Songs that remind you of the Turf
Just heard this on the radio and it took me back to when I first started going on the Turf, thought it would make a cool thread to see what songs you relate to going on the Turf !

John Farnham; You’re The Voice.
Always seemed to be playing at half-time, back in the ‘80s, when Ray Lott was picking the tunes.

Stars by Simply Red seemed to be played numerous times before games in the early 90’s.
I think we must have only had two vinyls at the time.

Early 70s
Singing in the rain

Did we use to sing, bye bye blackburn to “bye bye blackbird” or did I dream it?

Chumbawumba (sp)
Were they from Burnley/supported us or something similar?
Or was that just made up by someone because we played it?

Re: Songs that remind you of the Turf
Simply the best- Tina Turner- because we used to run out to it in the mid 90s
Dreams- Fleetwood mac- because it seemed like it was played before every match in the mid 90s
Best of you- foo fighters- old video shown on screen before match
tubthumping- Chumbawumba- we used to run out to it
Use somebody- kings of Leon- always takes me back to Wembley. Played just before teams went on the pitch
Some moby song can’t remember name- played before most matches in the mid 90s
In the early to mid 90s I think the MC at the turf just had a play list with the same songs because I hear certain songs and it takes me back to that era

Another vote for John Farnham and the Bee Gees (You win again).
Still makes me think of 86-87 season even now when I hear them. The only other one was Pet Shop Boys' Always on My Mind as we settled into 4th Division mediocrity, post Orient.

Most of Chumbawamba were from Burnley. Recall at the time (mid/late 1990s) Boff Whalley said the money he made from Tubthumper paid for his season ticket.
His autobiography 'Footnote' gives a real insight into growing up in Burnley in the 70s.

Re: Songs that remind you of the Turf
I know its not a song, neither can it be heard on the radio but does anyone remember when the loud voice used to warn you to keep "gangways and emergency exits clear". As a kid it was almost frightening and I don't even know why.
As for songs Closer than Close and Simply the best always remind me.

Also Tiffany - I think we’re alone now which thinking about our gates at the time may have been another clever choice.

Chris Waddle's choice, think the reasoning was that Marseille were unbeaten whilst walking out to it ..Pearcey wrote:I seem to remember us running out to Jump by Van Halen. Am I right?

Re: Songs that remind you of the Turf
sorry ClaretCliff don't know how to link to your post re Just Like Eddie...but we used to sing "whenever you're sad ,whenever you're blue, whenever the Clarets are playing. In league or cup, we'll try like ----, to keep the claret flag flying" followed by whoa oah oah oah oah oah to the tune.

Ecstasy of gold reminds me of the first promotion season ,use to play while the team was warming up in 2009/10 I think.
another thing that reminds me of turf is the safe style uk man use to walk around shouting random things at the crowd. Let's bring him back

Shirley Bassey's version of 'Something' by George Harrison.
Every home game in 1973-74 this song announced the arrival of the team down the tunnel. What more could you ask for?

1982 promotion season and I stood on the Bee Hole End. Ray Lott was spinning the discs and Zoom by Fat Larry's Band and Heartbreaker by Dionne Warwick were 2 staples of pre match and half time entertainment.

"Building with the Burnley" which was a Burnley Building Society advert played at half time in the 70s. We at the back of the Longside would dance to it. A mate has a copy and is the first record on after 12 at his annual New Year's party.
