If you could live one day of your life again...

Post by LoveCurryPies » Tue Jun 18, 2019 10:12 pm

Is there one day of your life that was so wonderful you would love to relive it again?

Or, is there a day you would like to revisit and change what you did?

Wedding day by a street. Birth of kids next but without the wedding day not happening.

I hear it's possible to have kids without getting married.

I think I would relive a day I spent skiing in Banff with my kids 18 months ago .They were 21 and 24 at the time so difficult to get them both together, particularly as my daughter was out in Calgary for a year. My lad and I went to visit her and that day under clear blue skies in the Rockies, followed by a good night out in Banff, was just perfection.

after a particularly bad time in my life, I had a chat and brew with my mum, then a great natter with my dad over a pint later in the evening.
Got my perspective all back where it should have been.
Both passed away now, but that day is one I could happily repeat.

I would relive the day I said goodbye to my father at the airport as I went on holiday to Majorca with my mates over 30 years ago.
I never saw him again as he died suddenly whilst I was away.
If I could relive that day I would miss the plane.

If there is one thing I could change it would be the day I went to see my mum who hadn’t been well. She was in bed but as I was leaving the house she had come to the window. She knocked and waved to me. I’d no idea she was saying goodbye, I didn’t realise how poorly she was and I was never able to talk to her again.

If I’d known I would have stayed with her.

TBH the Orient game. Never been through such lows and highs in a day. After that the usual wedding and births. The last two more important first unique.

I’m touched by the honesty in several answers.

To be honest, I would be torn between several events.

Watching the birth of my daughter (by Caesarean section) was the most incredible experience....sadly I hadn’t been there to see my son born.

I wasn’t there when my father died. I’d been with him all day....heard the consultants tell him he was ok (after his operation). But sepsis set in and by midnight he was dead.

Thankfully I was there when mum died and in the final seconds managed to say “Its time to go meet Dad again!”

But I also lost the love of a woman that I truly adored. She brought contentment...just being at her side was enough, she made me complete.

Similar to Tony. I called round to my 89 year old mum's for lunch on a Saturday. As usual after a lovely meal, I was anxious for no good reason to get on with the day. Before going mum stood at the kitchen door smiled and said can I tempt you with some apple pie, I said no thank you, she tried again, we've got some ice cream, I said no, and I left. July 24th 1999. Last time I saw her. Remember the sickening feeling driving back from work in London on the Tuesday, the 27th. RIP mum. Sorry.

More similar than you think - my mum passed away in May 2004, but her birthday was 24th July.

Probably 3 days between 13/16 June 2016.

Jumped on the train alone from Manhattan to Downtown Los Angeles.

Bit of reading, listening to Dylan, having a beer or 2 with some old Ranch guys and watching amazing scenery. Perfect.

I have two.

1. My dad died in a plane crash when I was seven. I often wondered how I would have turned out if he'd lived.

2. I quit college half way through my A levels. Again I wonder what would have happened if I'd persevered. I think I could have passed them and gone to university but, as I'm a bit of a plodder when it comes to studying, I really don't think I could have got a degree.

I'd love to be able to take my kids to Wigan Casino, no amount of explaining can paint the real thing. So going back on my own would be high up there.
The kids being born is obvious, as being told I was going to be a Grandad.
Top of the list would be to stand on the corner of the Beehole with my Dad.

The list of things I would like to undo is way too long to narrow down to one thing. Lets say from being 14 to 21........

I'm not sure I would want to change anything in the past. For example my choice of wife would be different, but my wonderful children wouldn't exist without that choice. Of course I may have gone on to have "other" wonderful children in another timeline, but I may not have.

In terms of reliving days past because they were special and wanting to have the feelings I experienced at the time I cannot narrow it down to one single event, but I am going to say that most of my teen years, whilst at the time felt awkward and difficult - there were moments in those years that I'd love to revisit. First kiss (and other firsts related to relationships...); getting drunk with mates in the woods; larking around on bikes; roller skating on a Saturday night; swimming at the nationals. The list I have seems endless and my memories of these are diminishing with time.

I'd go back to 2002 and tell my mum to get her bloated tummy checked straight away. She was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2003.

Very similar lines to what Fretters said. I'd go back to 2001 and make sure the doctor at Parkside didn't ignore my mum's results, which consequently resulted in her death.

As a teenager in the Merchant Navy I was fortunate enough to visit NZ on several occasions. During one visit I was offered a job working in the port of Wellington. Money and prospects were excellent. I turned it down. I wouldn't mind having that day again :?

In no particular order...
Wedding Day - just so I could remember it all better
Wembley 2009 - a great day out
Winning "pie and chips" on the pitch at Turf Moor - a silly one, but still!
The last day I saw my paternal grandfather. I couldn't tell you the exact date he die, or when it was, but I'd just have let him know how loved he was and how much I appreciate to this day everything he did for me.

My Nieces wedding back in April '92, it was the last time I saw my mam alive, she died suddenly at just 57 three week later when I was living 100 mile away,
I would have given her the biggest hug and although she knew it, I would have told her just how much I loved her...
Still miss her and think of her everyday even after 27yrs.

What a touching and emotional thread.

I dread the day I live with one of these kind of regrets but I almost certainly will.

