Wolves Europa league draw!

Post by Real ale 2 » Wed Jun 19, 2019 8:41 pm

Crusaders from Belfast or B36 Torshavn from the Faroe Islands ..2nd leg of this tie 18th July then Molyneux home first leg looking back on our draw against Aberdeen would say a much easier draw.

Gonna be pretty galling when Wolves get 3 really good draws and sail through to the group stage! We had just about as tough a draw as we could get at every stage, starting with Aberdeen.

Correct- don’t think we could have asked for a much tougher run in the competition.

Most fans on here were delighted we drew the 3 toughest ties possible

Some will even have you believe the chairman and manager wanted us out of the competition at the earliest opportunity...

Losing to Crusaders or a team from the Faroes would have been another cup embarrassment for us I'm afraid.

On the surface it looks like Wolves have got a couple of easy games. Good luck to them, I’m just glad we’re not involved.

I would seriously love to watch Burnley in the Faroe Islands !! If I were a Wolves fan I would be praying for a Faroese win.

One of the chairman openly said this in front of a few people apparently

We basically got the worse draw possible in every round. That said they leave better memories than getting it easy.

Glorified pre season friendlies playing either of those two but they surely won’t slip up.

Watch the "interview with Sam Vokes" video.
Think he puts to bed that myth.

I'm not saying we didnt rotate the squad and/or not play our strongest team every game, but the manager makes it crystal clear at every opportunity that the league is always the main priority. But for some to suggest he wanted us to ( or got advised to ) lose and get knocked out as early as possible is laughable.

Which manager or player wouldn't want the chance to walk out at the San Siro or Mestella and play the big European teams?

I really wanted us to get to the group stages last year, but I’m glad that we went out to a big European team in Olympiacos than a minnow club like Trelleborgs, Genclerbirligi or Larissa. All 3 tiny clubs our neighbours embarrassingly lost to in Europe.

We had a tough draw each round and, truth be told, we murdered Olympiacos at the Turf despite the away loss and still should have gone through.

We are unbeaten at the Turf in Europe since April 1967. :P

Aberdeen have to play in the 1st qualifying round and have been drawn against a team from Finland.
Their stadium capacity is just 2000 and so Aberdeen only have 200 tickets for the aeay leg.

I seriously wish we were. I can't understand anyone not wanting us to be in Europe, it's better than the day to day survival of the PL. It's different and exciting and I don't give a fig if it 'endangers our PL status', which I don't think it did or ever would, there were other factors involved in our bad start to last season and I don't believe any of it was to do with our involvement in Europe. I just hope we don't have to wait another 40-odd years for another try.

I love to be in it every season like the top six in our league
Its a privilege to grace your football against sides that have that pedigree
You can't beat a European night they are something' completely different from our domestic slog
Sampling the culture and taking an away European game is like nothing else its just that good

100% I wish we were in it.
Yes it's good we got decent teams in the qualifying rounds, but I wanted strange teams from small places in Europe and get to the group stage and have a night to remember against possibly one of the bigger clubs in Europe.

I pray we get that chance again.

Seeing as we made Aberdeen look like a half decent side, just shows you how poor we were playing at the time.

Maybe so but another 3 away trips would've been brilliant!

Reading about the draw this week takes me back to the excitement of this time last season.

Unfortunately the whole Europa League experience was a complete let down for me.

Speak for yourself, owing to other commitments could only make Olympiacos away and as took Mrs and both boys was still paying it off at the end of January
