Crouch - Dyche comments regarding him signing
Crouch, reportedly, has a lucrative offer on the table in China as well, and Dyche said this morning: “I’ve spoken to him a couple of times, but it’s up to him to decide what he wants to do.
“He’s just had another child and he has a lot of media as well.
“I spoke to him last week, and told him to let me know his thoughts, but beyond this week, we would have to know his decision one way or another.
“We enjoyed having him with us, and he did well in the time he had. He’s kept himself fit, and he would be welcome back.”

Maybe he meant Crouch "did well" by changing the bulbs in the changing rooms without needing a ladder.

Re: Crouch - Dyche comments regarding him signing
If I were him I'd hang up the boots and go heavy on the media work, try and get regular presenting with BBC/Sky/BT. It's not like he needs anymore footballing exposure, he's already a household name. He made headlines when he came and will make headlines when he retires but he'll get none sat on our bench unless he comes on and scores a brace in 90th minute.
China while I'm sure would be a great last paycheck takes him out of the UK circles, out of sight out of mind.

Re: Crouch - Dyche comments regarding him signing
There are a surprising lot of people who don't like or trust Dyche.
For the benefit of those who don't know, the point of Crouch is to come on as a late sub when we're level or losing to give us an enormous target man who will cause mayhem in the penalty area. That's it. Anyone who thinks Dyche is trying to sign him to lead the line and play full games and to replace any other potential forward - have another think.

How can anyone think letting vokes go and replacing him with Crouch for season 19/20 would make sense. No wonder the term happy clapper is still relevant.dsr wrote:There are a surprising lot of people who don't like or trust Dyche.

Absolutely sums up our transfer windows of late, spent nearly £30,000,000 last season on 3 players to sit on the bench. Now we are waiting for a 38yr old has been to decide if he fancy's us or not - Amateur.

Be funny if he banged in 10 next season .SD only ever really gave him cameos. He’d be experienced back up nothing more .
Re: Crouch - Dyche comments regarding him signing
I don't think anyone thinks we're signing Crouch to play full games. What a lot would disagree with is that when we need a late sub when we're level or losing the best choice is Crouch. His mayhem in the box boiled down to one penalty and generally we were replacing a target man with a target man. It's not like we're taking a nippy striker off and changing things about, we're taking off a 6'3" striker and replacing him with a 6'7" striker.dsr wrote:There are a surprising lot of people who don't like or trust Dyche.

And the trouble is that Dyche appears to view this as the solution every time. Against Leicester at home for instance we were up against two slow centre halfs who were good in the air and yet we still put Crouch on.

Re: Crouch - Dyche comments regarding him signing
If Crouch is actively under consideration for this season then heaven help us. The club clearly doesn't seem to have any ambition in improving our strike force. If you add this to the speculation regarding Jagielka then we will be seen as a laughing stock and relegation will be a major possibility especially if Tarks is sold. Things must be really desperate if we couldn't get Dawson for £5.5M yet are now speculating on Jagielka. What the hell is happening at our club ? Are we really that potless ?

You can't blame the club for the speculation about Jagielka. If people who ought to have more idea post rubbish about a man we were never going to sign, and other people choose to laugh, what's the club supposed to do? Unless we provide a full and detailed list of all our transfer targets and exact stage of negotiations with each, fools are going to laugh. Ignore them.LaLigaClaret wrote:If Crouch is actively under consideration for this season then heaven help us. The club clearly doesn't seem to have any ambition in improving our strike force. (And if missing out on Dawson is bad, surely missing out on Jagielka is worse?)

Re: Crouch - Dyche comments regarding him signing
If we don't bring anyone else in and anything should happen to Wood or Barnes then Crouch WOULD be leading the line as a regular 90 min starter ( based on last seasons pecking order ).dsr wrote:There are a surprising lot of people who don't like or trust Dyche.

If we do bring someone else in then arguably we don't need him.
Every player in the squad has to be capable of challenging for a 90 minute week in week out shirt. We can't afford 15 minute specialists who swallow up all of our substitutions to change our setup to one that suits the way they play. Especially, when they fail to deliver on the back of that.
I've said it before, Crouch lacks mobility and pace. Neither of those things have been the biggest part of his game so age hasn't seen his performance decline to the same extent as others. However, everyone else has moved on and the speed of play in the Premier league has consistently increased. He hasn't taken a huge step back, but changing requirements have diminished his overall effectiveness and rendered him obsolete at the highest level.
Relying on Crouch to "shake things up" makes us very predictable. As a "weapon" he is the equivalent of a blunt spear when the game has moved on to favour long bows. Not replacing him is very risky and bringing in another player and keeping him around is an expense that we don't need to carry.

Re: Crouch - Dyche comments regarding him signing
I had no problem in cashing in on Vokes and getting Crouch as a stopgap for a few months, but surely we should be spending the money we got for Sam and the payment we'll receive for Danny Ings transfer to the Saints on a forward that can really challenge Barnes and Wood,as good a combination as they are,if either was to be out long-term,we'll really struggle to compete.FCBurnley wrote:Still cant believe we swapped him and a few quid for Vokes. Vydra is out of favour for whatever reason,Wells is likely to move on this summer, and i presume Agyei isn't seen as a contender for a first team place yet,i doubt he'll even make our 25 man squad let alone the first 11.
I'm baffled we're waiting on Crouch to decide his future, before we do our summer business.

Unbelievably poor
Re: Crouch - Dyche comments regarding him signing
Vydra made more starts than Crouch, and Vydra would get the start ahead of Crouch if Barnes or Wood was injured.Long Time Lurker wrote:If we don't bring anyone else in and anything should happen to Wood or Barnes then Crouch WOULD be leading the line as a regular 90 min starter ( based on last seasons pecking order ).
Re: Crouch - Dyche comments regarding him signing
So Vydra can't get a look in despite being a full part of the squad, training regularly etc but Dyche is perfectly happy for his mate Crouchy to mess us around until he decides whether or not he can be bothered to sign for us. Our transfer windows just get better and better.

Careful not to criticise the club's transfer business or you may be accused of saying the board are doing a bad job. I don't think overall they do a bad job, but when it comes to transfer windows they take the **** time and time again.

Burnley need top class athletes , preferably young, preferably keen and hungry to fight like hell all season , even if he was an able sub for 10 mins, its nowhere near good enough for us.

Presuming that Wood and Barnes are the preferred pairing up front, that leaves us (potentially) with Wells, Vydra and Crouch as back-up. That's not terrible is it?

Except when we were 1-1 against 10 men Leicester absolutely desperate for points & then brought Crouchy on @ 70 (instead of Vydra) which played into Evans & Morgan's hands allowing them to sit back and head out all the mindless lumps up into the box... Which ultimately lead to their goal on the counter attack....dsr wrote:There are a surprising lot of people who don't like or trust Dyche.

If pumping aimless balls up to Wood and Barnes isn't working in a game then aiming them even higher for Crouch doesn't seem like a well thought out plan B to me

Also, we already know Barnes and Wood can score goals when they get the right service, I'd rather we spent the money on creative wingers/midfielders who are good enough to start most games (and less injury prone)
