It wasn’t a surface to air missile either apparently which begs the question how were they planning on using it.Imploding Turtle wrote:Did you see what the police found in Italy when they raided some far-right group's ammo horde? A ******* missile.

Re: 2 men arrested for terrorism in Burnley
I imagine it's possible to modify an AAM for use from the ground. But more importantly it shows that at least one far-right has access to this kind of weaponry (and that there's at least one group willing and able to supply it), and it was apparently a surprise to the people who found it. So there's no reason to believe that other groups don't have access to this stuff. And if they have access to AAM then there's no reason to believe they don't have access to SAMs.Bordeauxclaret wrote:It wasn’t a surface to air missile either apparently which begs the question how were they planning on using it.
And at the risk of heading down a crazy rabbit hole, if these are provided by people who aren't really interested in the ideology behind the far right extremists, and are only interested in causing chaos in western countries, then there's no reason to think that they are not providing access to other terrorists.
It's a pretty big development.

I'm less convinced that it would be easy to modify without significant technical expertise.Imploding Turtle wrote:I imagine it's possible to modify an AAM for use from the ground. To be honest I think it was more likely they were arms dealers than far right terrorists planning to use the stuff. Although the fact they had it makes it more likely that it would end up with other far right groups who would be willing to use it.

Looks like a reload missile for the american HAWK Anti missile system which was superseded by the patriot missile system. So it is at least 25 years old and needs a caravan sized launcher to fire.

Re: 2 men arrested for terrorism in Burnley
Sounds like you've prejudiced them. Being arrested doesn't mean they're guilty of anything so how will naming them tell anyone who they're mixing with? And since they're under arrest then they're not mixing with them any more.theroyaldyche wrote:No rush. Jus name em

If the court decides that naming them prior to the conclusion of any possible trial will mean they will not receive a fair trial, would you rather they be named now anyway, or do you think it would be better to wait?

I didn't realise an inanimate object such as a missile could be considered right wing but yes I was finding the discussion on the missile much more interesting than another thread full of bickering about race and how hard done by Cliff Richard was.Lord Rothbury wrote:Italian right wingers more interesting than possible Muslim jihadists in Stoneyholme. What is there to talk about? We don't know anything other than they've been arrested on suspicion of something. What do you propose we discuss? Go on, make a suggestion and we'll discuss it.
