An era is drawing to a close...and the decent chippy is becoming a rarity...so sad..and the hordes of gormless slobs in grey jogging bottoms and the fat tattooed single mums in unwashed leggings traipse endlessley into mcdonalds to guzzle something thats as near to salted human turd as you can get...memories of my matchday fish and chips with a chicken and mushroom pie chaser are fading fast ...

I get the sentiment behind this but some Fish and Chips aren’t cooked in the most healthy oil ( Norman’s Chippy ?) A McDonalds once in a while won’t kill you it’s when you are eating there a few times a week there could be a problem. I really wish people wouldn’t put down single Mums though as they have it hard.fatboy47 wrote:An era is drawing to a close...and the decent chippy is becoming a rarity...so sad..and the hordes of gormless slobs in grey jogging bottoms and the fat tattooed single mums in unwashed leggings traipse endlessley into mcdonalds to guzzle something thats as near to salted human turd as you can get...memories of my matchday fish and chips with a chicken and mushroom pie chaser are fading fast ...

Most English chippys shut the door at 6.30. Far too early.

It's only "grease soaked stodge" when they don't use fresh oil and when the fish is off, most of us have had that in a strange town before I would wager but certainly not true in a well run joint.claret2018 wrote:Chippy food is absolutely disgusting. I’ve got nothing against people having a match-day chippy, but surely the only other day where it is acceptable to partake is a Friday? Who has fish and chips on a Monday? I’ll answer that - people with questionable morals.

Re: Parkview Chippy
Every scottish chippy will do a white pudding, black pudding or haggis pudding deep fried with batter. I've had a deep fried Pizza once in Ullapool and seen many a deep fried Scotch Pie. The famous Deep Fried Mars Bar started in a chippy just outside Hampden; it also did deep fried pizza but I'd learned by then and stuck to the Haggis Supper.
My one and only visit to Hampden was just after Revie left, Joe Mercer was caretaker manager and England lost 2-1. I watched from within a group of Hibs fans.
The Haggis Supper dulled the disaapointment somewhat afterwards.

Re: Parkview Chippy
Talking of chippies, seeing the work going on at Norman’s, it’s going to be a few months before that shop reopens. It’s just a shell of a building, the whole of the insides been ripped out, including walls and floors, with the rear shop wall having to be pulled down.

I was told the reason chippys are usually closed on Mondays is because the fishermen didn’t usually go out for their catch over the weekend so any fish used would be at least 2 days old

Re: Parkview Chippy
My memories of the Park View chippy as a kid was it being called Wildmans and the chips always being overdone.
It was also outside there that we had to collect our water from the standpipe during the drought in 1959.

There are some right miserable 'morons' on here. Nowt wrong with a chippy tea, nowt wrong with a McDonald's either. As said, it's moderation and personally I make sure I get a good breakfast in the morning and much prefer to have a few decent pre match pints. If the Mrs gets hungry she gets chips.

Re: Parkview Chippy
The good old curry takeaway never gets the same 'condemnation' on here as fish & chips and McDonald's. I love a good curry. I also love decent fish & chips - McDonald's is usually a needs-must meal for me.
BTW: What's the best place for fish and chips in the Burnley area? We used to nip down the road to Tod. Unfortunately, Grandma Pollards at Walsden is no more.
