Wimbledon

Post by WestMidsClaret » Mon Jul 01, 2019 12:18 pm

Not the football team before we have countless arguments again

The tennis has started.
Heather Watson 1 set up and is a break up in the 2nd. Is Murray in? Surprised Ken hasn't started a thread on it. :D

I'm out of the loop on the men's side. Any chance of a bloke making a deep run?

I'm out of the loop with anything tennis full stop as it's not my bag at all. I just attempt to get into it for these two weeks. Assuming Andy Murray is in, that's as much as I know for the men's.

My wife's a tennis club member so we had top seats today to watch Tsisipas the Greek 7th seed get knocked out in a battle full of southern European emotional ranting and raving. Brilliant stuff.

6th seed out too. Looks like Fed, Nad or Djok again.

Some guy's scratched his finger and everything's stopped for serious medical attention apparently. That injury is truly shocking tbh!!! I've never seen anything like it, even playing Sunday League footy up Towneley!!!!

Well! that was an eventful day one in the ladies singles,Osaka and Venus dumped out,the latter by a 15 year-old qualifier.

Konta has a genuine shot this Wimbledon, but so have a dozen others,i've neither known a more open contest in the woman's draw.

For the gents it's hard to see past one of the big 3,Marin Cilic is the biggest danger on a grass court.

The organisers will have a headache scheduling Murray's doubles matches, his partnership with Serena will attract more interest than many of the singles matches, you can hardly dump them on an outside court surely.

Watson out again.

Edmund going well though he's taken the 1st set against Verdasco, would be a big win if he can pull that off.

Evans and Dart through to round 3,Jay Clarke up next can't say i've heard of him before, nice easy match against a chap by the name of Federer.

The British record is improving at Wimbledon, blimey it wasn't so long ago they all tumbled in the 1st round, now at least some are advancing a few rounds.

Shame about Kyle Edmund yesterday until the injury he was heading for victory.

Definitely entertaining. Kyrgios is a strange character. No respect for one of the best players of all time. It’ll be nice to see an annoying Aussie put back in his box. Clearly has no respect for the game either....

Kyrgios is definitely a screw loose and a complete waste of talent in his lack of training etc...but Nadal is notoriously slow and he gets away with murder with how long he takes between points. It’s bad enough when he bounces the ball 376 times on each serve but for him to be saying he is not ready on the opponents serve is ridiculous...kyrgios should be allowed to just serve and it’s tough if he’s not ready.
But Kyrgios’ antics are pathetic - and it’s no wonder with the way he acts and talks to the umpires that they decide to favour the opponent.

Would be not surprised if this ends up in a fight !

They were both born there but are from 'immigrant' family backgrounds. Having live out there for a number of years I can tell you there are a lot of them who have a massive chip on their shoulder and think the world owes them....

I''d never have guessed  Nadal through in 4 anyway.

Serena had a scare earlier she had to come from a set down to beat a qualifier.

And the defending Ladies Champ is out, bowing out to a 'lucky loser',the woman's game is impossible to predict these days, but Konta must fancy her chances here, grass is her best surface and she has home town advantage.

Andy Murray and partner have turned their match around after losing the opening set they're now a break up in the 3rd,1 set all.

Both Murray brothers are 2-1 up. So they're both one set away from being one match away from the only match we need to make this Wimbledon great.

For such an early stage of the competition, the Murray doubles match and Nadal’s display, were first-class.

Jamie Murray clearly didn't read the script,of course the Murray brothers could still meet in the mixed doubles.