For each and every one of us there is a last time for each and every thing we do. And often we won't know it was our last chance until it's too late.

It is the saddest thing possible about being alive.

Change - the day I got married, I wouldn't do it, the aggravation that woman caused me....

Relive - I was about 5-6 years old, hadn't seen my dad for about a year I think, and he suddenly appeared at the local Beavers group that I was part of.
I randomly looked up and there he was, dressed in his army gear stood in the entrance to the hall.
Usual stuff of running over to see him etc.
That was also the day when we found out he was finally leaving the army and moving to be near me and my brother after 3 years of being apart from us.

He was the only parent we saw much of out of the two of them, so it was great to be told we'd get to see him more regularly instead of having to fly out to Germany to see him.

Dont have regrets.

But for the sake of the thread.

A happy one - Wembley 2009. Cant remember hardly anything about it at all.

A sad one. My very close mate rung me up one day in July 2008 and told me he needed to see me. He sounded completely pi55ed and I'd let my mrs down a few times to go and join him on the beer when we already had plans. I didnt go and meet him on this occasion. An hour later I found out he had committed suicide and I was last person he had called. Only solace I take from it is that he didnt give me enough time to meet him anyway - was just his way of saying goodbye and with hindsight it was a sad inevitability that would almost definitely have happened some later time.

Having read the thread I've re-evaluated the worth of going back in time to one day in the past. 4 instances, I'd go back to try and save my grandad from dying in 1989, same for my grandma in 2002 although I don't know if I could given the circumstances but there's two I definitely could've saved, one being my mate in 1999 who's dad died in a car crash and another instance back in 1994 or 5 and it involved a young lad in my year at high school who never came back after the summer holidays, he died down Stoneyholme running after a cricket ball in the road and was struck by a car. I didn't even know him but remember feeling very sad when we were told during assembly on our first day back and I've often thought of that poor lad and his family from time to time.

Lovely thread. I can't contribute a day because of my beliefs, we can't change anything no matter how much we would wish for it, regret is always felt with hindsight, how could it be any other way, so all we can ever do about the past is look back on it with fondness, learn from it and leave it where it is. To all of you who have felt the obvious sorrow of regret for things not done, or things done that shouldn't have been, all you can do is move forward and live safe in the knowledge that it wasn't your fault. I have blamed myself for things I didn't do and regretted things that I failed to do but in the end we can't go back and change anything, all we can do is make sure that we try to learn from mistakes and make sure we don't keep making them.
Some wonderful stories on here though, some sad, some happy, and it is kind of beautiful that we can all relate to many of the things posted. No matter what arguments we have on here, petty or otherwise, we are all human and we have all lived life and had our share of ups and downs, thanks for the stories chaps, threads like this make me remember that no matter what, we all laugh and we all suffer.

Too many to mention ranging from not getting chance to say goodbye and thanks to my Dad who collapsed and died playing League cricket on Towneley when I was a lad through to the births of my three fabulous girls.
I'll go for the most recent : a rail tour to the South West two weeks ago, pulled by the A4 "Union of South Africa". The first-class Pullman style tickets, dining included, were bought as a thank you present.
Great company, tremendous scenery all the way through to Kingswear/Dartmouth, great food, wine and beer and the sun came out.
A long day but absolutely brilliant.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Wouldn't change anything really. Good or bad. Only learn and grow from it. Good to try and think that way in the moment too... 'Its temporary!'

and try and live in the moment as much you can. Especially when its good!

Some ups, some downs, a few "bumps in the road" but nothing I'd want to go back to and try and change. Enough "good times" to think I've not "missed out." More than 40 years with my wife and 2 decades and more with our children - and now, grandchildren. And, then there's my wider family.

It's the next 30 years I'm looking forward to - whatever the future brings.

Thanks for all your stories. I can relate to several.

There's this one bird I'd love to bang again. It might be that day.

If I'm being practical though, I'd go back to a week when no one won the Euromillions when it was like £100m+ and get the right numbers on!

Wouldn't change anything really. Good or bad. Only learn and grow from it. Good to try and think that way in the moment too... 'Its temporary!'

and try and live in the moment as much you can. Especially when its good!
My belief is that exactly Cricket...all we ever have, or CAN ever have, is right now. The eternal now is all we can have. Yes we have our memories and our dreams/fears for the future but the past is gone, never to return, and the future is as yet unlived and undecided. We can't escape 'now' so we have to live in it and do our best in it. The past is for happy reverie and lessons learned, the future is there for us to try to make it better than the past, but now is all we have, we really need to make the most of what we have at this moment because, as you so rightly say, everything is temporary.

If I’d known I would have stayed with her.
With you there Tony
The day before my son took his life I would have flown out to Oz and tried to stop him.

A simple thing but many yrs ago I’d been badly wounded with blast injuries and hadn’t seen my daughter ( around 4/5) for a few months .We went to Healy Dell , one of those quiet mid week days , warm spring sunshine, her on my shoulders innocently chattering away as we strolled .I couldn’t hear properly and she was describing the different sounds for me ,neither of us with a care in the world , me her King ,she my Princess .
I don’t crave the circumstances that led to it but the simple euphoria of the memory has carried me through many of life’s turns and i’d love to re-live the moment .

I'd go back a few weeks to when Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 and put my house on it.
