Defour injured again?

Post by DustyBawls » Sun Jul 07, 2019 7:22 pm

I've heard that Defour is injured again and wondered if anybody else had heard anything regarding this?

We can't take him into consideration for our central midfield. He's a bonus and that's all he is.

If he is injured again which lets be honest wouldn’t be a great surprise, we have to target a central midfielder as a first priority

"we have to target a central midfielder as a first priority"

Is this a re-run of the last few transfer windows?

I am afraid its until the club say he is fully fit, then it must be assumed that he is not. Sorry but that is the reality.

Whether he is or isn’t a central midfielder should be our biggest priority this summer, before a striker, left back or anything.

We need to replace Cork.

Like I've said, Defour is a bonus. So totally with the Jedi on this. He plays? A wonderful bonus. But will never be a player we can consider as a full-time midfield placement. Aint going to happen.

Couldn't disagree more. We urgently need to replace Hendrick, or get someone who can play the positions he is meant to play. Jack Cork had an outstanding season previous too the last one, let's hope he can replicate that.

We really don't. Hendrick is being placed there as an extra defender, when needed. He's been our best player on several occasions this past season especially when away to the top teams.

He's been the scapegoat and I've even seen people on Twitter lambaste him after the starting 11 is announced, directly after having a man of the match performance. Clearly they don't watch the games. He works his balls off and is shot down unfairly.

He was great that season, but I think the formation suited him and he was playing at his absolute maximum.

I think in the 4-4-2, which we have returned to, he looked a shadow last season. Cork has been a great player for us and I don’t like to write players off but he looked like he had lost a lot physically last season, to me.

Don’t worry. Sean will announce whilst topping up his tan in Portugal next week that Defour has just got a bit of niggle. So he will only be missing until March 2020........

Joe Allen would have been a quality signing a couple of seasons ago, don't know if he's still up to it though. Isn't he about 34/35?

Cork improved as the team did post-Xmas. His lack of physicality has always been there but as a get it and give it midfielder he’s fine. Wish he would make more runs into the box, like he used to, but he could be under instructions.

That could be easily rewritten as - I don't like Hendrick for no apparent reason and that won't change however I like Jack Cork and prepared to make allowances when he plays badly.

How can Hendrick need replacing when he’s already a squad player? Cork was probably the worst of our regular starters last year, and doesn’t look like he’s going to improve any time soon. He’s also virtually unchallenged in the role that he plays.

We need a defensive midfielder, can’t be starting Cork without at least competition next year.

Could be, but he doesn't have that extra burst of pace that the game seems to need these days, that would get him into the box or fractionally quicker to the tackle to get the bounce of the ball that great players seem to get.

Would be surprised if Joe Allen doesn’t get linked at some point . Another Stoke player worth looking at would be Etebo the Nigerian international I’ve said this quite a few times now, although we should be looking outside of Stoke if possible ;)

I scanned all the videos of the lads in Portugal, every group of them running or kicking the ball about, and Defour is missing.
I'd be gobsmacked if he isn't injured, but as usual the club don't like talking about injuries.
It just emphasises the need for a really good reliable centre midfielder. If he still isn't fit after all the time he has had out, I can't see him coming back now. :(
