in both cases I don't think it would make much difference and it would probably be irresponsible if there were no assurances that it would be the catalyst to turn around either club. Sometimes it is better to start again. I always wondered how many we would get on Townley on a Saturday afternoon.
Also what about clubs like Padiham FC and others who deserve a lift?

Greed does rule football, your to nice by far,we play in the greed league, and the top clubs won't be content till they are taking it all and minnows like Wolves and Everton are going bust.
,they don't want clubs like Burnley creaming them for 100 million pound a season.

Mind you, I've been expecting Tarkowski to leave for ages. If he stays, he'll be like a new signing.

So the bid has been upped from £8m to a club record in 1 day? If I was Steve Gibson I would tell Burnley to Fvck Off after the initial insult. Nothing on Sky News or any other news outlet that I can see so I have my doubts in this news.
Not sure why everyone is thinking that Burnley will be struggling with the likelihood of 1 or 2 of the promoted teams probably Sheffield Utd/Norwich going back down and with Newcastle having Steve Bruce in charge I would imagine they are a certainty to be in the bottom 3 as he is a shocking manager with a rubbish squad. Benitez was a good manager getting the best from a poor squad, Bruce is not a patch and will struggle.

Burnley 'reject Tarkowski bid'
Burnley have reportedly rejected a £20 million bid from Leicester for James Tarkowski, according to the Leicestershire Live.
The Foxes are keen on replacing departed defender Harry Maguire with his fellow England international.
The Clarets are said to have turned down the approach as they want double that fee - with Leicester now unsure whether to return with an improved bid.

Would take McCarthy for sure.
Palace have McArthur, Milivojevic, Meyer, Kouyate, Camarasa.
Seem over subscribed at best.

We value Tarkowski at £40M
Bournemouth value Ake at £75M
Guess Leicester will be chasing Tarka then and if we value him at £40M, a deal around £25M seems likely based on how we handled our valuation of Heaton

£40m would be a low starting point for negotiations.
Tarks would have to be wary if he moved to Leicester, given this news story.

A Bournemouth valuation of £75M for Ake says "he's not for sale" a Burnley valuation of £40M for Tarkowski says "let's start talking".
Perhaps Leicester are using the same calculator that Burnley are using that said Fry was only worth £8m?

In regards to Tarky the only issue I have is that "Burnley want £40m". I doubt they said that figure is not negotiable. If they didn't then it leaves the door open for a lesser amount. We should take the WBA approach, it's either "he's not for sale" or the figure is £xxxm.

I love the way Sky Sports portray the potential non-transfer of Tarks to Leicester as though he's thought about nothing else all summer. Maybe he has but I don't recall he or anyone else coming out in the media and indicating he was looking to leave us.
Cruel, heartless Burnley refusing to play the Sky Sports Transfer Window Merry-Go-Round Game as opposed to Leicester presumably refusing to stump-up an asking price at the current going rate for decent central defenders.

Just like Burnley, Leicester want to sell their best players on with a hefty premium attached but flinch at paying it when negotiating with other clubs for their prized assets.
Hence, the oft used quote "above OUR valuation".

Maguire 85million
Ake 75 Million
Webster 20 million, no prom experience, no international caps
It isn't difficult to work out a valuation for Tarkowski, I can't believe the board can't work it out just as easily. If the reports of the offer from Leicester is true, then it's nothing short of insulting. In the boards shoes I'd tell them not to bother coming back.

If £50m is the release clause then that's the minimum he should go for.

I would expect that double it would also include sell on clauses and international appearance clauses knowing what has happened with Maguire as well as the fees been reported by the likes of bournemouth for ake and burnley for tark. 21 years old with a long contract, local lad and no desire to leave just yet with him happy and wanting to play for his old youth coach. also nothing official from Middlesbrough about the fee they want just journalists who are making up numbers with one suggesting its £15m and another saying that its £16m. not a huge difference in valuation but still a difference so can be taken as just speculation and not an official club statement.

I'd never heard of a release clause, until it was mooted on this thread. There was nothing at the time he signed the new contract, and we've never put release clauses in any players in the past.
Don't get me wrong, I hope it's true, it's something that we should do, but I'd take it with a pinch of salt unless the club confirm it.
