Haven't thought about him for years, but did so yesterday whilst weeding. I was trying to work out when he died. Freaky.

RIP, he was some character.

One of 4 celebrities who were in the posh London restaurant The Ivy when I went there a few years back. The others were Marc Almond, Gail Platt off Coronation Street and Greg Ruzedski.
Of limited interest I realise but there you go. McCririck was with his wife ..the lady he charmingly called "The Booby".

Had the pleasure of meeting John McCririck at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to Earth and VERY funny.

Shared a lift with him at Cheltenham on Gold Cup Day in 1997.

I'm 100% sure he would never have remembered it.

McCarrick referred to his wife Jenny as "The Booby", and was accused of frequent misogyny.

Just came across as a loud mouth bighead on TV at the time.

Last October he said:
"Life is empty. I don't expect to be alive this time next year. It's a question of slipping away."

RIP.

He cultivated a character that was appropriate at the time and was the reason he became successful.
Unfortunately he didn't change tack with the times and became an unsavoury character at the end.

Whatever one's opinion he was certainly a character.

He was an excellent journalist and an often outspoken voice on corruption in the sport . A true old school character and true racing man. The luvvies took a dislike to him as shock horror he had a nickname for his mrs...

Was managing a William Hill shop and the official opening was conducted by JMc and ‘the greatest jockey’. Had lunch in the pub next door with them both and they were both very personable. They had 3 openings that week. Ours and two in Scotland.

Classic was when they did a sort of "wife swap" thing for TV and Edwina Currie went to look after him. He referred to her as "Woman" all the time and spent most of the programme in is office -- which was actually his bed. Even Currie was non-plussed by his slobbish behaviour. :D

Must have richly fulfilled somebody's day, slagging off somebody recently deceased, that they've probably never met. Congratulations to them.

Personally find it distasteful.

Only have to look at the tributes today from people within the industry to see how highly respected he was

Exactly.

Love him or hate him, he made a living out of being himself

You have to admire and envy anyone who does that

Someone dies and some actually types out the words 'obnoxious' and 'bully'

The one thing we are taught from a young age is to respect in death

Thought he’d died a couple of years ago tbh. Not really someone I took to only seeing him on the celebrity circuit, as I not a horses man.

RIP and thoughts to his family.

Wifey and friends were at York races and asked him for a pic. He went in line with them and squeezed the pap on those either side. Great lad or perv?
