Jack Reacher

Post by Bosscat » Sat Jul 06, 2019 9:25 pm

I like the films (2nd one currently on channel 4) and think Tom Cruise plays the role well...

I had no preconceptions as I havent read the books...

Tom Cruise though aint exactly 6'5" as my Brother pointed out :lol but he does concede that T C plays him very well (height consideration excepted)

I read ''61 Hours''. It was dreadful. Wooden characters.

TC generally makes a good picture. Vanilla sky being the exception to the rule.

Read a few Reacher books, found them quite good, with the exception of those written in the first person.

Every role like this that Tom Cruise plays is always similar to Mission impossible.

I read "One Shot" (before the film was made) and although I enjoyed it I didn't think there was anything that remarkable about it tbh.

Tom Cruise has a tooth dead centre. Not right that.

Enjoyed all the books, no real interest in the films.

Read all the books, most are difficult to put down, the latest ones slightly less so but still decent!

I was extremely sceptical but pleasantly surprised how effective Cruise was in these films.

The secret is in the Screenplay for these book to film projects. Think both films were done pretty well. I mean it’s not Sartre but good entertainment.

I like TC’s sci fi films, Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow especially.

Read a handful of the books before becoming bored by the identical format. Watched the first film as I was invited to an event showing it. About 3 minutes in Tom Cruise had beat up about 8 roughnecks in a single encounter. The last remaining thug asks in astonishment ‘who are you?’ to which Tom replies ‘I’m the guy you didn’t count on!’. Pretty awful stuff.

If you'd just battered 8 blokes and the 9th bloke asks who you are, what would you say? (not 'i'm the guy you didn't count on' obviously, because that's pretty ****).

I reckon I'd say. 'Duncan.' Partly because it's my name (it's not really, but it is on here) and also I'd likely be as incredulous as he is and not think of anything wittier quickly enough. But I'm up for some Arnie style one liners.

Put the 3rd pint down. Clearly never had a fight, never drank more than 3 pints, never done anything without his mummy.

I've read every one of the Lee Child 'Jack Reacher' books and a good number of them twice. I think there are about 26 in the series so far and Lee Child usually brings a new one out every year. In the front of each book it gives Jack Reachers CV.
Name: Jack Reacher (no middle name)
Height: 6 foot 5 inches
Weight: 220-250 lbs.
I couldn't believe it when Tom Cruise was choose to take the part of J.R. in the films.
Last year I visited Madam Tussards in London. I'm 5 inches smaller than Reacher and I had my picture taken stood next to a wax work model of Tom Cruise (I know it's sad) and the guy is tiny.

Trouble is with authors like Lee Child and James Patterson they just tend to re-hash the same types of stories over and over again.

The same goes for Tom Clancy.

Enjoy some books at first but it does get formulaic quicky. The one where he comes to London is cringy.

He's now an analogue hero in a digital age, so when most problems could be solved by calling someone on a mobile or Googling something he has to track down one of his army budies just to ask them a question.

The first film was excellent, the second a generic mess.

The only reason that TC played JR was because he bought the film rights and cast himself....even Lee Child wasn't happy but what can you do....

At least TC can act. They used clever camera angles to size him up.
How many 6’5” decent actors are out there?
As above 1st decent, 2nd awful.

When the movie first came out I thought Jim Caviezel would have been a good choice (at 6’1” he’s still shorter then Reecher though)

He can’t have been that unhappy, he appeared in a cameo role in both films.

I worked on Mission Impossible Ghost patrol, I'm 5'9" TC looked to be same height as me, also he didn't have the huge ego that a lot of actors have, he does majority of his own stunts too. It was a fun film to work on.
