His contacts up at the end of the season though. As someone else has pointed out why not take a small fee for him off Swansea and get him off the wage bill now? Him and Vydra are probably on about 50 grand a week between them. For a supposedly prudent club we don't half waste some money!kentonclaret wrote:Presumably a season long loan for Nakhi Wells means that should we be relegated then he can play for us in the Championship next season, which appears to be his level. He is not suddenly going to improve over the course of the next season to become a Premier League player. Meanwhile I assume Vydra is still waiting on the platform for his train to arrive.

Cleveleys_claret wrote:I wouldnt be happy as a fan if we had spent 20 million plus on him when he doesnt create chances or score goals. Likewise 20 million plus on Solanke, a striker that cant score. The two spaniard full backs that cost between them 35 million and have the sum of about 5 starts in the league last season between them. Nathaniel Clyne being paid 100k plus a week last season to basically get ripped a new one by McNeil and then not be seen again all season.
Happy how we are. Lets put the faith in the coaches and the plan we have in place. Who knows we may be discussing Benson being worth 40 million plus next pre season. Because like the above Bournemouth players he has been signed for his potential. The cost is irrelevant. A price tag doesnt guarantee a player is going to make it

Journalist on Twitter saying Sheffield United also in for Brownhill. If we really wanted him, there's no excuse to be outdone by them lot.

Yes, obviously. But how good a midfielder would he need to be, to make the side better in spite of Lennon replacing McNeil on the wing?claretspice wrote:If he can be more effective in a different role, and it makes the team more effective overall?

Leaving aside the argument about whether Lennon can still do a job, why would it be Lennon coming in?dsr wrote:Yes, obviously. But how good a midfielder would he need to be, to make the side better in spite of Lennon replacing McNeil on the wing?
We got to the Champions League places over the first 2/5ths of the 17/18 season with Brady on the left (winger who can get down the line and cross it, by the way), and JBG on the right.

We appear to be enquiring about anyone and everyone!
On the face of it, no more successful than previous windows, when a player, no one thought was required, drops in the door and sits in the background, for ever more.
When will we send our email?
Let's hope we retain our players. All will be well.

They will know the budgets that the club have set for signings so we should not even bother looking at players it's said "we cannot afford"

Then why don't they shop elsewhere - other clubs seem to be able to do so
There are a number of people within the club who are being paid to identify better players and apparently achieving little success

The problem with your post are the words "potentially" and "initial enquiry" which seems to suggest that no firm offer has been made and that other clubs could also be interested in taking the player.

Where is your evidence for this transfer window up until now that "there are a number of people within the club who are being paid to identify players and doing so with some amazing success"?
Jay Rodriguez was identified during last summer's transfer window and was the subject of umpteen posts on this board but other than that not much else has happened (thus far).
Amazing success is stretching things just a tad don't you think?

We aren't bargaining from a position of confidence and selling what BFC can offer. We've been in the PL for many years now, and even without outside investment we have pocketed a profit of £10's of millions every year. I miss the days like when we signed Andre Gray. Interested one day, announced the following morning.

Last closed season you said that our squad was big enough and we had a decent transfer window... 24hrs after you said that, SD stated the complete opposite and moaned all that week that we were light and would of liked more incomings.
Also, this year he has said more than once that we need to think about pushing the financial boundaries.

Surely we must first inquire of a player to find these things out.
And even if they somehow hear a player will cost X without making inquiries maybe, just maybe a club will take less, though an arcane process called 'negotiation'.

Danny Drinkwater
I don’t start topics often but I’m in France on holiday and having to read all sorts of nonsense before cutting to the chase on the 80+ page thread (much to wife and children’s chagrin).
It looks like we are talking to Chelsea about bringing in a 29 year old England international to strengthen our much maligned central midfield.
Please can only updates on Drinkwater be kept to this thread.
Personally, I think this would cap a strong window given the quality of the two signings we have brought in and the recovery of one or two from injury, especially if we keep Tarks.
