I know it might be difficult for the club and many on here to comprehend, but if we got £40m for Tarks, there are plenty of centre backs who would be willing to sign and be to the required standard to replace him from the continent and leave us with at least £20m in change.

That maybe so but we never seem to look to the continent. This is a local club for local people.

I genuinely think Maguire is just average
Tarkowski has also had a pretty average season - Plus I wouldn't put much between him and Keane.

However £90m for Maguire is outrageous. So who knows what Tarks is work... but as for the 'number plucked out of thin air', I think £30m is what a lot of people would accept for him.

Most defenders can stick either foot in, because that's all it is tbh.
It's the passing with both feet capably that some seem to struggle with.

If a defender can't show a player outside because they're so one footed then they shouldn't be at such a high level.
