What standard of men's football would beat a top international women's team ?
Been watching bits of this women's World Cup and without being sexist the standard is p1ss poor.
Non league sides like Colne and Padiham would destroy a top women's team.
Any Premierleague/Championship under 18s teams would also muller them.
I'm also going to say a VERY good Sunday league team could beat them or give them a game.
I know there is the argument about if they played men would be stronger and too physical, but United, City, Chelsea under 16s who are not fully developed would in my opinion beat them.

I was having the same conversation last night.
I think a Sunday league junior side at about under 16s age group is about the level.

Personally I don't care about the standard,if the women give 100% and show a desire to succeed in a sport we all love then that will do me.

I heard somewhere recently that the Williams sisters in their prime were about at the level of the 280th ranked man.
So on that basis I declare that the ladies would be about at the 280th placed football team in the football pyramid. Something like Mangotsfield United maybe.

Mangotsfield would beat England Ladies because even at that low level they are better equipped physically.morpheus2 wrote:I heard somewhere recently that the Williams sisters in their prime were about at the level of the 280th ranked man.

I'm not watching it, neither did I watch that Nations Cup thing England were involved in last week.
I enjoy the three months close season. If football was twelve months a year, I'd get bored with it.

A team of lard-bellied 30 stone 60 year olds playing walking football would tear any women's team a new one without breaking sweat.

Certainly not our domestic cup first 11.

Depends on the professional attitude of the men a little and whether they allowed themselves to be distracted for a bit of afters in the showers.

Re: What standard of men's football would beat a top international women's team ?
The world's largest walking football club, Birmingham (where I play) has lots of women members and has just won the women's People's Cup (FA Cup equivalent). We have lots of women playing in the sessions I play and, because of the minimum contact, no over head height balls, no running rules the good ones are every bit as good as the majority of players. There are very few that I know of who manage to stay competitive with the 'elite' groups within each age group from which the club's representative teams are picked. But then, very few of the male players are capable of competing with those elite groups either!fatboy47 wrote:A team of lard-bellied 30 stone 60 year olds playing walking football would tear any women's team a new one without breaking sweat.

They did. Did you not see “Harry’s heroes” beating the Crystal Palace women’s team?fatboy47 wrote:A team of lard-bellied 30 stone 60 year olds playing walking football would tear any women's team a new one without breaking sweat.
To be fair though that’s only half the story. From the bits I’ve seen, it’s a lot more watchable than a lot of lower division football but the pace and physicality is noticeably absent- they hardly ever commit to a 50/50 challenge. Equally, there’s a lot less diving and play acting!

What ?
I couldnt give a flying wotsit what you think about this issue or anything else for that matter.
I'm just pointing out that if you don't like women's football or darts or snooker or whatever, don't watch it.
To make some snarky comment about someone who does, shows your low level of intelligence. Your teenage retort merely confirms it.
Grow up.

Gotta say, I never thought I’d say this, but I’m proper getting behind the lionesses.
Yes the standard when compared to the men’s game is lacking, but that doesn’t make it any less watchable. I’m liking it a lot at the moment. Certainly come on leaps and bounds in the last few years.
I’m enjoying it. Maybe more so because I’m not comparing it any longer with the men’s game.

Ex Lancashire Schoolgirl Keira Walsh (now Manchester City) has the Number 4 shirt in the England Squad.
By the way, Lancashire is the Top County for Schoolgirl Football in England.
Lancashire Under 14 Girls won the ESFA Inter-County Championship in 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and were finalists in 2019, 2017 and 2012 (the first year of the competition)

As questioned on one of the match threads - is it a different sport? I think it is. Different physicality results in different tactics and a different approach to the game. It’s daft to compare women’s football with mens, it is a different sport all together, albeit played on the same pitch with the same rules.
I’m enjoying the women’s World Cup because I recognise the difference.

Never understood the issue people take with things they don't enjoy, you aren't forced to sit and watch it. Seems a bit odd to watch something you don't enjoy for the sole purpose of finding things to cry about afterwards.
Football snobbery, incredible given we watch the worst style of play ever to play in the PL.

There's a few women playing in soccer aid right now. Technically decent but Drogba just muscled Tracy Chapman off the ball like she wasn't there.
