Wouldnt the premiership be more exciting if top 6 buggered off ?
Considering last 2 seasons ourselves and Wolves finished 7th the league would ok be less glamourous but would be a bit better quality championship !!!!! where judging on the statement above literally any club could win the premiership trophy.

Been saying this for ages. Can't wait for the inevitable European League. Not sure we'd lose all 6 but at least the ones left behind would have to be more realistic with wages etc because of the loss in income that would surely follow. We might also see the back of the billionaire backers as well, as all of a sudden the PL wouldn't look so glamourous an investment.
Just out of interest: does anyone else think that UEFA should be fined under trades descriptions? The Champions League is the most inappropriately named competition ever (along with possibly America's 'World Series' in baseball) in that it is A) not a league and B) most of it's competitors are NOT champions of anything. In it's first stage it is a prelimenary knock out competition - in it's second stage it is a series of 'groups' - in it's final stage it is again a knock out competition - at no point is it a league. About 70% plus are also rans - not champions. Just a thought.

That's a bit of an unfair crticism Boss, however with a username like s6t9a2f3f he does sound a bit like a wi-fi passcode.

When will people actually realise that it's The Premier League - not the Premiership and very definitely not the EPL

Re: Wouldnt the premiership be more exciting if top 6 buggered off ?
The top 6 would just be replaced by a new lot with all the money.
Wolves, Everton, Leicester and some others
Might be exciting for a small number of years but normal service would be resumed and we'd be back to where we are now.
There isn't really much point in wanting the usual top 6 to leave if there aren't strict FFP rules in place that are actually enforceable etc.

Re: Wouldnt the premiership be more exciting if top 6 buggered off ?
No. Because then the Premier League would be the second best division, like the Championship is. And despite being an exciting division I don’t see many people wanting us to return there any time soon.
Playing some of the biggest clubs in world football is one of the main draws of being in the Premier League. Why would you not want to see us turn out against the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool?

It could be but the money would reduce to the Championship level so no point really.
Re: Wouldnt the premiership be more exciting if top 6 buggered off ?
Yeah, I’d get rid of Australia and England in the cricket world cup so Iceland and Senegal can compete and make it more exciting.

Except of course there wouldn't be the TV money - well at least only a fraction of what there is now.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:The top 6 would just be replaced by a new lot with all the money.
.
Not convinced about the "idea", but I do think it would make it a much more level playing field and the gulf between top division and current Championship clubs would be less with the absence of parachute payments etc.

not sure fans of top six are keen on superleague, but even if it happened, only need a few asian or arabic mega rich businessmen to set their sights on a lesser team, and overnight they become the giant club in this division.

Probably true. But if all the money was in the "Superleague" would the other teams be so attractive to mega-rich foreign businessmen?Wile E Coyote wrote:not sure fans of top six are keen on superleague, but even if it happened, only need a few asian or arabic mega rich businessmen to set their sights on a lesser team, and overnight they become the giant club in this division.

I genuinely think the gap won't be as big next season. City and Liverpool will be miles ahead of the rest again, but I don't think the likes of Leicester and Everton are far off United, Arsenal and Chelsea. In fact I'm going to have a tenner on Leicester to finish in the top 4, got a great young side there and I think Rodgers will be the perfect manager for them.

Roy gone unlucky cant review 85 runs brilliant innings
Re: Wouldnt the premiership be more exciting if top 6 buggered off ?
Without the current tv money how the heck could we compete with the likes of leeds, forest ,derby etc never mind most of the other 14. It would be like the 80s and 90s again where the big city clubs had a huge advantage over the rest of us. It's the sky money that has enabled us to hold our own in the top division and that would vanish once the top 6 were playing elsewhere. The current situation is brilliant for us and although City are well ahead i'd back us to give the other so called top 5 a real run for their money next season.

Re: Wouldnt the premiership be more exciting if top 6 buggered off ?
The money is in top football only because of television. Television will want only the best. Therefore if the best six go off and play somewhere else the rest of the fourteen would get nowhere near the money they do now.
It is a fact that we get all our money because of the top six. I can't see how we can get away from that.
Of course money doesn't equal exciting football, but you can see that in the park or non league.

Re: Wouldnt the premiership be more exciting if top 6 buggered off ?
The standard of the league would drop. Not just because it would become a less saleable package, against a European Super League, but because those in the Super League would hoover up all the talent.
If it does happen, it’s down to greed and therefore probably likely! It’d spoil football even more than giving the bigger clubs access to their own TV rights.

Re: Wouldnt the premiership be more exciting if top 6 buggered off ?
Well there are two aspects. It would be good knowing that we could have a chance of winning every match. On the other hand it would deny us the odd victory to savour as in Liverpool not long agao and Spurs last year. What it would also do is lower transfer fees because its the crazy money of the top clubs that has lifted up fees to ridiculous levels for average players. Harry Maguire worth 70 Million?

It wouldn't lower the fees, because the clubs in a superleague would still need to keep hoovering up all the best players to remain competitive, they'd also have a new and improved TV deal for that league so they would have more to spend etc.Stayingup wrote:Well there are two aspects. It would be great to see them all bu##er off for two years extolling their virtues and then ask, through gritted teeth, if they can return, as the novelty of finishing second or third bottom in a super League is crap.

Be careful what you wish for; big 6 leave for a European super league and most of the money goes with them.
Re: Wouldnt the premiership be more exciting if top 6 buggered off ?
Yes but hoovering up from where? Not necessarily England. I think the cost for English players, now over valued (Harry Maguire) would come down.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:It wouldn't lower the fees, because the clubs in a superleague would still need to keep hoovering up all the best players to remain competitive, they'd also have a new and improved TV deal for that league so they would have more to spend etc.

This thread would be slightly more exciting if you got the name of the league right.

They'd hoover them up from the same old places they've always done it.Stayingup wrote:Yes but hoovering up from where? Not necessarily England. I think the cost for English players, now over valued (Harry Maguire) would come down.
They'll also carry on stockpiling young players in their academies for as long as they can, although I think the rules are being changed on that one.
