kentonclaret wrote:Presumably a season long loan for Nakhi Wells means that should we be relegated then he can play for us in the Championship next season, which appears to be his level. He is not suddenly going to improve over the course of the next season to become a Premier League player. Meanwhile I assume Vydra is still waiting on the platform for his train to arrive.

BFC is like a station from which there are only departures.
His contacts up at the end of the season though. As someone else has pointed out why not take a small fee for him off Swansea and get him off the wage bill now? Him and Vydra are probably on about 50 grand a week between them. For a supposedly prudent club we don't half waste some money!

See if they fancy Vydra and vice versa since he has no intention of staying here.

The two spaniard full backs that cost between them 35 million and have the sum of about 5 starts in the league last season between them. Nathaniel Clyne being paid 100k plus a week last season to basically get ripped a new one by McNeil and then not be seen again all season.

Happy how we are. Lets put the faith in the coaches and the plan we have in place. Who knows we may be discussing Benson being worth 40 million plus next pre season. Because like the above Bournemouth players he has been signed for his potential. The cost is irrelevant. A price tag doesnt guarantee a player is going to make it

Journalist on Twitter saying Sheffield United also in for Brownhill. If we really wanted him, there's no excuse to be outdone by them lot.

Yes, obviously. But how good a midfielder would he need to be, to make the side better in spite of Lennon replacing McNeil on the wing?

The idea that we’re some sort of value-for-money kings is nothing short of a myth.

Leaving aside the argument about whether Lennon can still do a job, why would it be Lennon coming in?

We got to the Champions League places over the first 2/5ths of the 17/18 season with Brady on the left (winger who can get down the line and cross it, by the way), and JBG on the right.

We appear to be enquiring about anyone and everyone!

On the face of it, no more successful than previous windows, when a player, no one thought was required, drops in the door and sits in the background, for ever more.

When will we send our email?

Let's hope we retain our players. All will be well.

Absolutely, give BC both, as long as we get Brownhill.
Two wages off the books from players who aren't gonna figure.

[quote="ClaretTony"]Not disheartening at all. I just understand our club, the size of it and how difficult it is for us. The ones who have problems or who are disheartened are those who, in my view, are totally unrealistic.

Drinkwater potentially heading out on loan to Burnley

Mandeep Sanghera
BBC Sport
There’s been an initial enquiry from Burnley for Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater.

Understand Clarets boss Sean Dyche keen to add to his midfield before the transfer window shuts.

I think they have performed such duties given we are just about to go into a fourth successive season in the Premier League and a fifth in six seasons. Of course we will come up with the 'difficult market' mantra because anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that.

You want us to shop elsewhere, maybe players good enough to take us down a couple of divisions perhaps? There are a number of people within the club who are being paid to identify better players and doing so with some amazing success, otherwise we wouldn't be in this league.

Your only problems seem to be failing to understand our club and having no realistic ideas on how difficult it is for us in this league. Dyche often says our supporters understand, your comments suggest that's not the case.

The problem with your post are the words "potentially" and "initial enquiry" which seems to suggest that no firm offer has been made and that other clubs could also be interested in taking the player.

then only another couple of weeks until those same people stop coming on here as they realise we are actually doing alright again and don't look in danger of going down only to reappear in January to continue their tired old pantomime routine.

All good fun though and keeps the board busy and entertaining IMO.

Claret Tony

Where is your evidence for this transfer window up until now that "there are a number of people within the club who are being paid to identify players and doing so with some amazing success"?

Jay Rodriguez was identified during last summer's transfer window and was the subject of umpteen posts on this board but other than that not much else has happened (thus far).

Amazing success is stretching things just a tad don't you think?

This is why I posted previously we seem to go into negotiations with a begging bowl, saying 'please sir'

We aren't bargaining from a position of confidence and selling what BFC can offer. We've been in the PL for many years now, and even without outside investment we have pocketed a profit of £10's of millions every year. I miss the days like when we signed Andre Gray. Interested one day, announced the following morning.

The only problem with that mantra is that it's the complete opposite from what SD says and not for the first time. It's no point knocking the moaners when SD does it himself!

Last closed season you said that our squad was big enough and we had a decent transfer window... 24hrs after you said that, SD stated the complete opposite and moaned all that week that we were light and would of liked more incomings.

Also, this year he has said more than once that we need to think about pushing the financial boundaries.

What wierd Catch 22 logic is this? How can we know their price/wage etc if we haven't looked at them.
Surely we must first inquire of a player to find these things out.
And even if they somehow hear a player will cost X without making inquiries maybe, just maybe a club will take less, though an arcane process called 'negotiation'.

A couple of social media posts saying Wells has been spotted with someone from WBA in Birmingham and could be going there on loan. There's nothing concrete to give it any substance though, but sounds a believable sort of move.

Agree the loan deal then call him back the night before the season starts just to **** WBA off for dicking us about

To be fair Tony, there are loads of players in Europe we can afford that would make us better. It's either our scouting that let's us down or someone wants to keep a predominantly British squad. Not saying either way is right

Claret Tony - are you Mike Garlick in disguise? "They've had some amazing success", sorry but that is garbage. What has Mike Rigg done to justify his wage exactly? I wish I could 'work' so little for my earnings!

Danny Drinkwater

I don’t start topics often but I’m in France on holiday and having to read all sorts of nonsense before cutting to the chase on the 80+ page thread (much to wife and children’s chagrin).
It looks like we are talking to Chelsea about bringing in a 29 year old England international to strengthen our much maligned central midfield.
Please can only updates on Drinkwater be kept to this thread.
Personally, I think this would cap a strong window given the quality of the two signings we have brought in and the recovery of one or two from injury, especially if we keep Tarks.
