Murger, one of the recruitment team at Stoke, left Burnley to take up their post. Just wish he was back with us, as he's highly respected at his job in football.

It looks like we are talking to Chelsea about bringing in a 29 year old England international to strengthen our much maligned central midfield.
Please can only updates on Drinkwater be kept to this thread.
Personally, I think this would cap a strong window given the quality of the two signings we have brought in and the recovery of one or two from injury, especially if we keep Tarks.

Whichever way you look at it we replaced an outgoing goalkeeper with an incoming one within a few days, which is evidence that we can replace players when required.

Pretty sure I didn't say that at all to the degree you are suggesting. It was a mere observation on our last 4 years of business and that done so far this window. Not sure I've said anything you can dispute tbh. We don't seem to sign players from abroad who haven't played in England (other than Defour) and we have a predominantly British squad. Therefore we are for the most part paying more for the players because of the market we shop in - my question was who makes those decisions reallyClaretTony wrote:Your view, to which you are entitled, but you suggest our recruitment team don't know what they are doing and that's crap. But we haven’t been doing that, we we’ve shown a preference to sign older pros as stop gaps. So now we’re left with a gap in the squad, unless one of the U23s can step in (which is quite rare).
Maybe the people in the recruitment team haven’t done such an amazing job as some seem to think.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
This getting into Europe is fast becoming the new Orient mantra. Our transfer windows have been the same as has been said for that past 4 windows. We all bleat on about how the club can't afford this amount and that amount, yet we go and throw away 11m on vydra. There must have been some serious cash sitting on our bench at times last season. It is seriously frustrating.

You say we can get better from Europe to improve the team. Given we performed better than everyone up to Man U in the 2nd part of last season, along with the full previous season you automatically assume that buying from Europe will take us above the biggest club in the world. They take bigger dumps than we can afford to spend and we are actually only a few points behind them in performance...
There is no evidence to suggest buying more from Europe will improve us. We took Defour and as great as he is (one of the best I have ever seen in a Claret shirt), it was a risk and has proved to be a risk. Most players from Europe will prefer more money from big city clubs. That is just a fact unfortunately.
For the size of club we are, we are absolutely smashing it at the moment.

Is it not simply down to finances. The Chairman and his staff have their own valuation of the player(s) and simply won't pay these over inflated prces, moreover, it's the wages that's required, especially when other interested parties intervene. It will be a niggle with the Manager and whilst I'm sure he's addressed the issue with the Chairman on numerous ocassions it must fustrate him. To be honest I can't see it changing unless we pick up some gems from foreign lands, presumably that's where Rigg will shine. This season will be a telling one though.
