England vs Australia
Surprised no-one's posted this thread yet so here goes.
News this morning is Archer and Vince will play,Archer after passing a late fitness test, hope he's able to complete his quota of overs.
Big game now for England,Bangladesh are waiting for any slip-up's,and with New Zealand and India following this one it would be great to confirm our sf place ASAP.
Plus it's always satisfying to stuff those cheating Aussies,Warner and Smith will get a warm reception from a packed Lords crowd i'm sure.
Teams
Two changes for Australia - Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Lyon come in, in place of Nathan Coulter-Nile and Adam Zampa.
England are unchanged from the loss against Sri Lanka, says Eoin Morgan.
England won toss and will bowl first up,good toss to win as well, should be better batting conditions this afternoon.

Going to be a tough game, can't make it home from work until about 1.30 so hoping we manage to get a few early wickets so I can watch their tail end and then England smashing it!

Aussies 50/0 off 12
Don't half need a wicket or two. Not bowling too well.

110/0 off 20, think we may have called this wrong.

Obviously the thinking was the ball would swing with the conditions.Bertiebeehead wrote:110/0 off 20, think we may have called this wrong.

A much needed wicket Warner gone.
Re: England vs Australia
Missed stumping from Buttler. Australia haven’t even cheated yet and they’re massively on top. Worrying for England.

Re: England vs Australia
Got to take these half chances,Vince let one slip earlier, hard catch but they have to stick against a side like Australia.
I've got to admit on current form the Aussies are looking strong,Australia-India final is a real possibility.
Looks like we'll be chasing 350+,couldn't achieve that against Pakistan,so i doubt we will against Starc and co.

Re: England vs Australia
Wish this game had been at Old Trafford rather than the great uninterested at Lords. Even Nasser is buying into it with so many people coming “for the occasion, not just the Cricket”. What a load of tosh. Members should be in the Long Room giving the cheats plenty before heading to the crease.
We should have had a few wickets early on with the rub of the ball, at least we’ve restricted their scoring with the normal shortened boundaries seen in this WC. Let’s hope we can use Starc’s pace against him this afternoon.

Re: England vs Australia
Good comeback from England in the last half hour, could help us restrict the target required.
The Aussie trio of Warner,Finch and Smith are world-class,the rest i'm not so sure about, same with their bowling Starc and Cummins great opening pair, but the back-up is limited.

England dragging themselves back into this but I can see them struggling to chase any kind of score.

Would have probably been a wash out though if it was in Manchester todayclaret wizard wrote:Wish this game had been at Old Trafford rather than the great uninterested at Lords. 250/6 now - 26 balls to go
Re: England vs Australia
Smith out. Might have time to nip down B&Q before they have a bowl.

He should not play again...ever!!!
Re: England vs Australia
What’s the point in James Vince?
That was always going to happen. The bloke looks like he’s out before he’s faced a ball. It just gets the opposition going.

Re: England vs Australia
It’s not ability that’s going to do for England, it’s mental weakness. We just can’t do it under pressure.

It doesn't matter which sport ---this is another World Cup that England are not going to win.

Re: England vs Australia
Could have done without losing two wickets so early
Re: England vs Australia
Root gone. Not looking good.
Re: England vs Australia
It's alright blasting these massive scores in meaningless ODI series, but when the pressure is on we've been found wanting massively. Maybe some of them aren't quite as good as they think they are?

Re: England vs Australia
Surely there has got to be somebody better than Vince to open,he's a walking wicket, yes it was a decent delivery but why is he playing such a loose shot to the 2nd delivery, brainless cricket from England again.
Root now gone cheaply 15-2.He was due a failure at some stage.
286 seems a long way away ATM.

Hales off his tits is a better choice than Vince

You’re under that kind of pressure and you decide to have a hook at something??? Crazy, just crazy.

Look at the way Kane Williamson batted on Saturday with his team in trouble at 8 for 2. I remember thinking at the time England in this position would be arrogant enough to think they could hit their way out of it and completely collapse.

Re: England vs Australia
Alex Hales is the only winner out of this WC,even the usually reliable Johnny Bairstow has 2 first ballers to his name.claretonthecoast1882 wrote:Hales off his tits is a better choice than Vince
Vince hasn't done anything for England in white ball cricket, that makes you think he should be opening, either Root should be at the top of the order,he effectively is anyway most games,or we could try Moeen as a trial, failing that look further afield and see who's impressing in the county game.
The captain gone now 26-3,good luck Ben Stokes, you're gonna need it.
Re: England vs Australia
What is more frustrating is the predictability and inevitability of it all. Every World Cup seems to have gone this way since 1992.
Re: England vs Australia
If Moeen opened then we could also play Plunkett.tiger76 wrote:Alex Hales is the only winner out of this WC,even the usually reliable Johnny Bairstow has 2 first ballers to his name.

Re: England vs Australia
The annoying thing about this group is they clearly have the talent, that's been proven by their recent record,if England had chased down a modest Sri Lankan total, this conversation might be different, but whatever the circumstances England continue to play cavalier cricket, sometimes you have to realise not every ball has to be hit to the fence,or even scored from, yes it's a 50 over game but you still have to defend the good balls, and respect the opposition if they are bowling well, which Australia are much as it pains me to say.Foulthrow wrote:What is more frustrating is the predictability and inevitability of it all. Bangladesh and Afghanistan showed how to play on a difficult pitch yesterday, and accumulation of ones and twos is just as useful as hammering boundaries,England have got carried away with their own press i think, and forgotten the basics of cricket.

Game over IMO.
Surprised the cheats didn't come in for too much stick, think with it being at Lords has helped them get off lighter than they should have.
