USA v Thailand
USA v Thailand
BBC 4 showing complete ignorance of the offside rule. Saying the player was in line for the disallowed goal but she was in line with the LAST PLAYER, not the second last player, so she WAS offside!

Yeah I noticed that. Clear offside. As you say, not two members of the defending team between the striker and the goal...

Now they’re saying definite penalty when it was anything but.

The second one was, I wasn't concentrating when the first happened...
Re: USA v Thailand
I now think they were both penalties. The Thai full back pulled the American back by the arm. The second was just an obvious one so how VAR missed that I’ve no idea

Ya, Thailand are crap at footy, no need to run up the score like that!! Makes a mockery of the game!
Re: USA v Thailand
I played in a game at secondary school where we were winning 9-0 at half time. Their manager asked to stop the game and we got an absolute kicking for "humiliating" them.
I didn't agree then but I'm not so sure now.
In a world cup though with, I assume, a golden boot on offer etc, score as many as you can.

Just don't see the problem with a side trying to score as many goals as possible.

Totally disagree, " easing off " or " taking it easy " is patronising and shows lack of respect to your opponent in any sport, and this is a World Cup finals tournament ...exilecanada wrote:Ya, Thailand are crap at footy, no need to run up the score like that!! Makes a mockery of the game!

Qualification out the group could go down to goal difference.
What if USA got to 7 and thought “ok we ease off here”
Sweden & Chilli could both also score a shitload of goals against Thailand and the USA could be knocked out

I'm thinking makes a mockery to send a team that can't compete.exilecanada wrote: Makes a mockery of the game!
Maybe it's not Thailand's fault. Maybe FIFA wanted as many teams in the finals as they could get.
USA have put down a marker. I wonder if any team can score more.

I played in a Cup final against a Teds team that had John Mullin, Chris Casper and a couple of other lads that turned pro. We lost 16 -1 However we didn't bitch about it we got better, our next game against them the following season we lost 5-3 !!! That's what Thailand will need to doexilecanada wrote:Ya, Thailand are crap at footy, no need to run up the score like that!! Makes a mockery of the game!

I live in Thailand and the game is being conveniently unspoken of in the media.
Then again, this nation is not exactly well known for its transparent coverage of anything in world affairs, let alone anything that embarrasses them even slightly.

Re: USA v Thailand
What this rout showed is outwith about maybe 10 teams the depth in woman's football isn't available to make a competitive WC viable yet,the likes of South Korea,Jamaica and Thailand are just making up the numbers,it reminds you of the days when Zaire and Haiti played in the man's World Cup in the 70's,it just becomes a turkey shoot.

To be fair the Thai keeper was making her debut, as in the first time she has played.

To be fair the Thai keeper was only at fault for 1 of the goals. The rest she had no chance with

She looked to be a second behind in her decision making but Nick Pope couldn't have done too much behind that appalling team.
Re: USA v Thailand
Kind of confirms what a lot of people suspect about women's football - that it's a bit of a joke. Must also surely undermine the US team's demand to be paid the same as the men when the standard of competition is so mismatched.

Same for Men's football
Assuming the only game you were drawing conclusions from was Russia 9-0 San Marino in Saturday's Euro 2020 qualifier...

I assume you have completely ignored or at best, missed the rest of the world cup to come to that conclusion. Are you also saying that Rugby, Mens Football, Cricket, NFL, NBA, etc are jokes as well because you occasionally get a blowout result?Foulthrow wrote:Kind of confirms what a lot of people suspect about women's football - that it's a bit of a joke. Of course not.
